What is everyone's NAT settings?

I was a "moderate" now I'm "Open"

Since then no problems (only one really...saved game wouldn't load) (this was on Sat).

My xbox's "Born on" date: 5/8/2006
(I originally had a launch unit, it died, got a replacement, which died also, so this is my 3rd box since launch 2005)
120GB MS HD made in Korea.

Saturday night i changed my Linksys WRT54G (i think) settings...I also have it flashed with DDWRT, so I just enabled the UPnP setting.

I've probably just jinxed myself I bet!!!

Altho, this probably won't help those with the "DVD" in the tray issues.

Well, I gave Bungie/Microsoft a week to sort it out.

No comments off either, and Im not sending my xbox in for 3 weeks to play a single game, and Im not buying a new xbox for one game.

Tried everything on this forum and got a replacement disc. Tomorrow, Im getting my money back and am pre ordering COD.

YOU HAD YOUR CHANCE HALO!!

no no no, the open/strict NAT issue was halo 3, this is the DRE issue of halo: reach

  • 09.21.2010 12:52 PM PDT

Bungie. Its been a week! In honor of the 7th(your favorite number) day since Reach has been out and we haven't been able to really play the game, could you give us something other than Microsoft telling us to send in the console FOR A SINGLE GAME, which may or may not be free at this point i dont even know. Please Bungie despite the people coming on -blam!- talking you and expecting an answer, let me just say many of us have been with Halo(and Bungie) from the beginning, and we cant play just because of a fixable problem with our consoles? Please Bungie, all we want is a patch. Thats it. Thats all we want, to be able to fully enjoy your swan song to Halo

  • 09.21.2010 12:56 PM PDT

Jaredhenry13, good luck.

And I should note that I hardly had any errors until the LAST mission, and now it works sometimes, and sometimes it doesn't work. Very inconsistent DREs, but enough to be very annoying when one is playing on Heroic or Legendary and almost all the way through.

Very, very annoying.

Everyone with a bad disk please try this...

Look at the bottom of your disk in a good light. Look for what looks like a birth mark on the outer edge. I bought mine from a local shop, didn't work, returned it, and the exchanged game had the same defect on the bottom. For those of you who have one that doesnt work, does your disk have this blemish on the bottom?

All the symptoms i have fit the disk read error FYI

This is a cheap mockup of the disk where the blemish would be. It isnt that obvious, you must look carefully under a good light

molon labe

This is starting to sound a lot like what happened when spore came out for the PC. Pirated copies worked while the real copies didn't (for a small number of people, of course). At the end of the day, the DRM was to blame.

Yeah mine has the same thing but it surrounds the center and goes out at a different width on each side. asymetricle. I asked the microsoft guy that I talk to (who actually seemed like a halo player himself) if he had ever seen that and he said no but that his reach came with his Halo xbox.

Yes i noticed the same thing on the first copy i had. When i showed it to the gamestop employee he said it was normal and the disk looks fine. he gave me a new copy anyway, it has the same 'birthmarks', with slighty different pattern, as the first one.then he suggested i lay my xbox flat instead of vertical.

i got home layed my xbox flat and still got the dre at the same area of the game.

i think the birthmark is normal, i looked at some of my other games and saw it on the borderlands disk.

Really? i have 10 games none have this big blemish on the bottom. Anyone else have the blemish and the DRE? Anyone with the blemish but no DRE?

I think we can be pretty sure that it isnt more or less a faulty disc issue. Just think of it; lets just say you bought the disc at Gamestop. What are the chances that out of possibly thousands of copies, the people that have gotten a faulty disc will get another faulty disk upon exchange while there are obviously times more players that have no problems with this. What i mean is, the disks themselves are fine. It might be a conflict between specific versions of consoles or readers and the Reach disks, but not faulty CDs.

Or you can think of it this way, which makes more sense...... People that are exchanging their disks to that same place are getting the DRE again... meaning they're exchanging a disk for one from the same batch that came in the same box from the same run of disks. If you exchange it at the same place chances are your getting one that was in the same shipment as your old one.

Subject: Disc Not Reading? Call 1-800-4-MY-XBOX for support (see page 35).

Hi All.

After finding my Reach disc wouldn't work, I found this forum and all the postings around the net. I started to do some experimenting to see if I could get my 2nd disc to work and I'd like to share my conclusions with you all.

First of all, I've narrowed it down to the hard drive - I believe it is the read/write speed or capability of the hardware. After testing with a refurb 20gb and an original 4gb, the most often I get the game working actually comes from having no hard drive attached. The refurb never works, and once I have gotten the 4gb to work. Also of note is that the manufacturers of the hard disks are different - the one from China will work, the one from Thailand will not.

I have circumvented using the hard drive by moving my profile to a memory unit and saving my Reach progress on there as well. This supports the hard drive hypothesis because the flash memory has an infinitely higher read/write speed.

After many attempts to narrow down the exact issue, as there seem to be alot of variables here, I have found some other information. For instance, the game will never spin up
correctly if I boot the xbox up with the game already in the drive. In fact, this occasionally results in a rrod.

There is one more thing I have found as well. In order to get the game to be recognized by my system, I have to boot it up while holding the sync button on the console. As many of you know, this is done to boot the console without loading system updates. While doing this, you will notice the xbox boots without any green rotating lights, and if you see no lights at
all, but eventually the dashboard loads onscreen, you have done it correctly. This leads me to believe that once you have updated your storage medium, there may be an incompatibility issue. When I load Reach, it asks me to update the memory card, but I have not done so so I can play through the campaign. Once I am done with the campaign I will attempt to update the memory unit so that I can play matchmaking, because without the update you are unable to go online.

I hope this helps you all, it might be a way to fix at least some of your problems. I can't guarantee this will help everyone, but I really wanted to play Reach and I sure as heck
don't have the money for a new xbox, so I was pretty methodical about trying to get it to work.

Good Luck Everyone!

Nah, its been stated plenty times; there are people that cannot launch Reach on one console, and another console reads the same disk PERFECTLY.

  • 09.21.2010 1:35 PM PDT

sounds like you have a different problem if your game wont even get recognized. The DRE referred to in this thread is for when it freezes or throws a DRE when loading maps or trying to play the campaign. Look back a few posts. do you have a blemish like i described?

and note Reading and launching reach are totally different from the main DRE which is caushed when loading maps. Just because it loads doesnt mean it plays which is where people could be testing and not going far enough

I thinking about boiling my disc. I'm desperate.

So just to be sure, what are the EXACT steps I need to follow if I'm going to do this? I don't want to screw up the disc to the point where I can't return it.

why would boiling my disc do anything if my game with disc read errors (the one before my trade in also) work on two of my friends xboxes. its a compatibility error.

and it is the DRE where it freezes on loading screens during cutscenes and after matchmaking matches

Only try boiling your disc if your Xbox 360 doesn't even recognize it as a game disc.

Don't expect it to work if you're getting DRE errors.

I'm with the dude who said i'm not willing to boil my game disc. This is an issue that MSFT and Bungie need to address. Super frustrated at this point 7 days out.

No, but some games that I have bought in the past do and they work fine. I don't think that blemishes are an issue.
