I've had this problem before also and it seem to be a problem with my Xbox.

Try removing the disc, turning the Xbox off, and then turning it back on.

The problem seems to be caused by turning the Xbox off with a dic inside -- no idea why it causes the problem, but that's how it's been for me.

It might also be simply poorly made discs, though. No doubt that Microsoft would do something like that, can't even burn a friggin' disc properly.

Also, the Xbox customer support is awful. They will tell you to do things that violate the ToS or lie to you just to get you to hang up the phone, they'll tell you to go to the Xbox forums where actual Xbox employees don't answer your questions, and if you do anything like ask them if they're being honest or actually following a standard policy, they'll just hang up.

I've had my xbox since 2005. now it is getting to the point where it doesn't read any disk. lol

  • 09.23.2010 8:52 PM PDT

I'm on my 2nd 360, first one experienced the red ring of death.

Anyway, I get a disc read error everytime I try to skip over a cut scene. Happens even though I've loaded the game onto my hard drive. If I don't try skipping the cust scenes, everything's fine.

well for everyone who is having the same problem as me i read somewhere on here of someone who put there disc in boiling water and there game started working well i thought this was a little to risky for me but what i did was take a blow dryer and heated up the disc with it i did it to the top side of the disc mainly but only a little bit to the bottom side then let it cooled cause i figured whats the worst that can happen my game not work lol well the three main places i got the DRE where the very first cut scene in story, the beginning of a multiplayer match at the loading screen and at the end of a match also at the loading screen but after doing this method of heating the cd and cooling but after just testing all three spots i have not gotten any DRE dont get your hopes up yet as i have only tried each one time and i will let ya know if i do eventually get another DRE if you do try to do this method try at your own risk
wish i could tell u what type of console i have but i dont know how to tell cause im a noob like that but its one of the white 360 and its definitely one of the earlier ones i have a 120GB HD attached game is not installed to HD just running it off the disc but i do have my profile on a flashdrive

I find it hilarious that Bungie didn't fix this issue back when it happened to Halo 3 ODST.

Keep up the good work Bungie.

There's a pool chemical called No More Problems. But at my store we get the same chemical from a different company and it's called Trouble Free.

Related to Halo? not at all.

how do i get a nameplat in matchmaking lobby???/

  • 09.23.2010 11:09 PM PDT

I bought Halo Reach being super excited to get back into a fresh Halo experience. Upon load up of the game, I find that I can't even play. I get booted from matchmaking. Can't play past the first campaign mission. Can't even do firefight. All from disc read errors. I have a pro 20gig 360 and it plays every other game fine. I called Microsoft support, and am not really sure what to make of their solution. I was told to send in my disc to them for a replacement disc. After reading the replies in this thread I'm doubtful that will even help. I just want to play the game I shelled out my hard earned money for.

Wow that's two people today that are now being told to send in disks. That's the third solution from support now. So far people have been told to:

Send in their 360
Send in their hard drive
Send in their Halo Reach disk

I think we are guinea pigs so they can actually figure out what's wrong.

I have a 2006 20GB console (the original no hdmi one, never failed/RRODed). My Reach disc is made in Ireland. I can launch the game as far as the menu but when I try to start campaign I get the DRE. First time I got the opening cut scene before the error.

Originally I assumed this was my drive on its way out (I've had some issues before with DVD's stuttering and games not reading). Since I'm out of warranty, I cracked my case open and cleaned everything (inc laser lens) to see if that helped. It didn't then I found this thread...

Yesterday I phoned Xbox Support (in the UK) 4 times and had no consistent advice.

First time I got through to a call centre in India - I was told by the support man that he knew the problem and that I'd need to send my console in for a free repair...the line was poor though and I was cut off before I could arrange the return.

Second time -India again - support lady didn't even seem to understand what I was saying and the line quality was appalling...I gave up and hung up.

Third time - Irish call centre - support guy had no idea about the problem, put me on hold so he could check, he came back and said I needed to send my disc in but that it would take 2 weeks so I'd be better off returning it in store.

(Having read this thread I was/am sceptical that there is any point in doing this...so I thought I'd phone again)

Fourth call - Ireland again - told to return disc but that instore would be quicker.

I've not returned my disc yet...not convinced there's any point...

Here I found a solution. (You might need to be over the age of 18 or get your parents to explain this to you...)If you don't know what a class action lawsuit is then educate yourself. Ask your parents or find a dictionary.

If microsoft or bungie refuses to address/fix the issue by the time the first patch is implemented then the blam is really goin to hit the fan. If the only language microsoft can speak is $dollar signs$ then we will surley get their attention when the issue is brought to court.

P.S. Plz feel free to Quote this thread if you feel the same way

Clearly I am not the only one with this problem. Don't get me wrong I have always loved bungie but I want to see someone (whether it bungie or microsoft) compensate my losses in a REFUND (not a disc replacement) or a new console or something. The page 35 reply from urk is pretty much word for word what each microsoft customer support rep is telling each and every one of us when we call in. Please tell us something we don't know. Its truly sickening how microsoft and bungie are making top dollar off of steadfast fans in such hard economic times.

THE ONLY THING BETWEEN YOU AND YOUR REFUND IS THE CONTRIBUTION OF YOUR TRUTHFUL TESTIMONY. LIKE I HAVE MENTIONED EARLIER, IF SOMETHING IS NOT DONE BY EARLY OCTOBER (PATCH) LOOK FORWARD TO FINDING ME ASAP SO WE CAN TAKE PROPER LEGAL ACTION. ECONOMICS 101: THE BUYERS HAVE CONTROL OF THE MARKET NOT THE OTHER WAY AROUND.

  • 09.24.2010 1:38 AM PDT

I can't believe that there is still no answer from Bungie. I think taking a legal action is the best idea.

  • 09.24.2010 2:41 AM PDT

Filing a class action lawsuit isn't as hard as you think it is. A great plan of action is to file a complaint with your local Better Business Bureau (BBB). [The BBB is] A non-profit, member-funded organization of thousands of US businesses dedicated to building fair and honest relationships between businesses and consumers. The BBB uses news alerts, databases, and other methods to maintain an ethical business environment.

BUT FIRST KEEP IN MIND BUNGIE HAS YET TO RELEASE THEIR FIRST PATCH SO WE WILL WAIT AND SEE WHAT PROGRESS HAS BEEN MADE AFTER EARLY OCTOBER. IF YOU ARE CONFUSED ABOUT ANY THING I HAVE MENTIONED PLEASE FEEL FREE TO DO SOME PERSONAL RESEARCH OR ASK A KNOWLEDGABLE MENTOR. I AM MORE THAN HAPPY TO ACCEPT ANY MESSAGES VIA FORUMS OR XBOX LIVE.

Back again guys, I've had a good couple of sessions on campaign, averaging 4 to 5 hours straight each time without problems however game freeze returned last night during theatre mode on pillar of autumn. Oh well, much better than before, at least I've been able to finish the campaign. Time to see how matchmaking works.
