Wanted to put my $0.02 in for the record, who knows how many people are having the issue but not having their voices heard. I got my Reach disc on launch day from Amazon.com. Fired up the box and installed to HD on my MW2 250GB box. Jumped into a 4 player party to play invasion and played one round, then at the start of the second round got kicked to dashboard for DRE. Made 3 more attempts that night with 1 being successful the other 2 kicked to dash for DRE.

I then started into the solo Campaign since I couldn't play with the party. Made it to the end of ONI: Sword Base and after the cutscene, before level scoring, got kicked to Dash for DRE. Gave me credit for finishing the level but Nightfall will not load, just DRE every time I try and start it.

After that experience I went through all the troubleshooting measures for DRE (on xbox.com) and called 1-800-4-MY-XBOX and went through the service call, troubleshooting, and they told me to send it in.

Ended up borrowing a co-workers Elite (Jasper unit) just to see, and sure enough no DRE issues so far. I have played a few matchmaking games, co-op campaign games, and finished the solo campaign. Same disc I had in my box but no issues in the other machine.

Like many others I find it appalling that anyone would have to send their console in for repair for a single game. My xbox plays every other game I own on disc with no problems. Is the next new release going to require me or others to send their box in? It does not instill further confidence in a brand and experience I have invested in.

There are still a few more days before the shipping label expires, still wondering if a patch of some sort would get this sorted out and save me the hassle and lost time from sending my console in...

I'm getting DREs with the Halo: Reach console! They can't even make it run on their own console let alone and other versions -_-

That's an interesting find. That's the case with me too, but I thought that maybe it had something to do with not playing any multiplayer yet. Can anyone else confirm that they are experiencing this as well?

I sent my Xbox away last week's Thursday or Friday and had it shipped to Germany for repairs (I live in Finland). Yesterday it showed the repairs are done and I noticed my Xbox's serial number had changed so I'm guessing they've sent me a new one or something.

Hopefully it's here by the end of next week.

I have managed to play the game fine until yesterday. Now i'm getting DRE all the time. My Xbox is also a brand new Halo: Reach limited edition console....

I have the game installed to my hhd, still get dre, also my armor avatar here isn't updated either. Not really sure of the connection but just letting u know its me too

update: earlier i said my game seemed to have fixed itself, tried playing last night and got dres in the usual areas. Although it was more inconsistent. i was able to sometimes see the credits earned screen after multiplayer match. the campaign was totally screwy.

Also on my profile the avatar is the default even though i have been able to customize it in game.

Just checked some of my friends profiles(none of which are having problems) and their armor is default too, not all my friends have default armor but some... Maybe they havent yet 'triggered' an area for dre?

i fixed the broken armor and status issue by using an Ethernet cable instead of a wireless connection. its crazy but it works for me try it!

Well I just confirmed it is my xbox!! I am playing on my brothers new slim and it is working like a charm. WTF!!! I really don't want to send in my box and wait and spend more F'n money on MS!! This is some bull!!

It's seems if anyone is having this problem even on the newer consoles. It appears they are a lot more sensitive to dirt and scratches. Mine was doing DREs same as everyone. I got the disc repaired just to see if it would work and I have been playing for over an hour now with now problems at all. Seems to have worked. If you take it back to the retailer they will normally do this for free. Mine did. This was with Game in the UK.

I have a CORE system and it won't work past the fourth mission. I called microsoft and their solution for me is to get a new copy. I'm getting it today, hopefully it will work but I've read in many sites that the issue is with the old 360's, not the game itself.

OMFG.. So i decided to send my xbox in on monday to get this firmware patch or whatever for my launch xbox360 to play reach.
I got a little worried about the reason my xbox 360 tech support guy decided to put in for my console since last week no one really knew if you can patch the system to play the game.

But I decided to call 18004MYXBOX today and the representative told me that the last guy that helped me ship my xbox 360 out... he had sent it out for RROD and not the firmware patch issue since he wasnt aware of it at the time... so now im waiting for the xbox supervisors of the support warehouse to give me a call back whether what solution they can do. More than likely I feel like I just sent my xbox in for no reason and they arent going to repair it....

Does anyone know how much a old xbox 360 will cost if i trade it in without the harddrive because this is getting ridiculous. and FML because i knew turning my xbox 360 would be a fail because the support team for xbox is retarded as hell. Like WHY THE HELL WOULD YOU DIRECT ME TO INDIAN PEOPLE THAT CANT UNDERSTAND WHAT YOUR TALKING ABOUT SO THEY DEECIDE TO MAKE ASSUMPTIONS AND SEND IN YOUR XBOX FOR THE WRONG REASONS?!!

When You sent yours in for repair did they know what reason to send it in? because my representative guy just only put RROD for some dumb reason. I hope that the people who repair my xbox check everything and provide that patch as well....*fingers crossed*

Why are people asking Bungie to fix Microsoft's problem? Hell, I saw one asking Urk about the repair price of their xbox, wtf. Bungie has NOTHING to do with distribution or manufacturing.

Bungie made the game using Microsoft's Xbox 360 development kits, assuming that it would work on any other Microsoft Xbox 360 console, because that would just make sense. I blame the latest SDK for the majority of the problems, and manufacturer errors for the rest. The former can possibly be fixed with a patch, the latter would probably need replacement.

I'm new to Halo games. I was stoked to play this one because it looked pretty epic and all my friends have it.

Bought it 1 day after launch. Played Campaign fine all night. I tried to play the next day and didn't even start the first mission.

I returned it and got a new disk thinking it was the disk. Now the DREs are totally random. Sometimes I can play through the campaign, sometimes it freezes up. Sometimes I can play matchmaking, sometimes it boots me out.

I have to say to Bungie and MS that this is the last time I will be buying a XBox game. It's one thing to have a system that breaks after regular use because it gets too hot for everyone, its another to release your flagship game that doesn't even work. Shame. You need to own up and tell all these loyal fans why there games won't work. A generic 1-800 number is a kick in the balls.

I'm returning Halo, and buying a PS3. Anyone know of some rad PS3 games?

I'm rather gutted here too, today I bought Halo Reach, in addition to an xbox super elite (both from GameStation, respected business), only to get messages such as "This game can not be started for an unknown reason". Campaign will not start at all, forge will not work, nothing will open. After spending a good £170 today, to only get the main menu was rather disappointing. It may be a problem with the xbox (but this still manages to play my rather scratched Halo 3?) but can't be sure for now.

If you guys have any time plz feel free to look back at my posts (pg. 86) on taking steps towards legal action because if bungie/ microsoft doesnt at least publicly address/solve the problem than I feel this would be the best possible way to fix the situation for the small community of fans affected.

I 100% agree with this. Something has to be done and if Microsoft or Bungie are not going to, we should.

Here I found a solution. (You might need to be over the age of 18 or get your parents to explain this to you...)If you don't know what a class action lawsuit is then educate yourself. Ask your parents or find a dictionary.

If microsoft or bungie refuses to address/fix the issue by the time the first patch is implemented then the blam is really goin to hit the fan. If the only language microsoft can speak is $dollar signs$ then we will surley get their attention when the issue is brought to court.

Clearly I am not the only one with this problem. Don't get me wrong I have always loved bungie but I want to see someone (whether it bungie or microsoft) compensate my losses in a REFUND (not a disc replacement) or a new console or something. The page 35 reply from urk is pretty much word for word what each microsoft customer support rep is telling each and every one of us when we call in. Please tell us something we don't know. Its truly sickening how microsoft and bungie are making top dollar off of steadfast fans in such hard economic times.
