For anyone in New Zealand with this problem, just got off the phone with Microsoft and they basically said "We are fully aware of this problem, the only fix is to send your console in, your console is out of warranty however because this is a known problem we will repair it for free."
So regrettably off it goes and I'll see what happens when I get it back.....


This is exactly what I mean, they're saying that the only way to fix it is to send it in yet we've got some of them saying they are going to release a patch to fix it which it can't be fixed by a patch from what I heard.

Like I've said two times before Microsoft is giving out false info half of the time for people to get their hopes up. They are seriously trying to avoid heat, I don't even bother reading articles about the disc read error you know why?! Because it's all the same damn thing!!!

G4 = Call Support

Bungie = Call Support

Any game media = Call Support

Call support, Call support, Call support!!!!

I DON'T WANT TO CALL THE DAMN SUPPORT!!!!! I don't wanna waste my precious time talking to someone who isn't even -blam!- sure what they are saying themselves and reading it from a list, just tell us straight up if you can really fix it or not?!!! Did you know about the disc read error before the game shipped out?! Is this a scam in a way or illegal?!!Hell, if I was a reporter then I would be bombarding them with questions until I chased them into a damn corner...

Lets face it guys, they have our money....Microsoft is trying to lie to us, Bungie doesn't have any control of the situation, Video Game Media doesn't give a rat's ass about this...

Talking on here isn't doing any damn good since Urk only comes on here to repeat what 'they' tell him to say, at this point I'll take anything said by a Microsoft employee or Bungie employee with a grain of salt...

Looks like I spoke to soon, I was put onto a specalist who told me my console is to far out of warrant (2years) and they will not give me a free repair, in fact the only way to get Halo to work is PAY $200 (NZD) to have it fixed! I pay $120 for the game then they want me to pay a further $200 just to get this one -blam!- game working!! what a load of -blam!-. Just had a 20min argument on the phone with their supervisor whos only answer was "You could try selling the game online" what the hell?!!?

Someone needs to get there ass beat. This disc reading bull-blam!- is ridiculous. This is the second disc I've gotten that hasn't worked. I am currently looking at this forum for all of the ppl who have had this particular issue and i am writing their gamertag down. After I am done I am goin to contact everyone and ask them if they would like to participate in a class action lawsuit if microsoft doesn't fix/formally address the issue after the patch is released in early october.

I called today for the 4th time with my Second Service ID number to tell them that I never received my email. Yesterday Support said they would send me a new disc. Today they said the disc is already on the way and to wait for it in the mail.
WITHOUT RETURNING MY ORIGINAL?? I doubt that. I will call back Monday. They cannot get away with this. Everyone needs to keep posting. People receiving repaired consoles need to let us know if they actually work. Lurkers need to post that they are having issues too.

The first disc i had problems with campaign, and now the second disc i have problems with multiplayer... Sad Sad Day.

oh and i tried to install it to HDD and it didn't work the first time

I just got off the phone with xbox support. The rep said 'there will be an update on xbox live from microsoft soon'. Sounds good... a little too good. Has anyone else heard this? If not try to call 1-800-4my-xbox now. Im curious if they tell you the same. Either way im calling tomorrow to see if i get the same story.

For those that are trying to keep track, calling support will lead to one of the following "solutions":

1. Console gets repaired, some are being told it's free while others have to pay

2. Hard Drive gets replaced

3. Disk gets replaced

4. You are told to hang tight, because a patch is coming

And we have zero confirmation that ANY of these are going to work or will even happen in the case of the mysterious patch.

Seems that I'm better off than most of you, because today the game actually let me finish the last level without resetting me back to the beginning every time I died. The game did, however, give me a Disc Read Error during the closing credits. MAYBE I'll try playing online tomorrow but something is telling me it's not even worth the hassle. If this game was trash I would've been over this, but the game is quite good when it is actually working. I would like to actually get my money's worth by being able to play it without holding my breath every time the game pauses in fear of a level reset or DRE.

Lot of new people in this thread now. If you are lurking please create an account and post if you have problems, it doesn't take long.

For those of you with Twitter accounts Xbox Support does have a Twitter account that they respond with. I've seen some people try going through them for the Reach DRE problem but they seem to refer people to 800 number from what I can tell. Maybe if more people hit them up some actual information can be relayed to us.

This is just a hunch and feel free to criticize it, but I think that maybe since reach is optimized to run off the hard drive the way that it is loaded may be a leading cause in the DRE because even people that save it to the hard drive get it sometimes, including me...
