apparently my brother inquired about it at bestbuy, and the guy there said something about M$ basically leaving the older version of the system behind forcing people to buy newer ones

whooooo knooooooows

all i have to say is i am boycotting xbox products after this

People at BestBuy are idiots. I went there once saying I wanted a 1080p LCD TV and the guy thought 1080p was a brand name. I wouldn't listen to anything they say.

And FWIW, if you read through this thread, there are several people who have issues with the new xbox360s to include the Reach special editions. I'm guessing the majority of the people having issues tend to be the older 360s simply because there are more of the older versions in existence.

It was reported that console sales doubled in the UK during launch week. I am sure they just went out and bought new machines after their games did not work. We here in the U.S. with our sucky economy and so many being unemployed or Under employed we cannot and will not do that. We would appreciate some sort of formal response. The "small number" would like some sort of acknowledgment.

Some people can't get their money back. That's the problem. Also, it's about the principal of people spending $60 bucks for any product they expect to be worth the money they paid for it. It's more of a consumer issue than anything else.

If I could get my money back I would, the retailer will not give me a refund only swap the disc and microsoft will not give me a free repair only charge me $200 to get it done as my console is out of warranty. I put the question to the supervisor I talked to - "What do i do with this disc that I cant use?" She suggested I sell it on eBay to try and get some money back....so there you go hows that for a official response.

Sorry guys I just signed in to the forum, and they won't let me post for 24 hours, so I had to reply.

so I THINK I FIGURED OUT A WAY TO FIX SOME CASES OF DRE. After 5 days of testing, I think I should post this here to relieve the pain and anger of the comrades here.

By some cases, I mean that if you are able to play fine WITHOUT HDD, then I'm pretty sure it will fix this issue.

I got DRE EVERY TIME at first cinematics, and after a Firefight game. I removed the HDD, and I could go through these sections of the game.

Ok. Here's how I got mine working.

1. Get a usb drive. Mine's 4G. About 4 years old.

2. Make sure you backed up everything in the usb.

3. Plug it in the xbox.

4. Turn it on, go to System settings-memory-then u will see ur usb drive there.

5. I don't quite remember this step, but if you press Y to bring up action menu for the selected device, there will be a menu item that says "Configure this device for XBOX" or sth like that.

6. What that does is that XBOX formatts the whole thing and make it usable as an XBOX360 memory unit. Do it.

7. Move your profile to the usb. Again press Y over the HDD, not usb, to bring up the menu, and press transfer content.

8. The moving procedure is so easy that if you are over 5 years old you can figure it out in 5 seconds.

9. Turn off the xbox, remove the stupid HDD, but leave the USB there, then turn it on.

10. It will ask you to do a system update.

11. After the update is done, then you can play Reach without -blam!- DRE screen.

So here's the result.

5 days of ABSOLUTELY NO DRE after anything, campaign, firefight, MP, whatever you do, it works as it is supposed to.

Disadvantages? No HDD, so you can't install your game unless ur USB is like 8G. Firefight "matchmaking" doesnt work, as it requires an HDD to play. (you can play Firefight from the main menu though. Just the matchmaking one is not working.) No install means -blam!- LOUD noises.

Advantages? You can play the effing game you paid $60(more than this for some of you guys out there :D) for.

I'd like to see if this is working for some of you out there.

Remember, that I was able to play fine without HDD. If you detach ur HDD and still get DRE, then I cannot guarantee that this is going to work. But I recommend that you try it out at least.

TriggaMafia is my GT... No I am not of African ethnicity.

just -blam!- installed to HDD, deleted all my Halo 3 data, GTA4 data, AvP data, Forza 2 data and anything taking up big space... froze 10 seconds into forge. It was my 2nd disc, I cleared my system cache, called microsoft... nothing.

Here I spent my midnight buying this game for $80 and not even able to play it. I'm lucky if it even gets past the loading screen now. the 1st week was bearable, but it froze more frequently lately and I am -blam!- pissed. Someone needs to fix this bull-blam!-. Way to let your fans down Bungie. What, did you think that since this was your last halo game that you could get away with the money? Good luck having me buy your next game.

This really is some crap! I can play the game on my brothers xbox ad my friends but not my own! And the only solution is to pay to get it repaired so I can play one effin game!! This is some crap! Conspiracy or whatever is going on, this really needs to be addressed. False advertisement is really what it comes down to. They said this game is compatible with all 360's but obviously it is NOT! They need to get their heads out of their asses and address this before things get really ugly...

How long did it take before M$ admitted the RROD wasn't just a 'small number of people'?

  • 09.25.2010 1:06 AM PDT

Whilst calling support seems to be a completely useless move, anyone know the UK number? My disc is convinced it's a DVD, and came with scratches on it (which I ignored at the time, given the state of some of my other discs which play fine, so it's going to look like my fault now T_T) and it takes 7-8 tries to get it to Game, and even then I can't play sword base (2nd level)

I too am experiencing the same issues. Got to the second mission and DRE. It crashed to the point to where it won't play anything, to include games and DVD's...MS says send it in and pay, which I promptly said "umm no its a 'known' issue (as stated in support email) so it should be fixed by you since your the issue!" Of course got me no where but im going to see what happens. Ill try some of the other suggestions but nothing is working to date. I hope that Bungie or MS does something to solve this issue or I'll be taking my business elsewhere!

I did this method as well and it works great like that.

yep, long night of solace loads up without my hdd and works with the usb one plugged in, so all is not lost but having to do this is quite frankly taking the urine

  • 09.25.2010 8:50 AM PDT

So to get a better idea for the situation, can someone make a list of consoles that aren't effected by this problem?(year and hard drive)

  • 09.25.2010 8:58 AM PDT

my friend actually had a problem with this game and every other game he played, after a long time your harddrive will start to "die" and he bought a new 250gb one and it works with no DRE, i am in need of a bigger hdd anyways so imma buy one sometime and post if that works

  • 09.25.2010 9:17 AM PDT

The food chain starts here, get in line.

Call me out for wearing a tinfoil hat, but I believe this is some anti-piracy measure perhaps to thwart modders, that's causing the firmware on the disk drive to act up.

Of course Microsoft is most likely sticking it's head in the ground about this blunder and trying to blame it on something else.

As I said before I was told by 1-800 Xbox to send the disk in, but I just got a replacement and it still is giving me DRE on loading screens!?? Don't tell me it's just a disk issue because it's not, I can play other games just fine with the exception of Xbox originals. Which stopped working oddly enough the moment I got Reach.

This has gone on long enough, I fine with getting a repair but I will NOT pay to get my Xbox Elite repaired which is absurd considering how new it is. I am also very unhappy with the severe lack of information at this moment. We still have NO idea if this is a disk issue or an Xbox one or for that matter what exactly is causing the problem. It's like MS is treating us like idiots and thinks we are going to let this go.
