we're getting closer and closer to 100 pages folks!

100 pages of extremely pissed off Halo fans that have completely lost their faith in both Microsoft and Bungie...and we STILL have no word on what is causing the problem, and people STILL aren't able to get the free repairs that they deserve, and shouldn't even have to worry about in the first place.

i hate to just be another person on here complaining, but jesus christ, this is unbelievable

Sigh, I called them up today, a few days ago, and a week ago, and another time before that. No dice. They just won't give us a free repair, on the website the repair can be lowered to $99, but this just just ludicrous. I tried everything, asked to speak to the supervisor, waited 15 minutes for her to get on. The foreign accent lady that doesn't even sound like a supervisor told me the same thing as the other guys, they can't do shi about it.

We all share the pain here. I'm pretty pissed off. $60 on a game that won't even work right. The only thing we can hope for is a patch.

#1) All of you in United states and Canada please go on to
www.BBB.Org File a product/advertising complaint against Microsoft I used the main office in Redmond, Wa. I searched the company with phone number we all know and love (800)4my-xbox
Please this only takes minutes. They are a member of the Better Business Bureau. This is why this company is here.

#2) Microsoft. There is this thing corporate America uses in the customer service industry. Its called a pre shift meeting.
It would be nice if all the agents were at least saying the same thing.

Money is the anthem of success

Now Im banned for quiting matches ! thank you Disc error -.-

  • 09.25.2010 4:06 PM PDT

I second the BBB idea. Just be civil and patient. Exploding in a orgy of cuss words on the forums isn't going to solve anything.

Welcome to the world unleashed.

Been reading on here about peoples disc problems and I haven't one....Until tonight. While playing with my brother doing Co-Op Legendary Campaign, we'd finish the part where you activate the missiles and take down the super destroyer. Well at this point it loads up the cutscene showing where he tosses down the red flare to be picked up as he overlooks New Alexandria. Well at this point the screen goes black and you have the achievement's pop up, then it gets the unreadable disc error, well thinking it's the console, which it's the MW2 Elite Console, we switch my Elite which is a year old, still the same problem, it only loads up the next level to 53% then it quits and goes back to 0% and restarts this till it finally says, "Players are unable to load content" then that's the end of it. This is ticking me off, cause Bungie has a good rep of not letting games get messed up like this.

You call that cheez whiz?!?

So I don't seem to have it as bad as some of you, everything but my campaign is in working order. Long Night of Solace in particular is pretty bad.

I have a first gen console (shipped to me as the repair after my FIFTH box crashed, i've been plagued with RRoD) with a 120g hdd.

ConsumerAffairs.com tries to help. All of the complaints submitted through our complaint form are reviewed by class action attorneys and hundreds of cases have been filed as a result. There is no charge to the consumer for this review.

Read more: http://consumeraffairs.com/class_actions/#ixzz10adf1BaP

You can also file a complaint here. Lets try to get as many complaints logged as possible. I would like the BBB and Consumers Affairs to come to work on Monday morning and know that something is UP by the amount of email complaints they have.

I've been following the developments in this thread closely. I pre-ordered reach and it's sitting back at my house on the other side of the country waiting for me to return from a few weeks working out of state. I'm wondering whether my copy will work and debating what actions I might take should I be the recipient of the dreaded DRE.

Anyway, I thought of this - Has anyone tried emailing the Consumerist ( http://consumerist.com/ ) yet? This is right up their alley; large corporation screwing over customers. They have a pretty good track record with getting the word out and generally pwning companies that try to duck consumer responsibility. If they run a story on this, M$ will not be happy. I would recommend every person who is unhappy with the customer support received from M$'s 1-800 number (ie: paying M$ over $100 to have a perfectly fine xbox "fixed" so it will play a game) to email the consumerist.
I shot them an email with a link to this thread.

So another follow up, before I made the call to 18004myxbox, My MW2 edition console was my back up for playing Reach. I experienced no problems with it until the afternoon of 9-20, I turned on the box to get a few matches in, and it keeps saying "Open Tray" even though the disc is in there. I opened and closed the tray a bunch of times, no dice. Powered off then on, no dice. I pop in "Ghostbusters", turn the console off, then on, and it spins up fine. I pop Reach back in, it spins up fine. No problems for the next two days. Again in the afternoon, I go to play some matches, open tray error happens again. I have a shipping label en route to me for my Reach edition console, but as soon as I get that box back, I'm sending in the MW2 console. If the Reach one isn't fixed, I'll have to try the Resident Evil console until the MW2 one gets back. In any case, the MW2 console worked fine for almost a week, then I started getting errors. I don't know what that signifies, just throwing it out there.

Oh, the first time i called the xbox hotline, the guy had me search for corrupted files and such, found nothing, then he told me to try the game without the hard drive, so I told him i'd call back if I experience any problems. I made it past exodus without a hitch, then I finally got a disc read error without the hard drive in the console, so take that for what its worth.

Subject: Disc Not Reading

I have the COD MW2 super elite with 250 HDD and the only thing that locks up is the campaign. Multi works fine everything works but the campaign. Gets a disc read error after beating chapter 7

Everyone, please message me of any (large popularity) gaming blogs/sites/forums that you may know of. I have a blog that I wrote as professionally as I could, and if I can post it in as many places as possible, we might be able to get the word out about what Bungie and Microsoft are doing to it's loyal customers.

I'm not that big into the Halo/Xbox community but if you can, PLEASE MESSAGE ME with any sites that have a forum or blog section so I can post what I wrote in there, and have other people read it. Hopefully word will get around and maybe the news and Microsoft will hear about it and fix this problem ASAP

  • 09.25.2010 7:06 PM PDT

Gotta wonder where bungie is??? They are usually good at helping their customers....

  • 09.25.2010 7:30 PM PDT

I ordered my game from costco online. It stops reading at random loading screens and today, when I got to rally point Bravo on Tip of the Spear, instead of advancing the mission, it restarted. If I try to start up that point, I get a disc read error.

  • 09.25.2010 7:39 PM PDT

I've heard a lot of people saying they get problems at Tip of the Spear

Sorry guys I just signed in to the forum, and they won't let me post for 24 hours, so I had to reply.

so I THINK I FIGURED OUT A WAY TO FIX SOME CASES OF DRE. After 5 days of testing, I think I should post this here to relieve the pain and anger of the comrades here.

By some cases, I mean that if you are able to play fine WITHOUT HDD, then I'm pretty sure it will fix this issue.

I got DRE EVERY TIME at first cinematics, and after a Firefight game. I removed the HDD, and I could go through these sections of the game.

Ok. Here's how I got mine working.

1. Get a usb drive. Mine's 4G. About 4 years old.

2. Make sure you backed up everything in the usb.

3. Plug it in the xbox.

4. Turn it on, go to System settings-memory-then u will see ur usb drive there.

5. I don't quite remember this step, but if you press Y to bring up action menu for the selected device, there will be a menu item that says "Configure this device for XBOX" or sth like that.

6. What that does is that XBOX formatts the whole thing and make it usable as an XBOX360 memory unit. Do it.

7. Move your profile to the usb. Again press Y over the HDD, not usb, to bring up the menu, and press transfer content.

8. The moving procedure is so easy that if you are over 5 years old you can figure it out in 5 seconds.

9. Turn off the xbox, remove the stupid HDD, but leave the USB there, then turn it on.

10. It will ask you to do a system update.

11. After the update is done, then you can play Reach without -blam!- DRE screen.

So here's the result.

5 days of ABSOLUTELY NO DRE after anything, campaign, firefight, MP, whatever you do, it works as it is supposed to.

Disadvantages? No HDD, so you can't install your game unless ur USB is like 8G. Firefight "matchmaking" doesnt work, as it requires an HDD to play. (you can play Firefight from the main menu though. Just the matchmaking one is not working.) No install means -blam!- LOUD noises.

Advantages? You can play the effing game you paid $60(more than this for some of you guys out there :D) for.

I'd like to see if this is working for some of you out there.

Remember, that I was able to play fine without HDD. If you detach ur HDD and still get DRE, then I cannot guarantee that this is going to work. But I recommend that you try it out at least.

Today I decided to actually call support about this. I was hesitant because it seemed like they didn't have a concrete fix, so I didn't even want to waste my time. However after getting disc read errors when trying to join a matchmaking game I finally broke and decided to call.

Let me first say that the person I spoke to was extremely nice and helpful, so not everyone at support is out of touch as public perception would lead you to believe. We stayed on the phone for a while, and basically support can only go through their troubleshooting steps - there is still not a concrete answer as to why this is happening.

Anyway long story short, he walked me through the exact fix I'm quoting and it did fix my matchmaking problems (for the meantime). Because it works without my HD he seems to think it's a hard drive problem. However I don't have another hard drive to test this theory out with, and I want to give it a few more days until I break down and purchase a new one. Some people here have said that they have tried swapping hard drives and had the same DRE problems, so who knows. Maybe over the weekend Bungie/MS will come up with SOMETHING to fix this issue. If we don't get word by Wednesday or something maybe I'll give a new HD a shot.

IMPORTANT SIDE NOTE: The support person did say this seems to be a rare issue, based on calls received. He said more people called in about the bonus recon armor than they did for DRE problems. That means either a.) not a lot of people are bothering to call, or b.) this really is rare, considering the amount sold. I'm leaning towards a.). So if you have the problem please call support, even if you think it will get you nowhere. I think in the long run it will do all of us some good, and maybe, just MAYBE you'll actually get someone cool like I did today to chat with so it won't be so bad.

i watch blu rays on my ps3 all the time....

anyways:

at this point i've put an add out for my reach, borderlands, a 3 month live membership, and a 50ft ethernet cord for 85$. if it sells i will then take an axe to my xbox and be done with microsoft products forever.

  • 09.25.2010 9:05 PM PDT

"You could've had a V8...now it's too late!"

I emailed Microsoft of this issue. I do hope they reply soon...

Reach is a real let down, I've been expecting this game for months, only to be -blam!- blocked in the end.

If this is any help for you guys, I lucked out 8 times today playing Firefight and Campaign without the Hardrive. Playing without seems to fix the problem-albeit only for a short time.

Anyways, why the hell would anyone want to pay 100 bucks just to get a simple software update? These repair services are utter BS
