Oh yeah, one final thought. For a developer who claims to care about your fans, burrowing your head in the sand, refusing to address the public that have legitimate complaints with your product and hopping the negativity will just go away doesn't do much for your "caring" reputation.
Sort it out

I called tech support 2x. Replaced the disc 2x etc. Tech support manager told me they have been advised to not give any more free repairs out and that anyone out of warranty has to pay the $119.00 fix. I shot XZ3ROorDieX a message to see if he can help out. I wouldnt mind dealing with this myself if it was something I did. The way I explained it to the tech support was that I refuse to pay for a fix on a product I was sold by your company that had no warning of not being compatible with the system it is supposed to play on. There was no warning on the game so it XBOX should be expected to correct the error as it is the companies choice to sell the game to people with the understanding it will work on the system they built. I think it is pretty clear what needs to be done.

I just ran into this disc read error last night. My best friend is also experienceing this problem, so it's more than just an isolated problem. If Reach was intended to be ripped to the xbox then I'm screwed because I was one of those poor shmucks that went out and bought the early model with the tiny hard drive.

Well I guess we're going to find out soon if someone is moderating this thread since someone just posted a link to the OST.

Oh and while you're in here, care to give us an update as to what is going on?

I just filed my complaint with BBB too. 90 something pages for this idea to come up. Keep posting ideas something has to work.

i got a new disc today, and it actually works, havent DRE in 5 hours and counting, and everything looks better than on my old disc

  • 09.26.2010 1:26 PM PDT

Did you get your new disc from Microsoft? Or did you return it to the store?

  • 09.26.2010 1:49 PM PDT

Shape without form, shade without colour,
Paralysed force, gesture without motion;
Those who have crossed
With direct eyes, to death's other Kingdom
Remember us - if at all - not as lost

almost every game except reach does this for me.

  • 09.26.2010 2:14 PM PDT

Should I register for a repair online or call them, it's saying I'm out of warranty. I recieved my console in November 09 and the warranty expired on March 14, 2010 that's wasn't even a freaking year.

  • 09.26.2010 2:17 PM PDT

i got it from the store, and 6 hours in, disc unreadable. pissing me off

Well, I bought Reach from Newegg. It arrived and my 360 would not recognize it as a game -- it would always recognize it as a DVD, a CD or not at all. After reading through this thread I saw the boiling technique, so I figured "why not?"

I boiled my disc for a couple of minutes, cleaned it off with some pumped hand soap (I guess something from the pot I was using got onto the disc because it looked grimy after boiling), cleaned it off with tap water, dried it off, and afterwards it seems to be working fine.

I'm about 25% installing it right now, so we'll see.

EXTREMELY IMPORTANT NOTICE TO ALL OF THOSE PARTICIPATING IN [POTENTIAL] CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT............ PLZ READ ENTIRE POST..............

In order to maintain the this organized legal pursuit plz try not to reply/contact the person using the identity of jerkyhedshot until I am able to reach him via xbox live chat. He has stated that he is having problems with his halo reach and needs help but he has never mentioned anything about buying a new xbox. The reason I find this alarming is because the gamertag registered to his account has the gamerscore of 0 and he has no contacts added to his friends list which leads me to believe he would have mentioned something about buying a new account for xbox live. Again plz try to disregard his posts or any of his messages until further notice.

[Edit]

If you do end up sending me a message using this forum requesting help or insight plz leave me a gamertag so i may contact/review the truthfulness of your claim. Xbox live allows me to access plenty of features allowing me to actually tell if you are being honest or not about your claims. (And as for you bungie/microsoft, you better be careful when trying to pull a stunt like that. We [plaintiff] will be able to use this as a clear representaion of your dishonorable attempts to attack our legal honesty.

eventually i will just buy a new slim xbox, but please bungie, please post on this forum saying that you or microsoft are at least even trying to solve this problem

  • 09.26.2010 4:43 PM PDT

@Hawkeye93 i wouldn't suggest buyin a new xbox just cuz ur having a problem with one game. it is clearly not ur xbox's fault. Just wait it out and see what happens after the patch is out.

you are the dumbest mother -blam!- on this thread. Why would you blame microsoft? MICROSOFT SHOULD NOT BE PAYING FOR YOUR CONSOLE TO GET IT FIXED WHEN THERES NOTHING WRONG WITH IT.

You need to be blaming bungie to fix the game and release a patch or send out games to us. Thats not microsoft's job. Microsoft doesnt do the beta testing, Bungie does. Its Bungie's sad fault dumbass.

If it wasnt for microsoft youde be using punchcards and floppy disks so shut the -blam!- up

I have played other halos for years and got rid of my old xbox. I just got an xbox for Reach and had to try to recover my gamertag but I think it was deleted. I DONT plan on engaging in a class action suit. I am not new to this culture. Im not sure why it matters how many games I have or have not played on reach? I had thousands under Halo3. I can't login to halo reach because the DRE comes up in the opening cinematics. I can't login to the multiplayer play because of this. All my other games work fine.

It's funny how everyone is afraid of the big purple dinosaurs but no one even thinks twice about the big green man that ways an ton and can flip tanks.

Wait so my old Xbox 360 the Arcade model has a hard drive the 60gb and it plays the game the way it should play. I downloaded the game to my hard drive and it works, i also haven't been playing any other game and when i shutdown my Xbox though for a brief second there is a green flash on my screen. Is this the sign of something bad. But guys am i a high risk that my Xbox tomorrow is not going to play Reach? Oh and i need to ask are some of you guys serious about taking Legal action?

  • 09.26.2010 5:09 PM PDT

asasin taha

I feel bad for you guys. I mean didn't they see this problem, this is insane

Well, as long as you're not buying it just for this game, that's fine because there have been reports that even the new Xbox slim (including the Reach version) has the exact same issues.

Yeah, well, it's good that it works for you. The only problem with your solution is that your solution only helps those who can't even get the Xbox to read the disc in the first place, not those who got DRE in the middle of the game. And it does seem like more and more users are getting DRE even though they were playing the game just fine in the first 2 weeks.

Have a fishy stick!

Yeah my game usually plays for 30-40 minutes before I DRE. Well guys, looks like we just made a new term. DRE.
