Interesting. I got a call this afternoon from someone claiming to be on the escalations team at Microsoft. He was doing his best to sell me on the benefit of paying for an upgrade, er, "repair" to my xbox. He was saying how he had the same problem with his and didn't get any real discount on the repairs as an employee either. Then he started adding up the cost of a refurbished console from Game Stop plus the one year MS warranty and this and that. I finally cut him off and told him that if he was trying to convince me that I should pay for this "repair" that he wasn't going to succeed. He again stated the no more free repairs stance MS has taken on it and I reiterated to him what Urk had told us, that this couldn't be fixed by a software update and that MS should not be charging us. He promised to look into it further and call me back if he could set it up but suggested I shouldn't expect anything.
I don't know if his call was instigated by an escalation from the rep I spoke with yesterday or my filling out the survey they sent me that I was very dissatisfied. Either way, I have my doubts about his story about having the same problem with Reach. For one, it just sounds too convenient. For another, he had a noticeable Indian accent. The latter doesn't prove anything, of course, but it does add suspicion.
