It's beginning to seem like otherwise fine discs are GAINING this problem. What the hell xD

Here's my story:

I'm from Europe, bought the new Xbox 360 S 4GB and Halo Reach worked fine til today. Now,after playing a matchmaking game, it always says "Disc is unreadable".

On the disc there are no scratches. Please bungie, fix it!

Again:

-Xbox 360 S 4GB (with flashdrive) is struck too!

I've literally created an account on bungie.net just to share my anguish with the rest of you. I have a normal 20 gig hardrive, which i believe to b the launch 360's. Dropped 60 bucks to play this amazing game, but wont load any campaign levels beyond alexandria and can only play a lil less then half of my games on xbox live....

Tried downloading it to the hard drive thinking it wud help.....sure does load a lot quicker but it means jack -blam!- cause im still getting disc read errors. How the hell is Microsoft/bungie gonna fix this?

easy.

they won't.

What i don't understand is why people still buy these products for them. The game is fun, but not worth the hundreds of dollars of buying a new xbox just to play

Wow yet another person with a 360 Slim experiences the problem. You mean to tell me all this hardware is bad and it's not a problem with the code? Doesn't sound right to me.

Can someone tell me how the ODST issue was resolved (if it ever was)? The little research I did on it turned up nothing.

I bought the Halo: Reach edition on launch day. The copy of the game that came with it would freeze up, the audio would drop out (environment sounds, but no weapon sounds---WEIRD!), and the game would freeze up and say 'disc read error.'

I traded that copy of the game (it had a black case) and got the standalone copy of the game (green case) and STILL I get choppiness, audio dropping out (though not as much) and freezing when cancelling out of certain menus.

Anyone else experiencing this? And could it be affecting my online matchmaking? (I'm going to post a whole other topic on my troubles with matchmaking...GRRRRR!)

So, just to be clear, you are saying there WONT be a patch and the only way to play is to send the consoles in? Is it worth it to wait to see if a patch will be released online, or would I be wasting my time and should just send it in? I just want to know if there will be a patch, wont be, or its unknown at this time, and what would be quicker, sending in the console, or waiting for an online software update?

The resolution is not a patch.

then what is? please urk, answer us!

You think he freaking knows? He's telling what they tell him to say which is "Give Microsoft more money by asking them to repair my console which isn't even broken"

i know i just wish that by page 100 we at least know what the problem is, or even if they will even attempt at fixing it

It was never resolved, at least not to my knowledge. The complaints eventually just "died". I suspect that's what Microsoft is trying to do here: wait it out. Maybe Bungie's like that too, although I'm a little doubtful considering how they stickied this thread and didn't lock it yet (unlike some other threads with legitimate complaints).

I am taking the game back and waiting for MOH or Black OPS, anyone els doing the same. Two Worlds 2 also looks good, compared to the first one.

Have a fishy stick!

I called them up again today. The guy talking to me told me that he too had this problem and was waiting for a better resolution than sending it in for a $100 repair. I mentioned that 360 slims have this problem as well, and he replied back that no one is telling them what the cause of this DRE is.

Keep calling guys, sooner or later THEY'LL have to give up, not us.

  • 09.27.2010 2:36 PM PDT

I would call them, but here in Germany the hotline never heard about this f***** error -blam!-!

Maybe I'm the only european 360 Slim 4 GB who can't play Multiplayer anymore :(

I think that would be a bit much but they should certainly fix these problems.

  • 09.27.2010 3:30 PM PDT

For anyone that sent their Xbox 360 in, did you get them back yet? If so is it the same system?

  • 09.27.2010 3:37 PM PDT

My xbox is a launch one I believe (white console, silver tray) and has a lot of the same problems. I can play up to "Long night of solace" usually quite well and after that in the campaign lobby it starts to load the mission and then when it hits 30/40% it says "Players failed to load content" message. I already exchanged my disc and am now on second copy and it has same problem. I have cleared my cache, done everything.THIS SUCKS! All my friends are on the campaign and I can't. The matchmaking works fine as does firefight and forge. I have a 20GB HDD so that might be it. I will probably buy a new HDD if that is identified as the problem but I am not splashing out for new xbox. But I mean c'mon bungie at least tell us the problem. Then we have a chance of sorting it. Also to make matters worse one of my achievements dosen't appear on my list but does on my friends. GRRRR! A ray of hope does shine for us though my fellow angry gamers. Apparently Bungie are planning to do an update in October. All they have said allegedly is they are fixing the slim xbox's co-op campaign problem. I will not be happy if this costs me more than £50. Someone from bungie reply! Or anyone that can help me and everyone else.

The problem is in the HDD ,they change mine for free ,will see if the next one works.

Just so you all know for all you people saying it's all launch consoles or the Xbox 360 S 4gb, I have the Xbox 360 S 250gb and I have the disc read errors too.

[Edited on 09.27.2010 4:17 PM PDT]

  • 09.27.2010 4:10 PM PDT

that makes no sense, I have the 4 gig model wizhout a HDD and still I've got the same problem.

  • 09.27.2010 4:17 PM PDT

maybe it has something to do with the cache size on hdds, but that wouldn't explain why 250gigs aren't working...

  • 09.27.2010 4:19 PM PDT

I intend to live forever....so far, so good.

OK, I'm a little late to the picture but I just got the game recently and decided to knock out the campaign tonight, after getting through the 2ND level and getting the achievement (We're just getting started) The game faded to black (I'm assuming for a cut scene of some kind) and then "Disc Read Error" pops up.

The game is installed on the hard drive and literally hasn't been taken out of the Xbox (20GB old model - no HDMI port) since opening the game package. Absolutely ZERO chance at getting a scratch on it.

Instead of reading through 97 pages I will simply ask "What do I do?"

Sorry man, there is nothing you can do. Right now, Microsoft is telling us to go -blam!- ourselves and cough up 100 bucks for the fix.

Man is this starting to piss me off.
