I feel the new Moderators are abusing their powers a bit, over the past week or so I've noticed a lot of stupid reasons to lock a thread or backlist someone, and it always seems to be done by a NEW moderator, look I'm not trying to start anything but I want to see if anyone else feels this way.

I would have to disagree. The new mods show more signs of activity, thats why you see them. Now excuse me, "You're interfering with my slow crawl towards infinity".

I like them. The extra manpower allows the rules to be applied more evenly. Before you used to be able to get away with stuff if you new when the mods were on. Now it seems like there is a mod on all the time.

If a thread turns into a flame fest and/or the question at the beginning of the thread has been answered and people are just dawdling, then I'll lock it. Because there's no more point in it being there after the question has been answered, and when people start talking about pizza. Also, if it has been posted in the wrong forum, and there are no replies, I usually just PM the member who posted it and then delete the thread.

And I think every blacklisting I've done is justified.

5 pages of feeling this way.

It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech. It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who has given us the freedom to demonstrate. It is the soldier, not the lawyer, who has given us the right to a fair trial. I have to agree with Chicken Man. But I am glad they are here. And its not all the new ones, just a few.

Didn't we just discuss this? With all Mods, new and old, stating that what the new Mods did were right? If you look down at the locked thread you will see a fine arguement about it.

  • 09.27.2005 6:26 PM PDT

They're doing just fine.

Obviously you won't agree with them all the time, and obviously they're going to make the occassional mistake (especially since they're still becoming accustomed to mod-dom), but I wouldn't say that they were abusing their powers.

haha i think this is one reason why they close or delete the threads. I think they are doing fine, they are always active and are always there when needed the most. That is what counts.

Just because you disagree with the moderators and some members, doesn't mean you have to proclaim it. You're obviously someone who defies authority. Probably because you think how the other person (that is wrong) feels. I'm sorry, but the creator of this thread is wrong. Most of the new moderators are active within the b.net forums daily, and they do a great job of moderating. They may say something witty at the end of their post, but they are just enforcing the rules of this site.

Please tell me that my post doesn't describe this "army" below":

The new moderators are actually moderating more than the old ones, so it makes sense that you would see them more.

He's got you there. It's like the old mods have taken a back seat for a few weeks. :P

Just give them time and they will get better.

  • 09.27.2005 11:56 PM PDT

If people would take the time to look at the rules and forum descriptions prior to creating a thread, there wouldn't be many lock posts at all. Don't blame us for people not paying attention.

I disagree, he new moderators are doing a good job, as said, they are even more active then the old once. This isn't anything new, new mods will always feel the need to show that they are worthy of their position, even though being picked to be one should be enough.

If you're blacklisted by a (new) mod, sit it through and get over it. It was YOU who did something wrong, and just because an older mod didn't blacklist you doesn't mean you don't deserve it.

Now let go of your mom, I miss her.

I feel the new Moderators are using their powers. Over the past week or so I've noticed a lot of locked stupid threads and blacklisted spammers and it always seems to be done by a NEW moderator. Look, I'm not trying to start anything but I want to see if anyone else feels this way.

Of course, I disagree that it's always done by new moderators; the "old" moderators are working on it too.

I have made a special effort to make the process visible in the hopes that more people would understand what's going on and then know what is unacceptable and why. The side effect is that it is more noticable than the "ninja-stealth" used by the veterans. I'm willing to take the heat if it ends up effective; but if it's a waste then I'll go back to the quiet "thread-slaying in the dark" approach.

Are we perfect? No, of course not. But I'm hoping that we're doing better than before at denying the forum-thugs their "rights" to slander, defraud, and offend others and to help keep some semblance of organisation in this 5+ million thread forum.

-- Steve thinks that, if he was going to abuse his powers, he'd have squashed a lot more anti-Bungie rants and banned a LOT more people for merely being annoying.

One thing I hate is people sucking-up to Mods (i.e. starting threads like *Wonderful Job Moddies! All that spam was making me feel bad!).

But the latest wave of Mods are ok. All except one who I won't mention, and he has no idea who I am (and my reason is personal). But still, all of them are cool. If they want to be sarcastic bastards, then so be it. They've earned it. What if they're being over-sarcastic? Do it right back to them! (don't be an arsehole though). Mods don't work for Bungie at all, remember that. One thing I hate is when people do suck up to them. I can't stand it. And it's usually because people think they're Bungie Employees. They're not. They're sad bastards like you and me, who (used to!) enjoy playing games on Live etc. So give them a break.

I find that if you meet one of them on Live, calling them geeks makes them go quiet lol (or in Yoozel's case, corpse-hump the -blam!- out of him!!).

Nah, they're good, but people should remember they're just like everybody else. Just trusted more.

It seems like you couldn't resist this tempting thread anyway. ;)

Anyway, I think that the word "abuse" is a bit to strong, even though some may disagree in the way the modders lock, ban etc. I don't really think that they're doing a bad job or abusing their "powers". I also do not think that the new mods are doing better or worse than the old ones, but they are more active indeed..

I just love that word indeed..
