exactly, "id say it weighs 15 pounds" now how are u so sure that it weighs that little considering the suit weighs a ton?

Zero117, you're stupid, all you did was compare humans to covenant, WHICH HUMANS DIDN'T KNOW ABOUT BEFORE THEY BUILT THEIR SHIPS, humans can't just build new things while a war is going on, and human technology rocks! We can reproduce way faster and we have AIs which covenant don't.

considering that only 1000 years ago from today we were hurling dead cows at castle walls and still smacking folks upside the head with a heavy spiked ball swinging from a chain i'd say that the technological advancements portrayed in the game may not seem SUPER FUTURISTIC but it's still fairly accurate without being stupidly over futuristic. you know like how that movie space oddyse (sp?) 2001 portrayed that people already had invented interplanitary space craft with Artifical intellegence that can kill folks. so here we are in 2004 and where is all this super space age stuff? where is it? huh? Dave....? Where are you dave?

to quote (more or less) from the book "The fall of Reach": "The suit had miniature fusion power Pack" That makes it sound small, not 500 pounds

Ok...That quote is refferring to the old Mjolnir. But when described his new armor it did say that its power pack was slightly bigger. 25 pounds tops. Happy? Oh, everyone, I checked the book...Mjolnir weighs about half a ton, well the old one, I doubt the new one would weigh any more than 1500 pounds (I think it weighs less though) .

"if its not broken dont fix it" if we did not know about the coveys tell it was to late to build new weapons which were currently designed for human to human warfare and efective at it, then WHY would we redisgn weapons we didn't have the need so we didn't bother.

Your stupidity amazes me...

Let's take a look at the Planet Reach. What was it's main purpose? A SHIPYARD!!

You mean to tell me that every single ship the Humans fought the Covenant with in space is over 30 years old??? OMG!!! LOL!!! Go read Fall of Reach one or two more times, and you'll see some brand new ships that came from Reach's shipyards.

Yes, they can build new ships while a war is going on. You really must not have read Fall of Reach very thoroughly, or you would know that Humans have been building more and more ships because the Covenant keep destroying them.

Dude, just go read Fall of Reach...

PS: One more thing, Ace, don't call me stupid when you have no idea what you're talking about.

shotguns today have a much longer effective range than shotguns in halo. so do assault rifles. everything else seems about right.

Shotguns are usually depicted in video games as being highly unaccurate at long ranges, when its actually the contrary to that in real life (hunting shotguns are highly accurate at medium to long ranges).

Come to think of it...I haven't seen a single shotgun in any video game that fires SLUGS instead of BUCKSHOT.

ok u say there is a "miniature fusion reactor" well the fusion reactor of the PoA in Halo: Combat Evolved took up an entire room! and im not talkin bedroom, im talkin auditorium sized room. smallness does not proportianally effect weight, its just really really compact that took up an area the size of a backpack. the density of metal (no matter what space-age alloy) has to be substansial to be able to harness the pressure of atoms coliding together to create energy (fusion). higher density equals higher weight, and i am completly doubtful of an entire fusion reactor (of which we do not have today) even if it is the size of an average backpack will weigh less than 100 pounds.

halo humans are the dumbest and most incopetent humans. 30 years of war and practically no major scientific advancement. The germans and russians in WWII fared better with fewer resources.

Ok...you are right about the whole density thing, but to acheive the pressure and heat neccesary to acheive nuclear fusion, magnetic fields would be used to contain and pressurize the plasma (consisting of Deuterium and Tritium, both isotopes of hydrogen). I am basing my assumtions on the precedent of fusion being performed within a Tokamak (if you want to figure out what the crap it is, research it yourself) , so unless something else is used, I still don't think it would weigh more than 25ish pounds, considering all the magnetic field units needed.

in rainbow 6: Rouge shield, you could choose between 2 types of shotguns and 3 types of ammo (buckshot, slugs, and rubber rounds). I don't know about the range issue, but it might be an effort to balance it out more.

I agree with Mister Chief. I seriously don't think you could condense the suit's reactor to 25 pounds. The Pillar's reactor is bigger than a house! I would say over half of the suit is dedicated to just the reactor. If you are correct, and the suit's reactor is only 25 pounds, then answer me this: Why haven't the Humans put shielding on their ships and out fitted each ship with a large naval plasma cannon like the seige weapon in Halo 2?

Also, why don't the Humans have plasma rifles? If I remember correctly, fusion is inherently hot, right? And if one sets of a hot fusion reaction one gets extreme, sun-type temperatures, correct? Well, I know extreme heat is a major factor in creating plasma... So wouldn't we be pretty close to plasma weapons? I think if we were that close, the Covie tech would have given us that last bit of info we needed to create plasma cannons, would it not? If I'm wrong, feel free to set me straight.

I think that Humanity's problem is that they don't know how to fight a space-based war. From the feeling I get in the books, the UNSC has had unchallenged authority for several hundred years. The small uprisings and skirmishes and rebellions, while violent, were no serious threat to the UNSC's dominance in space. In FoR, when they are going to pick up the original MJOLNIR armor, they seemed very suprised that a Covenant warship could survive a MAC, and even more suprised that it could survive a nuke. Humanity was very nieve in its supposed dominance in space. Even the creation of the Spartans shows that they were preparing for ground warfare, and never foresaw the possibility of major battles in space. I think that Humans were, and still are, ill-prepared to mount or defend against any offensive without a major overhaul of ship desiegn and space strategy.

Someone mentioned that we can't make plasma, and that the Tokamak is just a theory. Both of these asertions are wrong, however. Plasma is created everytime the Shuttle lands. Plasma TV's use real plamsa. It doesn't have to be extremely hot. Plasma is just ionized gas that has been stripped of all its electrons, I think. The simplist, and least elegant way to do this is simply to heat up the gas or pressurize it a lot, but there are other ways.
A working Tokamak's have been built at several US universities, like Princeton and Columbia. Howver, the electromagnets used to create and sustain the plasma needed for fusion are currently so inefficient, that the reactor consumes more power than it can produce.
