What is -blam!-

Blam was originally the codename for halo before the name halo was released to the world. Now it takes place of many profane words instead of displaying crude language in the forums.

Why isn’t “Noob” and other variations included on the list of profane words?

The rule that you can not use the word “Noob” in the forums was not originally set down by bungie web team staff. This is a moderator rule, and the moderators take care of it themselves.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Will there be a search feature added to this website in the near future?

A search feature is almost working, and the bungie.net web team has it set up, but they are not entirely pleased with how it performs, and they are looking into ways to improve it. The search feature is coming Soon™. Please be patient, the web team has their priorities, so don’t bug them about it, and please keep in mind that they are not obligated to providing this search feature for us.

What is this Spam filter that has been recently added to the forums?

The spam filter prevents massive spam attacks that consume multiple pages of forums and stops other types of spam too. You cannot post more than 7 topics per day, and you cannot post a topic within 5 minutes of posting a previous topic. You can’t reply within 30 seconds of posting a previous reply, yet there is no limit on how many replies you can make in a day.

What is the Karma system that is under the works?

The Karma system is a way of rating a user of bungie.net based on their contributions to the community. The karma system is in no way tied to rating people’s posts, it is based on users. The rating of users wouldn’t be shown to common members.

Will there ever be a post counter used at Bungie.net?

No. In general, post counters tend to encourage spam and meaningless posts. Although there is a spam filter in place, the post counter would result in some nasty forms of spam, and members yelling at each other over how many posts they have.

If I find a bug in Bungie.net, where can I tell someone about it?

If you find a bug, send a detailed email to [email]bnetbugs@microsoft.com[/email]. Or you can post your findings in The Septagon.

Where can I submit website suggestions for Bungie.net?

In general, you should post suggestions right here, in The Septagon. There are a few members of the bungie.net web team that check this website very frequently. Your post will probably be seen. If you feel that you want to talk directly with a member of the web team, try talking to Achronos or Ninja 0n Fire (their accounts are listed below).

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Can I have a custom avatar on these forums.

No. This would cause many problems with uploading avatars, preventing immature content and the likes. Because of this, custom avatars are given as a well valued prize to anyone who helps the Seventh Column drastically. You can change your avatar by picking which one you would like out of a list. While signed in, go to “My Settings” in the top tool bar, then click on “Avatar”, and there will be 4 pages of avatars listed to choose from. Once you select an avatar by clicking the bubble next to it, press “Modify Settings” to make the change.

Can I submit Avatars to Bungie?

Certainly! All avatars must be 90x90 pixels and it has to relate to bungie in some way. Avatars must also be less than 20kb (thanks Butane123!). Note that when you send your avatar, if the bungie web team approves of your avatar, it is theirs to use however they want to. If it becomes approved, it will be added to the list for all members to choose from and use. Also note that if you are using some one else’s artwork, you must have approval from them before submitting the avatar. All avatars can be sent to this email address. [email]7themes@bungie.com[/email]

What is a theme, and how do I go about making one?

In a group, there are several different “skins” or “looks” that you can set as your theme for your group. Currently, there are 10 themes you can choose from, but bungie is always looking for new stuff. There is a small .zip file called the themebuilder that will help you create a theme for groups. If you create a theme that is reviewed and approved, everyone will be allowed to pick your theme among the other choices already listed. As a prize for doing this amazingly long process, you will be allowed to have a custom avatar to use for bungie.net. For guidance on how to build your theme, check out this helpful guide to building themes. Also, you should look into this group for individual help from members who have created themes before.

What is the Seventh Column?

The seventh column is the network of groups and chapters that members can use with each other. More info can be found here.

What is a chapter?

A chapter is a place where members of bungie.net can come together and talk about anything within the Terms of Use and the Code of Conduct. A chapter is one of two types of user-created groups available at Bungie.net - the other is the Halo 2 clan. You can link your Halo 2 clan to your chapter in your chapter's settings if you wish your chapter to act as a homepage for your clan. Chapters have forums, news, and resources where you can share contact info, articles, links, and pretty much any information you think is important to your chapter.

How do I create and maintain a group that will be active?

As far as physically creating the group, you should start here. There are many places you can go to find help with creating groups. One group, blessed by bungie, is called Chapter Founders. Chapter Founders will is designed to help groups get off the ground. Check out the many articles they have about boosting activity in groups. For further help, check out their forums once you join the group.

For individual help on creating groups, you can contact the members of Team ACS for help. It looks like they are very full now. They’ll probably put you on some sort of waiting list.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What can I do to help out?

Do you know something bungie related that you want to tell the world? Submit a news article! Or maybe you can interview someone who contributes positively to the bungie community. Chapter Founders not only helps founders, but also encourages this sort of activity. Maybe you’re in a group that you’re really interested in – you could figure out a way to help that group grow. The bottom line is “be creative”.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Is there an IRC Chatroom where I can chat with bungie.net members

There are several. Our good friends at bungie.org have set up one place to chat. Most people use this chat server. More info on how to use IRC can be found here.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

How can I link my Gamertag to Bungie.net?

Make sure you have the following:
* A .NET passport account (make sure this is the same one you’re going to be using at Bungie.net)
* Xbox Live Account
* The ability to verify your identity on Xbox.com (Name of credit card holder on your Live account, last 4 digits of the credit card, phone number, postal code)

Now that you have that, go to this site to link your gamertag:
https://www.xbox.com/en-US/live/linkgamertag.htm

How can I make my Halo 2 emblem my avatar for bungie.net?

You need to link your gamertag and login to your bungie.net account. In the top navbar, go to “My Settings” then “Avatar” There should be an option to use your Halo 2 emblem as your avatar.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

How can I make links in my posts and stuff?

Text markup tags are:

[b]Bold[/b]

Italic
[i]Italic[/i]

Underline
[u]Underline[/u]

What are the Forum’s Rules?

Check out the forum rules and FAQ here and here. All members should read this in addition to the rules: Code of Conduct and Terms of use. Above all else, use common sense while posting.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(Big Thanks to Psyched for this section)
What is spam?

Spam is, basically, unnecessary posts that flood the forums with junk. It can be off-topic, stupid, offensive or generally unwanted material. You are not to spam.

What is flaming?

Flaming is the act of aggression unto others. It includes attacking, threatening, violent, unwelcoming or offensive posts. Flaming is disallowed.

What is bumping?

Bumping is when you deliberately post so your thread comes first on the topic list, in a manner that does not continue the (allowed) discussion and looks for attention. Often, bumping is when you post directly after your previous post on the same topic (AKA. Double post), but can be you helping others to bump. If you spam to bump your topic, that's even worse, so make sure you do not.

What are trolls?

Trolls are rule breakers. You are not to 'feed' them (provide them with material so they can continue their offensive acts, even a simple reply to a troll can cause this). Ignore, do not feed the trolls.

How do I deal with spam?

You don't. As in you don't respond in any way, form or fashion, instead you may report offensive posts to a moderator via Private Message, or e-mail the joint moderator address at [email]bnetmods@gmail.com[/email]. There's no point in spamming the forums with reports.
(Big thanks to Psyched for that entire section)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What Powers do Forum Ninjas have?

The moderators of bungie.net, or more commonly know as forum ninjas, moderate and keep the forums clean. They have more power than normal members. Forum Ninjas are able to edit posts, sticky posts, lock posts, and delete posts. They can also blacklist members, but they determine how long the blacklist is for. Master Forum Ninjas can do all of that plus they can post news on the bungie.net homepage. They can also edit blacklists, and permaban members.

Besides us members, who else are there out there?

The Current titles are: Bungie.net Overlord, Content Monkey, and a Community Guy, There is also:

Space saved for future adjustments

Hmm....It looks like it screwed up somehow...I'll fix it.

*EDIT* I fixed it, but not how I wanted to. Oh well.

*Edit2* Wow, I can't figure out what's wrong with these url tags, gah, there's so much stuff that's wrong in these posts

*Edit3* Ah, finally got it.

*Edit3.5* Apparently Reigi did something...

*Edit 4* Added Sawnose, bentllama, the 20kb avatar deal, and graciously added the spam section.

*Edit 5* added Jay

*Edit 6* added Weresnail, but mispelled sawnose. Can't fix it because of a really weird edit bug (not the same one as I've been having)

*Edit 7* Edited the question about the spam filter because the amount of times has changed.

Achronos, there was a weird bug putting spaces in two parts of my post. When I fixed one of them, the other would appear and screw my post up. When I fixed it, the original space would appear.

I think I might of fixed it now, but I'm not sure...

Ex, the space in link thing happens often. It sometimes happens when you submit, but will often happen when a post is edited. And since you have so many, it makes it much worse. But its been there a long time...

Nice job on the guide.

Stuck. Very nice work, Excalibur. I award you one slice of pizza cookie. You will receive another one when you give me back my car, you jerk.

I made a minor clarification - you talked about Groups and Chapters as though the words are interchangeable (they aren't, "Groups" is a broad term for "Clans" and "Chapters"). Not a big deal, but people should realise that this distinction exists.

I've dug up some of my previous "Forum FAQ"; most of it's covered here but the additions can be invaluable to newer members. It's more general Forum help (as opposed to Septagon-specific).

Bravo! Excellent thread Excalibur.

One thing you forgot (although it isn't really important because he is very inactive) is the Bungie.Net Superuser, sawnose. I think there may be another one too, I can't remember right now.

Here is a couple of questions.

How much are Forum Ninjas paid?

None.

What are double-posting and cross-posting? (not sure if you put this one up or not)

Double-posting is where you make two or more of the same thread in the same forum. That is considered spamming. Cross-posting is when you make two or more of the same thread, but in different forums. This is also spam. Please do not indulge in this activity.

What is the difference between a moderator and a forum ninja? (not sure if you put this one up or not)

There is none. They are two terms for the same thing. Many people refer to the as "mods" for short. Not to be confused with modders.
