Something smells fishy...

Personally, I think Halo 2 Vista was a pretty decent port. I have no complaints. I switched to Windows Vista immedietly when it came out so I had no issues with the Vista-exclusivity of Halo 2 Vista. That seems to be the number one complaint of the port.

As for not having any new features. Well, you all seem to like Halo 1 PC as a port. However, it also does not bring any new features besides the online multiplayer. In fact, it has less features than the Xbox version due to the lack of co-op campaign. Therefore, in terms of features, Halo 2 Vista matched Halo 1 PC. Halo 2 Vista also came with map editing tools similar to the ones in Halo Custom Edition.

I think you guys should realize that one of the primary reasons there's no Halo 3 or Halo: Reach for PC is because everyone hated Halo 2 Vista and because of the bad reception, Microsoft thought it wouldn't be worth it anymore to make another port.

I think we should be grateful that we even have a port of Halo 2 that is even LIVE-enabled with achievement support.

I doubt Microsoft cares whether or not people liked Halo 2 Vista. I doubt Microsoft would make decisions based on people's reception of a game. They probably mainly base it on sales. As in how many copies of the game were sold when it was released and how many sold since. And of course how much money can be made.

In my opinion Microsoft sees more benefit from producing Halo for XBOX only. I believe Microsoft sees more benefit in console gaming. The corporation probably has put a lot of money into the XBOX console and its games along with Kinect. Microsoft has invested a lot of time into XBOX gaming. Therefore, I believe, there's likely really no point in Microsoft developing more Halo games for PC.

Microsoft makes the Halo series exclusive to the XBOX so that means Microsoft makes most of the profit,if not all, from sales and such.

As for Bungie and the possibility of making Halo: Reach for PC: I say it won't happen. Bungie would've already created the game for PC by now or announced it. I believe Bungie has moved on.

Also, I can't be grateful for Halo 2 Vista because I have major fps issues when playing it. The game lags even though my computer well surpasses the game's system requirements. I think a good amount of other people have a similar issue.

I agree with you. However, Microsoft still ports some Xbox 360 exclusives to the PC's. For example, Fable 3 was ported to the PC pretty recently. They did skip Fable 2 though.

I don't think that has anything to do with releasing a PC port. For most people, Forge is good enough.

  • 06.19.2011 8:37 AM PDT

Although forge is easy to use and has good results, it really is quite poor in comparison to PC map editors.

They could still keep the name forge, but could add mouse supported GUI with standard windows menus. and extra fetures to bring it up to line with HEK.

Hey, I'm TetriS/r4v3n/Ryx. I've been modding Halo 1 pc since late 2008-2009, and playing Halo 2 Vista since summer of 2010. If you need any help with Halo 1 modding, just ask; I haven't modded in a while but I remember most of it.

I'm always up for a h2v game; message i4Ni TetriS and I'll get back to you.

What I meant by "reception" is whether or not people enjoyed the game. What I meant by "sales" was how many people purchased the game.

Generally, if people don't enjoy the game, it gets bad ratings, and people don't buy it. Thus bad sales.

Unfortunately, the HEK is too complicated for the average player to be able to pick up immedietly. It is somewhat complicated to use. Forge is supposed to be simplified so that anyone can use it.

Yeah. That's right. I don't have a 50 in H3. I never got Onyx in Reach. If a game sucks too much, I won't even bother trying for such trivial "accolades". Besides, I've done way more things that take far more skill and talent than anything that can be done in a video game.

I prefer the former. If you're not smart enough to use a real map editor, you're definitely not smart enough to make a good map.

If I'm not mistaken, doesn't making a good map require 3D modeling skills using software such as Avid's Autodesk or 3DS Max? I don't think it takes 3D modeling skills to make a good map. Besides, Forge is fun for more than just map editing.

Oh look, It's this idiot again
Dusk why do you even bother talking to these morons, You would probably have a better chance of convincing a brick wall that halo needs an sdk, And that halo 2 was a -blam!- port .

Well since this place is just as bad as when I left it due to generalheed and the rest of the idiots I'l be going now.

I agree with you that people who buy the game and don't enjoy it and give it bad ratings might influence other potential buyers to not buy the game. But I'm not sure how much customer ratings impact sales. I guess one could look that up. I'm sure it has a relatively large impact. So you're probably correct on this one.

I suspect that ratings by professional game reviewers would have a larger impact on sales. But what do I know?

Apparently your reading comprehension is not all there, I didn't say that it necessarily irritates me. It's just annoying.

*Head explodes*

ITT: PC elitists who get their panties in a bundle because they can't get any -blam!-.

You don't need to know the science behind what PC games need to request a port, nor do you also need to know how to use a "real" map editor to make a map (DusK). Calm down. I can feel your rage even when I leave the forums and go outside.

Fix'd!

And on the contrary, all of your points are controversial and vastly opinion based. And you cherry-pick all the issues with Halo 2 Vista. The Windows 7 compatibility problem only affects a small minority of people. Yet you take that one problem and blow it out of proportions. For the majority of people, Windows 7 runs Halo 2 Vista perfectly.

Halo 3

The correct term for map editing difficulty is that it's not "user friendly". You don't have to be smart to be able to learn. Like some dude said earlier, forge gives you perfectly fine results, so there is no reason to give yourself the hassle to tutor yourself in order to use PC editors.

So anyways bottom line is it'd be awesome if Halo 3 and Reach were ported to the PC with original forge (maybe Reach's forge).

LOL @ General Fail Troll.

offtopic:
HEK isn't user friendly in the least. Yes, it can do silly -blam!- that ends up being some pretty cool stuff, and you can make new nodes and import custom models, but in the end hpc is a lot more user friendly to mod. Esch works really good for most of what pc does, and CE mod tools require more experience in 3rd party tools. Most hpc modding can be done with gimp, esch, and sparkedit. CE requires some gmax 3d/a lot of conversion/tool which is annoying as hell.
ce takes longer to learn, and will only give you good results if you have a lot of experience in 3rd party software.

ontopic:
stop -blam!-ing about the little problems.
major ce issues:
1. lead lag with sniper
2. crappy netcode
3. bad collision models
4. no support for map sharing in-game
5. nat and icss hosted games can't be joined without an external app.
6. doesn't automatically port forward, has to be done manually on a lot of computers.

I'm tired. I can write a better list tomorrow if you continue.
