Why didn't the corvette hail, "long night of solace" before it got there

Jammed communications, then the comm center died.

And considering that the Corvette demolished the Savannah, the Super Carrier had no reason to believe based on direct line of sight that the Corvette was in any trouble considering that it destroyed the ship attacking it.

Of course. Why would they have any reason to believe it was in any trouble? It was only approaching the command vessel on an unscheduled refuelling run, with enemy craft on top of it, its main engines shot out and not responding to any hails.

Any competent commander of a flagship would have contacted the corvette's captain after the exchange to get a report on the recent action. Especially since it should have been clear from their own sensors that the corvette was badly damaged.

Um, if the corvette was heading back to the super carrier, I highly doubt it was an unscheduled refueling run. Besides, when the Corvette docked any boarders would be killed by sweeping security teams from the super carrier.

You put it on the refueling run in-game

We had to put it on a refueling run.

To me it was always a "Hit the controls to activate the final stages of the run, aka the refueling part."

You put it on the refueling run in-game

Schedule? You kill everyone on the bridge and send it straight to the supercarrier.

Activate the final stages of floating over to the supercarrier?

  • 06.12.2011 11:25 AM PDT

As I said, I doubt the corvette was randomly flying back to the supercarrier for no reason.

I'm in doubt gentlemen.

Isn't what learned from the Iris campaign conflicting with Halo Cryptum?

From the Iris episodes, I deduce the Forerunners had just recently discovered Earth and were amazed by Humanity that they considered us special.

Am I wrong here? Why were they acting so surprised and considering us "special" when they already knew our history?

They re-discovered it. Sort of. Like the Precursors.

I think she was talking about modern humanity not the planet itself.

I agree. It is sad. There's no good reason they couldn't have just kept everything consistent.

And people who say "The games are canon and can overwrite the other stuff" are missing the point. Why not just have it all fit? It wouldn't have been that difficult.

Because we don't want to play a retelling story of tFoR and First Strike.

I was disappointed at first by Reach because I was excited to play the story in the books... Which is by far a LOT better then the -blam!- shown in-game. It had so much potential. Reach was supposed to be the military stronghold of the UNSC and the Spartan's home. I dont see any of this in game. Noble-1 seems like the only Spartan on the planet and the UNSC engage with a bunch of frigate when theres a whole fleet of ship and Mac-Gun out there...

Brains beats brawn get used to it

Fear the Red Comet

Variety is the spice of life.
Long live games.
Death to all fanboys.

My understanding of Long Night of Solace was that the Corvette was already on a refueling run with the Super Carrier. You intercept it. Plant the slipspace bomb, then send it back on its merry way. I believe the reason why you had to "manually" press the button to send it to the Super Carrier was because you've just slaughtered the bridge crew that was already doing the navigating well on their own.

If you kill the people who were supposed to either initiate the final automated docking procedure before they could do it or commit to doing the process manually, then who's going to press that button or make the correct turns to line up with the docking slot?

  • 06.12.2011 2:46 PM PDT

I think that the invasion of Reach in the game was heavily downplayed. I didn't see that many covenant or unsc ships throughout the game.

If we could do it half-way there, so could they.
