I hope these answers were of good use. Im sorry if they were said before but I can't look through 100 pages of silly questions. When you have a universe as large and vast as the Halo Universe you are going to get contradictions. Please enjoy Reach and enjoy your novels. The Fall of Reach may have had some statements/paragraphs overidden but for the most part the book is still canon and saying otherwise is ignorant. Read, Play, Live and the canon is still just fine.

Peace and Love Bungie

You can't just ask us to forget and move on, then "enjoy" the Reach as if errors never existed.

Actually, teleportation has been used by the Covenant before in the Halo games -- Remember the Prophet of Regret? His throne had teleportation abilities

To add to the canon breaking about the Pillar of Autumn, In one of the books(I believe The Fall of Reach or The Flood) that the Pillar of Autumn was not designed to be affected by gravity and hence forth never enter the atmosphere of a planet because when Captain Keyes crashes the PoA on Installation 04, I believe Cortana says something about how gravity caused a lot of damage to the ship too or soemthing like that.

It's not the same to land with heavy damage from Plasma Salvo in a frantic attempt to get away from attackers than to land without no damage at all, in a more controlled way, y'know?

We've been over this. His first concern is whether or the PoA will survive the landing due to it not being designed for atmospheric operation, not the damage the ship has taken. I'm pretty sure if his first concern was the atmosphere that the ship probably wouldn't have a great landing regardless of any damage it took.

Those were the words I was looking for. Haha.

I must point out. "Atmospheric operation" does not mean landing or taking off.

Also, I may be wrong about this, somebody with easy access to the book check (I found out I forgot about loaning the original trilogy to a friend.) didn't they plot in a landing zone and start the PoA on a landing sequence?

I just re-watched the scene in the bridge of the Autumn, Keyes doesn't seem to mind the fact that the ship is not fit for atmosphere and insists on landing it on his own several times.
He also requests Cortana to upload the emergency landing sequence to his neural implants, so I don't see why a ship unfit for atmosphere would have a landing sequence.

Obviously you two haven't read the novel then. Cause in the novel he states this concern INTERNALLY. But I guess none of you will take the time to read back several pages and see where I quoted Halo: The Flood and cited a page number.

And in regards to this, none of you have told me why he is more concerned about its atmospheric rating than the current condition of the ship in terms of it landing on Halo. You all just correct me on the words "atmospheric operation" without realizing the true point: the FACT he is more concerned with the atmosphere than the ship's damage.

Maybe because they were not landing in a situation it would be done normally in.

We are all going to get banned aren't we?

ships having landing gear is similar to boats having lifeboats. you have it whether you need them or not, they are standard, so i really wouldn't get excited over that.

Well yes, but what ship has landing gear but no method to use it? If the ship was designed to never, ever go into atmosphere while in use, why have landing gear and a landing sequence at all?

When we say "never suppose to go into atmosphere" we are talking about scenarios like it landing all calm and peacefully such as reach; not a crash landing like halo CE.

the ships are only 15 years old, so they could have very well be built and then realized how difficult it is for them to be used in atmosphere. though that isn't a logic trail the UNSC normally follows.

He was actually hoping it WOULDN'T survive in terms of the novel.

red flames.....blue flames, assault rifle's and star's. which is better what has been earned or what has been given?

wether is is about life's desicions or about a simple game it's what makes us who we really are

biggest error? having the black (johnson?) dude from halo one die....just to come back in the next mission! "he's a demon!"

and for him to be hugging an elite in the legendary cutscene and then somehow opping up on a pelican that somehow survived the uber humungous explosion.

-_-

amen

Every thing that happens in the games is what happened. The games were made before the books right? (Right? idk) The games are cannon.

Halo: The Fall of Reach was published about two weeks before the first Halo game was released.

Woah...that just happened...again !

I won't usually suggest believing everything on Halopedia but I checked out the Fall of Reach page and they set up a pretty nice timeline. Everything makes sense and they've taken a pretty good guess as to what happened to the Pillar of Autumn.
Its worth a look.
