I understand nothing because my life is a conspiracy.

I can do this. I believe . . .

Reach wasn't invaded on July 24th, the first attacks started then.

What they meant by "Fell in one day"is when Reach started to fall, it fell in one day. The UNSC kept their ground, with a little mistakes that were recovered, until August 30th.

Carter, Jun, and Emile survived the operation because they were never in it. The squads were made up of three, right? Wasn't there a squad made up of Jane, Shane, and Robert? So maybe Carter, Jun, and Emile were all in the same squad and pulled out last minute by ONI. They could have messed up with the casualty counts.

With the Cole Protocol, the UNSC probably decided not to wipe the info until the brink of defeat. They could have also thought they would win soon.

They could have excepted a few older kids who were in great physical condition.

MAC Cannons could have been launched later.

The Pillar of Autumn went to Reach when Chief was in Gamma Station. They snuck out before Chief was done.

I tried my best Bungie.

honestly the mods at 343 have the intelligence level of immortal josh, so don't pay attention to them.

What I don't understand is 343's refusal to address any of the canon concerns.

Of all the popular scifi franchises that I've known, Halo is quite possibly the worst when it comes to feedback, especially when it comes to the concern of canon rap3.

Back then, before the game, even Eric Nylund would on some occasions be very generous and answered questions on the story.

But now, he's practically forbidden to answer any questions about Halo's story, because you know, don't bite the hand that feeds you.

It's funny though, I recall reading that Nylund and Bungie disagreed on what was the correct depiction about Reach, but he obviously got overruled and was forced to write that terrible Journal. And so to this day, he denies responsibility for it anymore.

But regarding your comments about mods, I am inclined to agree somewhat. For the most part, there really are no mods. There are only your basic admins who are community directors, but basically know jack-sh1t about lore and lack critical reading comprehension. I don't blame them, it's not their job to give intelligent answers. And then there's admins who really have control over the canon, but don't count on for any responses to them. And yet oddly, instead of posting on their own forums, they post mostly on Bungie.org and neogaf. That's bullsh1t in my opinion. And then there are your sycophants, recruited from Bungie.org, whose basic duty as "community leaders" are to defend against any criticism of 343.

But you what, I look forward to Karen Traviss. She's well known for arguing with the fanbase and outrightly demonizing them.
But at least she gives feedback, and so does Bear.

I wondered why there were no MACs (R.I.P. Jorge)

  • 07.18.2011 6:09 PM PDT

Berzerk Gnome

As for the oh so concerning question about the MAC guns you are forgetting that when you are viewing the planet REACH during the space missions you are only viewing a small section of the outer atmosphere so other UNSC ships and MACs are not going to be visable. Most of you are assuming that everything should be viewable from your small perspective on that side of the planet. For example when astronauts are in orbit above earth they cant see every satellite in orbit, most of you are just blind to the scale of ships as compared to planets.
Also most of the MACs could have been taken out easily remember at the start of Halo 2 when boarding parties took out all of Earths MAC defenses at the drop of a hat.

343 knows that bungie -blam!- up be they won't outright say it since it is bungie and halo.

And i love karen and bear for their writing, experience, and them not being afraid to put people in their place.

Not sure if the OP is edited anymore o-o But in ODST on Alpha Site it shows a timeline for Reach going back to 7/24 oddly enough.

  • 07.20.2011 8:36 PM PDT

you also forgot that in Halo: The Fall of Reach it says that elites were not encountered prior to the Fall of reach this was apparently abbandoned as canon in recent sources who state elites were encounterred as early as 2525

Also in Halo First Strike it is stated that humans first encountered brutes in 2552 aboard the Heirophant space station however again this is totally abandoned in newer sources such as halo contact harvest which state brutes were part of first contact between the covenant and the UNSC

  • 07.20.2011 10:19 PM PDT

Everybody just calm down have some fun. Talk some trash play some Halo.

I hate those errors now little kids who get into the game will think that the games follow the whole story arc.

the elites encountered has been changed for years- they saw limited action against elites

That was the first time the spartans saw brutes, not humans.

It is possible however that Carter, Jun, and Emile were taken out of Alpha company before Operation: Prometheus began. Like Noble Six he was taken out of Beta company before Operation:Torpedo.

Hi, person viewing my profile! I am an experienced Halo player and have been playing for seven years now. I also enjoy Forging occasionally! I like Halo!

Jeez, that's a lot of errors.
I approve!

"I'm not going in there with Too Jedi"

Anyone else wish that the word 'canon' never existed.

I do.

  • 07.21.2011 2:06 PM PDT

The problem is that you guys are looking at two different sources, the games AND the books. The books as far as I know were NOT written by bungie where as the games were, this means that between the two of them there are going to be conflicting ideas as to what happened and when. This is because different authors have different perceptions as to what goes on and the time frames in which events can happen.

The ONLY way for the story to be 100% correct in the time line is to look at Either the books OR the games NOT BOTH.

For example: a lot of films based on books cut out a lot of detail or change those details completely.

I rest my case.

Staten who handles story elements for halo wrote contact harvest. He also clearly said The books are, for better or worse, part of the canon. In the future we may choose to revise or flat-out ignore some of the less appealing ideas (Johnson's biological immunity to the Flood, for example), but folks should treat them as defining elements of the Halo universe.

And thus they changed johnson being immune to "he got lucky and fought his way out" thus if they don't like something they would change it.

Now all of the original books have been remade yea the major story has not. SO thus bungie and then 343 must find them to be fine or else they would be changed.

Not to mention that bungie/343 watch the authors when they right the books and give them clear things that need to happen or need to be avoided. if you even watched any material with the writes talking they clearly say "they told me a could do what ever long as this this and this happened and this didn't happen".

Books and games are on level with each other canonwise until 343 comes out and says otherwise

Your point being?

It doesn't matter when TFoR came, the game was created long before the book, even if it was released second, and is what is the basis for Halo's vast story.

I wouldn't say that due to the fact halo was suppose to be a one time thing.

Now look at TFoR and look at CE, which one alone gave more insight the the halo universe? i am going to have to say TFoR, so if we were only given those two things the depth would come from the book not the game.

The "only" thing the game introduced were forerunners and flood, the book pretty much set up the entire universent

Thanks for laying these out. The only thing that doesn't have a possible explanation is the ages of the Spartans in Reach. Everything else has a very possible and reasonable explanation to how the Halo: Reach story played out. Just need a little imagination.

cryo sleep. and we shouldn't "imagine" how things happen, it is bungies job to tell us.

If we are to "imagine" that is implying that we create canon.

How lazy and infantile a statement is that? The success of story telling isn't in handwrapping the entire story for the audience. Its allowing the audience to fill in the gaps on their own. To engage the story and become a fluid part of the storytelling process. Only an amatuer would approach storytelling with the intent of covering every nook and cranny and spoon-feeding the audience.
