GROSSMAN: Do you think of the Culture as a utopia? Would you live in it, if you could?

BANKS: Good grief yes, to both! What's not to like? ...Well, unless you're actually a fascist or a power junkie or sincerely believe that money rather than happiness is what really matters in life. I like my theory that the spires are modular, and they were all ferried down by one busy Phantom.

And we're not saying the SuperCarrier "Teleported", we are trying to work out how it exited SlipSpace, emitted A LOT of radiation in the form of heat or visible spectrum light, and the UNSC's most heavily fortified Military planet's sensors and relay outposts missed it.

A way I can think of is that it exited Slipspace in deep space around the planet, and then cloaked it's way in, had a few Phantoms ferry the spires down, while the SC emits an EM Sensor Spoofer, while deploying stealth corvettes to drop off troops in tactical locations.

@Killer, no, we did not see the entirety of the corvette, so there MAY have been a huge storage area in the lower decks, but now that the spires have been confirmed to be 502 ft tall ish, that's half the length of the corvette, so even if it could carry a spire, it would only be able to carry one, and is more easily detectable by UNSC sensors. Hence my Phantom theory.

I don't understand how a phantom can carry a spire down??...Can you explain that please?

If the spires are modular, then one Phantom with some kind of crane/gravity assist thing can carry the parts down, does that make more sense?

(random yet funny signature goes here)

Ohhhh. So you're saying that the Spires aren't one solid object, but instead are carried in piece by piece and assembled planet side in the same way that the covenant AA guns are assembled? Gotcha. That is a more probable theory and could explain some.

So like the carrier came in too far out of system to be spotted, coasted in system, then cloaked and hid while stealth phantoms started bringing in the spire pieces.

Essentially, yes, you explained it better, though it would take a while to assemble an array, so it brings up the question: Why were Phantoms unnoticed? Even if cloaked they would have seen something on the satellites that shows some big ass spires being built...

Well where would the Phantoms be bringing the parts from? A corvette seems reasonable, it's one of the smaller ships, that can be capable of carrying a spire and slipping through the defense grid.

The Phantoms would be coming from the Super Carrier as it drifted in-system. I still don't think it's feasible that a corvette can go unnoticed...

I'm more interested in 343s reaction. Will Frankie be a coward or tell Jared Lehto to -blam!- off.

Who's Jared Lehto?

Don't you mean Marcus Lehto?

Sorry, yes Lehto. Jared and Lehto appear so often from Halo, I just mix them up.

Jared Lehto is 30 Seconds to Mars' lead singer, and it's an easy mix up.

just in case no one mentioned it, the Mark V helmet's description in Reach said it was manufactured in 2551, when it really was manufactured in 2542.

Error: Alpha Company was wiped out completely during Operation: PROMETHEUS in 2537. Carter, Emile, and Jun should not be alive.

Proof: Halo: Ghosts of Onyx goes into quite a bit of detail on Operation: PROMETHEUS. Spartan-III Alpha Company (comprised of 300 Spartans) were sent to K7-49 on a mission to destroy plasma reactors the Covenant were using to liquefy metallurgical components.

The operation was a success, but it is explicitly stated that it cost the lives of every Spartan-III on the asteroid because they got cut off from their Calypso-class Exfiltration crafts and completely lost their unit cohesion.

Halo Reach chooses to ignore this. Carter (A-259), Emile (A-239), and Jun (A-266) are a part of Noble Team when they should have been dead years ago; Bungie have given us no explanation on how they escaped at all.

Sources:
- Ghosts of Onyx, page 83-87.
- Halo Reach

This is the stuff that pisses me off. NOT ALL ALPHA SPARTAN-IIIs WERE ON K7-49. It is pretty obvious.

Same goes for Beta. Not everyone died in one operation.

Why do I think that? Why would the UNSC have all of their Spartans, their best soldiers, in one place and one time so they all can die. It was a suicide mission, but why have everyone there.

Because if the spartans failed that mission, then billions of lives would have been lost, much sooner than they would be lost if the spartans succeeded. The Spartan III missions were supposed to ALL be that way. So high risk that that failure was never an option. They had to ensure victory so they sent entire companies on one mission.

I believe Dr. Halsey's Journal talks about The training of the three Spartan Classes I think Carters Group was actually around 11 years old?

"Error: Carter, Emile, and Jun's age.
Carter is born in 2520. He was 11 years old when Alpha Company began their training. This puts him 5 years above the previously stated age, and it makes no sense at all. Why would they have an 11 year old on the same training regime as a 4 year old? It's too large of a difference, and it's an error that can be avoiding by simply changing his birthdate. This same thing goes for Emile and Jun, who are older than 6 years old at Alpha training.

Proof: Page 69(I'm doing this by memory, I may be wrong.) of Ghosts of Oynx states that all of Alpha Company was comprised of 4, 5, and 6 year old children that he was going to have to forge into the best warriors humanity has ever seen.

Source: Ghosts of Oynx, page 69."

It's called Eric Nylund covering Bungie's dumbass mistake.

Just another example how Nylund was mocked and fooled.

We've come up with the idea that cryosleep is the reason for the error, biologically he was 5 or 6 when he began training but technically he was 11.

Yeah, Cryo can really screw with your age perceptions...

And where's Caboose and/or Joker? They haven't been here in a while... Nor for that matter has JDYeash MkII. Where are they all?

Anyway, back to the Super Carrier/Spire issue. The SC could have exited Slipspace on the edge of the system, or even in deep space, then drifted in, while deploying stealthed Phantoms to drop off the spire components, and using the Stealth Corvettes escort that came with it to spread out and take up strategic positions around Reach. But that is still rather unfeasible and uses a lot of handwavium...

I've read every post, I just don't really have anything to input. I've brought the errors to light, and now the community can try and justify Bungie's mistakes for them, or realize that these errors CANNOT be explained, and wait for Bungie to address their fans for once, and not just the casuals that muck up the Reach forum.

  • 10.18.2010 6:19 AM PDT

Casuals? I thought my attempt to cobble together as much of the book and game as possible was pretty good.
