The MAC guns are probably strewn about the space wreckage you see in the distance during LNos.

Every SMAC was present on August 30th. That's why the generators were so important. No generators were lost before hand.

To to sound like a jerk, but none of that is possible. It would destroy what we know about the Covenant, not to mention they could have screwed Earth without a casualty.

Exactly, but it is now in there. Kat mentions the Carrier being cloaked - in the cutscene right after Tip of the Spear.

The shield towers are also "Teleportation conduits" to that ship.

The tower that you rig in the third level is some sort of blackout tower - a jammer, that hid the ship , as well as the entire Covenant army, from radar.

A Supercarrier is not something you can keep quiet.
I didn't notice it until it decloaked.

See, the thing about that, how does the Covenant manage to construct all those cloaking towers without first having the material transported down by the superior carrier. And how does the Supercarrier manage to get into orbit and out of slip space without being detected/shot down by the numerous MAC platforms and other early detection technology.

I can't understand that escape pod having a Slipspace drive. The power required to actually juice the thing would cause the escape pod to be huge, and totally unlike an escape pod, rather just a really small Frigate. It would also have to have the hell reinforced out of it.
Not really - since an escape pod is a very small object, and this slipspace drive is obviously going to be very small with it, it only needs to open a tiny hole into slipspace. As such, it needs to be nowhere near as powerful. It seems to run off a capacitor, like Black-Cat Exfiltration craft (GoO Prologue), because they only had enough fuel for one more jump. This could refer to regular fuel, or charge for SS.

As for the actual stresses of leaving slipspace, I don't believe that it has anything to do with deacceleration. The ship isn't actually going any faster than it normally does, its just travelling through folded space. What could cause the stresses is simply transitioning from 11+- dimensional space to our regular 3 dimensional space, or could be the transition of leaving the electromagnetic bubble that ships wrap themselves in during a slipspace voyage. It's not easy for any of us to think about this - to be fair, the ship does have an effective speed of 1.3 ly/day (was once stated on halopedia, now taken down but still the only figure we ever had), and upon exiting the slipstream has a speed of whatever they normally achieve. Though since SF is compressed compared to normal space, the speed is only an effective, and would still be normal speed.

Also, in the original post of mine I was suggesting that the Banshees, Seraphs and Phantoms didn't have slipspace drives onboard, but that they were released from Frigates/Cruisers/Whatevers in Slipspace and they transitioned once they left the electromagnetic bubble their 'home ship' was generating. Similar to Blue Team leaving Ascendent Justice/Gettysburg to convene with the Unyeilding Hierophant in their Spirit dropship.Blue Team's Spirit was massively reinforced, and they stated that only the reinforcements were visible. The ship had shaken itself apart from resonances by leaving the 'stream in an unstable fashion. I'd say more, but I feel a theory coming on.

Are you going to add to the list Halsey's interaction with Noble Team? The fact that when she went digging through Ackerson's files under the Castle base was the first time she had an inkling they existed, but in the game she talks to them like she has known all along?

No she doesn't. She knows Jorge, who is a S-II. If you go back to the cutscene, she isn't very nice to the rest of Noble.

  • 09.17.2010 3:53 PM PDT

I thought it was a little odd of the Covenant to send clearly drunken Elites to take out Noble Six at the end of Lone Wolf. The guy's dying and he still manages to beat back ten of them, who all charge at him as if they've been hitting the bottle.

Glassing a planet must be stressful work.

;)

In all seriousness, I was a little disappointed at the canon breaches in Halo: Reach.

She's not exactly happy to see Jorge either. She seems... almost disappointed in Jorge. Cuts him off when he wants to speak, and is upset at the additions he's made to 'her' armour, for some reason. Kept him alive, for a while.

Providence, my brother was just now watching that cutscene.
Halsey says "Primary objective? Are you a puppet or a Spartan?"

Anyway, yeah, it's not a warm welcoming.

Asking that considering John's training is rich coming from Halsey.

Read the bottom of page 66 of TFOR. When the sergeant orders John to fight the ODSTs, he thinks "Good. A commanding officer, and new orders. The men were now targets, and this was an excercise." or WTTE.

It is almost scary, the blind faith he puts in the orders of a superior officer, and the way he tries to categorise the ODST when they first start getting pushy on page 65/66.

And Halsey's got the nerve to have a go at Carter for following orders to the letter? 117 killed 3 of 4 ODST that day. Because he was ordered to.
When Mendez tells him he 'engaged and neutralised a thread - your actions seem to have answered your question', he just accepts that as gospel.

not sure if I missed something, but I thought halsey didn't know about spatan-3s until way into ghost of onyx when she took kelly there and the shield world incident occurred.it was also mentioned many times that halsey knows ALL of her spartans just from their armor.so, how is there wasnt any kind of questions regarding carter, jun, emile, and 6?

Oh come now, be nice. He's a Spartan, giving his all on his last legs of life. He's supposed to be BAMF and run down a bunch of Elites whilst out-numbered. It's an integral part of the Spartan theme and game.

As for the canon issues, read Halsey's journal. More than once. Pay close attention to her wording and details she gives. It won't answer all your questions, but it definitely cleans up this mess quite a bit.

Short definition of a SPARTAN, as told by Kurt-051:
Put them in an impossible situation, and maybe they'll surprise us.
Badassery to the end, Kurt, 6, Emile and Will. RIP, hard nuts.

I just tried to enjoy the heroic last stand, blaze of glory moment. And I did. I'm not going to let myself ruin that part of the game, because it was badass and sweet.

I thought it was dumb that she asked "what have you done to my armor?" considering that it was her (read: Journal) that wanted to have constant upgrades to MJOLNIR, but was told for financial reasons that she had to do it in a "Mark" series. And if it wasn't her designing those pieces....?

Also a bit weird that she seems to 'not like' Noble team at all. Her reaction upon meeting Gamma company at Onyx later on is almost the polar opposite; maturnal and affectionate (although she can't show it).

Maybe that WAS why she acted that way here, so as not to show her actual emotions... Also, KIND OF in a stressful situation there. As for the armor thing, I think that was more her being cordial/humorous/motherly with Jorge. As though he went and modifies HER armor without her permission.

Look, most of you don't even understand what you are complaining about.

You don't know the canon unless you have read Halseys journal

So read the freakin' journal.

Don't worry, you're still your mom's favorite Bnet member.

The books are wrong, the games are right. Sorry to break it to you but when people think HALO they think VIDEO GAME not book. Game canon clearly takes power over book canon. Besides, from what you said, I like the game canon better anyway.

Stop being an idiot. The journal does little to fix inconsistencies. If you bothered reading the thread, you'd realize how uninformed you are.

If you had bothered reading this thread, you would have seen my other post describing which parts of the canon are fixed.
And you would have read that I still admit there are inconsistencies.
Please think before you type.

  • 09.17.2010 11:13 PM PDT

And yet you keep telling me to read a journal as if proclaiming it solves all the issues. You need to read your own crap.

I don't know if he's telling YOU to read the journal before complaining so much as the people who KEEP POSTING EVERYWHERE tha Halsey didn't know about the Spartan 3 project yet and this makes no sense because of that, when the journal makes it clear she indeed DOESN'T know about SIII's and had figured ONI had some competing Spartan type programs going on and that she assumes this is probably where they came from. THOSE people need to stop posting that and read the journal.(which then actually makes her very VERY drastic actions in the books, after only really reading a small bit about what COULD be another Spartan project, a little more believable.(hey, the game actually SUPPORTS the book somewhere!) If she had seen these new Spartans and knew the project was actually going, it gives a little more justification for her going so far as to steal a ship and kidnap a Spartan II in the book based just on some files she read about something that was hard to be certain about. Having seen those Spartans on Reach, she has prior confirmation to the SIII program she then reads about)

I don't see what is wrong with the Autumn being planetside. Just because it is docked doesn't mean that it was there the whole battle, and when it buggers off we don't see it entering slipspace.
