I feel that this thread is no longer moving forward, but more in a twisted circle, I have found out the ?? classified deaths are for crashing in the space mission, but I feel that we can start moving forward if we had more people look through the thread before posting to see if what they found has already been discovered. Next has anyone looked through the buildings that you can land on in "New Alexandria" (Not entirely sure if I spelt it right but you should know which mission it is) that mission is probably the one we need several expeditions on just because it is easy to over look areas on that.
There is progress, it's just difficult to find it all. I'm very invested in the Skull Kills/Deaths in campaign. Even if those turn out to not be any significant secret, we don't know how it works, so it needs investigation.
I was thinking about this in class today, and I think I have a proposal as to what the skulls mean.
Now the "?" kill says its kills by the guardians. Strangely I have 17 KILLS with the "?" and only 1 death, so I'm not sure what is defined by a guardian kill. There's even the "??" classified section for really unexplained things.
But more importantly, the weapon with the picture of the skull says "Classified" and the description reads "Everybody has secrets". If the skull kills were simply strange, unexplained, or freak accident kills, they could easily fall under the "??" category, or the "Collision Damage" or "Explosion" category. But there is this other, very specific category with no real definable purpose.
Because of the description, I think its based around enemy secrets. We know that you get a skull KILL if you take down the invisible elite with the data pad. That enemy had a secret, and you got it by killing him. We've also had skull DEATHS, so far unexplained.
I think that you get a skull kill if you kill an enemy with a secret, and you get a skull death if you get killed BY an enemy with a secret. It could be a system Bungie put in there to help us find these abstract secrets.
If this is the case, we've had 3 confirmed skull DEATHS on Lone Wolf, and if the same enemy is killing us every time, he could possess some sort of secret. If we can find the enemy causing the skull deaths, we could investigate. Another good idea would be to see if you can get the invisible elite to kill you and thus get a skull DEATH. Though I don't know if he attacks at all.
I can also confirm the fake Bob at the beginning of ONI Sword Base does not contribute towards skull deaths or kills, and he doesn't contain any sort of secret.
So ultimately, I would suggest everyone check your online stats, find the level you got a skull death/kill on, and lets see if we can confirm what causes them.
