I regularly encounter a Bob on Winter Contingency when I speedrun the mission on Heroic. He's towards the end of the jeep driving section: skip the optional combat zone where a datapad is hidden and continue driving. When you arrive to a building where 3 or 4 grunts are, drive past it, and continue speeding. In the last straight section, most of the time there's a Bob running, and I splatter him.

>>Rendered video<<

May or may not be a new one. Very easily replicable nonetheless; just load up rally point alpha on heroic, take the jeep and rush.

Speaking of missions,on nightfall i have seen a bob at the point where you find the local militia being attacked by the covenant.I saw him on different difficulties on normal i found him standing on the wood planks in the middle of the area and today went for nightfall challenge, found him about 30-45 seconds after the checkpointrunning in the mist of the other covies.Theory:this bob does different things on different difficulties.Note:after i first found the bob i played something else i went back and the bob was not there, even on the same and different difficulties so this bob is what i call a 'Shy Bob'.hope this helps

  • 10.17.2010 2:32 PM PDT

Dang, I remember on Legendary on Nightfall, I found a bob after the very first major attack. (not the single elite and two grunts) He's hanging out by the garage door way in the back with a forklift in it.

Sorry for the double post, but I've seen this one as well.

In regards to the Legendary Eagle, look at this video:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pa5VDrj98Xs

Someone posted the transcript of the talking below the video, but they were wrong.

"Did we EVER get the eagle that was going to come down and land the helmet?"

"That WAS only on legendary."

"What WAS gonna happen on that [unknown]."

[Laughter]

"Is it a slug?"

"[Chuckles] Yeah."

"Wait you WERE actually gonna' have a bird land on the helmet?"

"Yeah."

Please edit your post removing the eagle part.

All the cap/bolded words are in PAST TENSE.

I found a Bob in a different place on Nightfall

When you encounter the 4 civilians fighting it out, he was inside the first 'house' to the right.

I overcharge pistolled his shield but didn't quite get the kill shot in so he disappeared :(

  • 10.17.2010 4:19 PM PDT

I know he's already been found, but I came across the bob on the bridge of the corvette in long night of solace just recently and decided to take a couple pics.

here is an idea maybe the stuff in the limited edition hints at clues on stuff for the legendary ending

Been playing since pong, and you?

BlindFireSniper is right there is no secret ending watch the the link in his post. You guys need to give up on the secret ending.

"Did we EVER get the eagle that was going to come down and land **on** the helmet?"

"What WAS gonna happen on **easy**?"

"Wait, you WERE actually gonna' have a bird land on the helmet?"

After I watched the video, it did not convince me there was a legendary ending, nor did it prove to me there wasn't. The text being in past tense has nothing to do with the proof, as they were talking about other things they did/wanted to do with other parts of the game, they were just speculating ideas that they had. Just because the eagle didn't make it, doesn't mean something else didn't. (Sorry, had to call you out)

As for speculation:
If you play the first level in Halo 1, eventually, master chief navigates to Keyes, and, according to where reach leaves us, "meets" cortana.......... the problem is this:
EXACT DIALOGUE:
Cortana: "Sleep well?"

Chief: "No thanks to your driving, yes."

Cortana: "So you did miss me."

"So you did miss me". Interesting, reach portrays cortana as choosing Noble 6, then being given to keyes. Chief was frozen all the while. So when did they meet? It is a safe bet that 99% of all stories have holes. In this case, halo probably joins this club, Unless...... there is in fact a legendary ending explaining how they meet before their debriefing in the autumns cockpit. It is also worth noting that cortana was allowed to chose a spartan, and she chose Master Chief, but why then did Dr. Halsey exclaim "she has made her choice" and hand her to Noble 6. Another hole? Precursor for a sequel? Legendary ending material? Did cortana know Noble 6 would successfully deliver her to her "real" spartan? Only Marcus and the gang know.....

On the other hand, look at where the credits leave off, the beginning of halo, with literally no space or room for imagination in between, they even used the exact same words. So, assuming Halo has its few holes/errors, there's no room for an extra ending to explain anything (which in the case is really nothing). Yes, Jun and Halsey escape to Castle Base, and that "could" be an ending, but unlikely, because it actually turns out to be quite an adventure (there are books).
Go back through and play the game on normal, and take it all in. Doesn't it feel like Reach as a whole is a legendary ending? Could you ask for a better way to wrap it up?

If you happened to watch the gamescom interview, Brian's exact words were:
"Well, you know, I think fans can expect (like with) all the halo games, if you manage to be able to beat the game on legendary, your probably going to get treated (with) something different than everybody else who can only go up to heroic so, work hard, it'll pay off for you."
Aren't some of those Easter eggs only accessible on legendary? The words "you can expect", sounds like the weather man to me. "Probably", are you guna study for Mondays test? The statement he said is true, and already fulfilled. You worked hard and got paid off with your tribute room. It doesn't matter what we "expect", or what "probably" happens. In the end, its what they did.

So, theres a few more angles to look at it from.
In my own honestly humble opinion, there is no "legendary ending". But, I do believe Bungie has hidden cool easter eggs, and stuffed an explanation to all the holes in the game. Since this game takes place before the events of Halo CE, small pieces can be put together, like a puzzle, throughout the game, not just all at the end.

I posted this in the other thread but ignore it.

Does anyone know where any of the other switches are? Or do they know what they do?

We could get four people, spread three of them around the area by the switch(in bounds), get the fourth person to activate the switch, then the other three start looking for things that change.

Then replay the part over in Theater and try to find something there.

If nothing turns up then I say ditch the Bob theory and go with the switches. If they dont activate anything during the Campaign then I would bet that they alone would activate an alternate ending.

And I couldnt watch the video. Does it say its a legendary ending.. Or an alternate ending?

maybe theres somthing like the cheif easter egg in the final video

He said Legendary Ending. So far there are 4 switches. 3 of them go to easter eggs such as the Rave music on New Alexandria having 2 switches and 1 on The Package to open a door to the tribute room. The fourth has no use yet.

there is also the "reach racer" acheivment hunter video, with 2 switches on sword base

Does anyone have any idea what the hidden switch in the beginning of "The Package" does? I hit it and checked every nook and cranny of the level from there on. I also checked using theater... still nothing.

interesting- can you please provide pics?

So from what I've surmised, we've found:

1-3 bobs in Winter Contingency
2 bobs in ONI Sword Base
A wannabe bob in ONI Sword Base
2 bobs in Tip of the Spear
1 bob in Nightfall
2 bobs in The Package
1 bob in The Pillar of Autumn
1 bob in Lone Wolf

That means no bobs in The Exodus and New Alexandria that we know of. Apparently its confirmed that there MUST be 2 bobs in ONI and Tip of the Spear, but the bobs in Winter Contingency are up for debate. That means a total of 10-12 bobs + wanabee bob.

We've also found 2 buttons in ONI that summon warthogs in co-op, 2 buttons in New Alexandria that cause the rave, and 2 buttons in The Package: one button that opens the Tribute Room and the other whose function is still unknown.

I'll try to make a good list of everything we've found per level for the OP.

If anyones still reading this, i belive the switch to be part of the banshees thing- check roosterteeth on youtube

Ha! Look back a while ago into the thread. I said we needed to give up and got called a troll for it. Just let them waste their time. I won't say a word until they prove me wrong.

I'm pretty sure the point of picking 6 was for him to take her to Chief. That was the decision. Now the Chief/Cortana relation I don't know. Maybe it has to do with Chief's relationship with Halsey (Some Halo 1 and 3 quotes are said by both in a Halo Legends episode). Maybe Chief knew Cortana before anyone else did. I'm not sure.

Its the hardship and tales of self sacrifice in life that makes us stronger people or, of course, an Overshield and freshly spawned Spartan Laser.

Cortana was already with chief when Noble delivered her to the POA. Confused? Dont be. What you delivered was basicaly a piece of Cortana with the forunner data inside. Once delivered to keyes, he merged the piece with Cortana and then she plugged the data in that in turn led them to Halo when they jumped to slip space. This explains how she was with chief and 6 at the same time (When taking book canon into account) and I remember hearing or reading somewhere that this theory is indeed what happens. If it wasn't for 6, humanity never would have found Halo.

Ya War is Fun has the right idea here.

In the books, and I believe in Halo 2 as well, Cortana splits herself. She is also needed on board the POA basically at all times as the ship needs an AI.

Also, just to make a connection to the datapads. In datapad 18 (pretty sure) the AI committee is talking how they found a way to become one with their creators (humans obviously), instead of fleeing into slip space. The merging of Cortana and Master Chief is the model for this. After they merge the AIs can be "equal" with their creators.

  • 10.19.2010 11:02 AM PDT

The evidence for the split cortana is in the limited edition journal, hansley said copies of cortana where made, one was to research forerunner stuff. 6 brought the copy to poa to sync it with main cortana and that in turn found the halo.

In the end game credits, during cast of characters, it shows Voice of the Terminals-Bob O'Donnell. Plus if you watch the legendary commintary, I believe Marty asks about the terminals with the team just saying I guess we would have to play through again and dig a little deeper. Not sure they mean Data Pads since all the onces I've found don't have a "voice". My bad if this has already been shot done but just figured I'd throw this out there.

How did you get end credits?

  • 10.19.2010 12:53 PM PDT

The end credits are after the POA takes off from Reach; at the end of the 10th mission not after the "Lone Wolf" mission.

Good find on the credits though, I didn't even think to look at 'em.

Gods Must Be Strong

I was playing Nightfall on Normal and I saw a BOB (gold Elite ranger) and sniped him to remove shields near where you help the militia. When I reloaded and scoped again it dodged behind a pillar and was GONE!

I should have checked the theater but I was going for a challenge and forgot
