I saw this game in my local Best Buy for $15, and since I loved H2 on the Xbox, I'm thinking about getting it. I looked through some of the pages on this forum, and well....it doesn't seem well received at all. Why is this?

Maw

We here at the Maw are incredibly finicky. I have only played the campaign, but I thought it was quite good. The overall performance and the graphics are good, the change to keyboard and mouse was done very well, although you can still use a controller if you have one. Ported very well, as far as I'm concerned.

As for the multiplayer, there were threats about pay to play early on, and honestly I don't remember how that turned out. I think you can play with just a Silver account, but I'm not sure. You'll have to talk to someone else about the multiplayer side of it. (I'm still on XP)

Yes, I am a hypocrite, and I'm sorry. I really do mean well, but I'm not running on all cylinders.

Everytime someone buys a copy of Halo 2 Vista, a puppy dies.

On the other side of the coin, I had multiple problems with Halo 2 Vista, but all problems are solved now because MS invalidated my license key for too many re-installations. It is your money, but I feel every purchase of this version sends a bad message.

Halo 2 Vista isn't worth the purchase, but if all you want to do is play Halo 2, then by all means buy this game.

IF YOU PLAY HALO BACKWARDS, THE COVENANT LOSING TOO

I got it for $20, its a great game. The campaign is long, and the story is great. The texture quality isn't great, but the overall look of the game is enthralling. The online doesn't require a Gold account, so its a nice getaway after your Gold expires.

I would say it is worth getting. I have it and I can't really find anything to complain about. If you're worried about the keyboard and mouse, then just use any wired USB Xbox 360 controller (the Play & charge kit does not work).

As for the multiplayer, you can use your current Xbox LIVE account if you have one (which will also receive the gamerscore for the achievements you get). If not, a silver account works just fine to play online.

It only receives bad rep because of the lack of mod tools. As a game, it's still the same game it always was.

yep if you are buying it to play halo 2 then you will have a great deal of fun, especially if you were used to the xbox version, because there are achievements and custom game types ect

"It doesn't matter what I say, since Halo is already more popular than god!" - Zero Punctuation, Halo 3 review

yes the game is well worth it!

Of course! The campaign is just as good as on Xbox, and the multiplayer is friggin' awesome(Though it has no ranking system)!
You can earn Achievements for your Xbox LIVE Gamertag and make/download custom maps with custom weaopons, like the Spartan Laser which didn't exist in Halo 2-

you might be surprised, just wait a while

Go on, Take a penny. Everyone will stare, but who cares? You got a penny!

It's definitely worth it, I've played it for hours, and people have modded the modding tool to make the custom maps even more awsome.

This is the average H2 Fanboy.

50 in H2/H3? Great, but you still fail at this.

It's good, but it has issues with 7.

I installed H2V on my windows 7 rig, and installed win 7 3 times! (once for the RC, once for the RTM, and once for a new computer) and had no issues. If you really (and I mean REALLY) want H2V to work in 7, I recommend you uninstall your GFWL games (including GFWL) and install H2V, (if this is your first GFWL game, then disregard the first step.) and once it installs live, install the other GFWL games. This is how I did it, and is most likely the only way it works. (but then again I could be mistaken)

Thanks for the replies guys.

I have another question, what is multiplayer like? I imagine it's not similar to Halo 2 matchmaking in any way. Is there a ranking system? Is the community small? Is it possible to get into a game without modders or hackers?

Community is small.

Matchmaking was removed, as Bungie did not want to support it.
However there are servers which support stat tracking, they had to work on it though, because the original file dumps from H2V Dedicated servers were 100% unreliable, so they take it directly from memory.

All modders have been eliminated...(except me)
There are hackers, if they hacked in dedicated servers they will be perma-banned.

There are some hacks which are designed for fun...blabababa.
