you shouldn't have any problems running halo PC or CE. lag is mostly a connection issue. What's your ISP: DSL, Cable, or dial-up? That's where most people start having issues with the multiplayer game.

Hopefully my system still runs windows 98 and uses office 95. Its specs are

pentium3 730mhz memory 254mb ram 10 gig harddrive ati radeon 7500 63mbs

It plays the game just fine of course I really had to do some work to keep the lag low. I play the game on high settings and still little lag.

that sounds kinda old. it will run halo OK, but i'd consider getting a new computer. if not now, then soon.
if your budget is an issue, i'd recomend dell. they're selling decent PC's for under $300. i mean a pre-built computer.... for under $300 that's amazing!*

unless, of course you'd like to build your own

*note, i am NOT affiliated with dell in any way shape or form.

Tell him colleges use Win XP Office (a lot of them do) and you'll have trouble transfering your papers to the one's at school ;)

JK (a little). Tell him that NOW is the time to buy if you're looking for a cheap higher end PC. Major PC companies are liquidating 32bit processors and boards in preparation of the 64 surge that is well on it's way. Once these newer processors hit the market in force (at a price the "everyman" can afford) the overall PC price range will stabilize back to a grand for a good system. Also, windows XP (and it's competitors (clicky link in sig for my fav) have lowereed the prices of their Operating Systems in anticipation of Windows Vista, due out in Beta as early as...now. You can get Win XP Pro for as little as $80 right now online. A big reason for the price drop.

And if he doesn't swallow all that...hold your breath until you pass out...lol

Of course I'd get a new system. The problem is though I'm only 14 and my dad has to OK a new sytem. I have enough money to buy that $300. My dad just doesn't want my system to be better than his...

He needs to grow up if he's gonna act that way. Computers are the products that become obsolete the fastest. My dell 8400 is pretty much a forgotten memory on dell's website.

If you are really -blam!- about gaming, then $300 is no way in hell gonna help. Most good gaming rigs are close to $1000 if you get a good deal.
