Halo PC: Because Keyboards have more buttons.

Has anyone had any success running Halo under WINE (Linux)? If so, any tips? I tried tinkering with it the other night but no luck...Couldn't get a dedicated server up either.

Not really a big deal, but it'd be nice to have a server daemon up without having to run another machine all the time.

Yes, I am a hypocrite, and I'm sorry. I really do mean well, but I'm not running on all cylinders.

Everytime someone buys a copy of Halo 2 Vista, a puppy dies.

Use the most current devlopment version of Wine, and install winetricks, then use it to install vcrun6, or drop mfc42.dll into your Wine windows/system32 directory. Also, ensure you have proprietary 3d video drivers installed if you use ATI or NVIDIA graphics hardware.

I am not sure about the dedicated server. You may be able to run it from the command line with wineconsole.

Halo client

Looks like you'll need to launch with -window -vidmode w,h,r.

w = width, h = height, r = refresh rate

* 640 × 480
* 800 × 600
* 1024 × 768
* 1152 × 864
* 1280 × 768
* 1280 × 960
* 1280 × 1024
* 1600 × 1200

Those are all valid resolutions Halo can switch to.

Apparently Wine 1.1 works better than Wine 1.2, so try downgrading to that version using your package manager.

The comments and how-to's are a bit dated... I can run Halo PC full screen with Wine 1.3.3 no problem at 1440x900. Sound is mostly fine, but mouse controls are messed. Luckilly I'm obsessed wtih playing everything with a PS3 controller now. Joystick input is almost perfect. I'm pretty sure the mouse issue has something to do with "mouse warp". That is all of course my own personal experience.
