I see The Maw, a Halo PC forum.

No Mac forum? There's a Halo out for the Mac, right? At least, I think that's what I've been playing.

Unless The Maw is for Personal Computers. Which is great, and all, but it would be really nice to have a seperate forum. I for one am interested in updates and changes relevant to my specific platform, and I've seen a few troubleshooting issues on here as well.

Apologies in advance if I posted this in the wrong place.

Mac Halo discussion goes in the Maw. I suspect that the main reasons behind there not being a specific Mac Halo forum would be:

* The Mac Halo user base compared to the Windows Halo user base is minute. The Maw moves relatively slowly as it is, a Mac Halo forum would get very few posts in a day.

* The distinction between Halo for Macintosh and Halo for Windows is rather unremarkable compared to the distinction between Xbox Halo and PC Halo. The Mac version is a direct port of the Windows version - it has all of the same features, and as a result, almost all of the issues that could come up in the forum are relevant to both Mac users and Windows users. In contrast, Halo PC is a largely altered port of the Xbox game. The graphics received a major upgrade, and internet play was added. Also, there are many topics that are irrelevant to Xbox users - you don't need to worry about how much RAM your Xbox has, or what video card is in your Xbox, but both of these issues are relevant to Mac and PC Halo.

So basically, almost all of the topics that could come up in a Mac Halo forum would do just as well in a Windows Halo forum, and the small user base would just compound the inactivity. There's no real reason for it - if you have Mac Halo problems, post them in the Maw, and someone will probably be able to help.

Wait, which Linux? There are thousands of different versions. People take one, modify it to their liking then put it on the internet.

Wow, this thread got off topic pretty quick.

well, i dunno why pretender didn't just lock it immediately, but hey, whose complaining?

well, i mean the original or newest version, the one that you go to linux.com and download for free. that one.

I use Red Hat Linux. Works for me.

And there are a ton of different versions of Linux. Saying "The newest one" is kind of vauge.

wow, you responded fast...

that was kinda funny...more on the sad side. although 6 games isn't right...i'd know, because i accidentally bought 2 thinking they were pc games (i did it online, lay off). so there's 8...ish.

still, we can laugh at it's patheticness...

if your really smart, you'll have a pc that has both windows and linux, and use windows for gaming and linux for just about everything else.

I just have a PC with Windows. I really like Windows, although a lot of people seem to dislike it a lot.

  • 09.30.2005 6:01 PM PDT

i used to like windows, but over the last 4 years i've noticed how many bugs and problems it has. of course, mac's are no better, but i know, for a fact, that linux rules them both. i've had 3 computers crash using windows, 2 of them where the hard drive couldn't even be saved. i don't know how that's possible. plus my comp now is screwed up, and windows literally restarts every time i shut it off. it restarts everything as though i've never used the computer anymore...so i just have a little bias against it.

so the next comp i get, i'll have windows and linux, and spend 2 days just figuring out how to use the damn thing.

I don't have any problems with Windows to be honest. You get problems when you don't take proper care of it. Every once in awhile, you should empty your cache. Every 6 months or so you should defrag. You should also do virus/spyware scans fairly often.

Those things are very easy to do, and they really help your computer.

yup, what he said. I really dont think it is required to have a whole new forum just for MAC users, just use the PC one.

I thought a format war was for web browsers.....

I just changed your name. No offense, I just noticed how easy it would be to make fun of your name.

normally, i'd agree with you kilroy, but computers and i are just not compatible. its inevitable. they always end up breaking, having ridiculously stupid problems, and the local computer store just say's that its a virus, which i know is complete bull cause i have 2 virus programs running simultaneously, as well as an adaware program scanner, and like 50 billion other things. they just help for a little while...like tylonal (or however you spell it). it only relieves the pain...doesn't solve the problem.

Really? Haha! Could you give us an example?

...oh, you did.

...hmm...

Well, this thread began as a reasonable discussion, but by the third post it turned into a bloodbath of platform bigotry.

If you feel like you need to denigrate others' choice in what kind of Operating System they use, of all things, to feel better about yourself, maybe you need to reassess the priorities in your life.

It's kind of scary to come across a thread in the Septagon where 9 out of 10 of the people who've posted in it are acting like morons.

Thanks for ruining my mood everyone.
