The cable is just a piece of wire, no software. couldn't be the cable (unless there is something wrong with the conection points- check and clean them). If that doesn't work, it's on of the xboxs. (on that, I have no advice)

No problem.

Whatever you do, don't blow on the conections. That will only jam whatever crap may be there deeper in.

Believe it or not the Halo Game of the Year edition and the original edition of Halo can't be played together, so if they are different versions then no you can't play them together. Me and my friends had this problem once, turned out it was the disk. If both disk are rather new then it's more than likely the ethernet card in one of the XBoxes, there is little or no way it's the link cable unless you bought a faulty one.

If it lets you select the system link option then it is not the cable.

It has to be connected by a hub.

Is it that 'official' xbox system link cord? All you need is crossover cord.

I'm not sure, but it's probably your face.

It's your disc. Don't listen to idiots, with a system link cable you don't need a Hub. It is because one of your game discs is much older than the other, I promise you.

halo between two xboxes without a hub requires a crossover instead of a direct cable. instead of buying a whole new cable, however, just spend $20 for a router on ebay. if you use the router as a hub, it doesnt matter what kind of cable you use, and if you have 4 xboxes and 4 cables, that is a very good setup.
