I got Halo 3 ( HALO 3:OSDT 2 disc set, one disc's called multiplayer halo3 mystic or something like that) about a year ago for free when I bought my xbox. After playing the osdt thingy which is beyond dreadful I put it away and bought MW2.
the OSDT missions were a perfect exhibit of lazy developers : 80% of missions are on the same map; the dark streets of some future town. The programmers couldn't be bothered to do graphics so they made sure it's far too dark to see anything unless you use the tac helmet/info thingy which is far too bright to see anything. This is supposed to be in the future, a flash-light/ matches/ piece of flint and straw would all have been better.
Every fight scene is exactly the same, cue camp world music and an assortment of camp aliens pop up and the doors close. Empty 900 magazines (since the combat rifle is just a fancy bb gun) to kill them and the camp world music stops and you can move on. A truly terrible game.
Anyway, after spending a year with MW2 I got bored of that and decided to try out the multiplayer halo disc. I tried the lone wolf and slayer lists first and instantly noticed a problem: you need to empty at least one clip into someone to kill them unless you're using the sniper rifle or the bazooka.
This is a serious problem if you want skilled players to excel, if it only took 4-5 shots to take someone down I could use my supreme skills to kill whole groups of people nearly instantly but the way it actually is it takes me about 10 secs of sustained fire to kill one of them, and unless the other guy's deaf and blind he'll start shooting at me and I'm toast. ( Yes I know you can use a grenade to take down the shield but then I have to find that first and throw it perfectly )
So for the normal game modes there's safety in numbers, killing someone takes forever and it's all about finding the sniper rifle and bazooka.
So I tried the SWAT playlist and that was slightly better, the guns actually do some damage and a single grenade can kill someone! On the downside it's EXTREMELY headshot-centered, 3 bursts with the battle rifle vs one headshot. When you combine this with the fact that halo characters can't run properly but can jump 20 feet for some reason most games consist of everyone jumping around like rabbits trying to get a headshot.
Then there's the whole skill/exp thing. I just played a team swat game where everyone else on my team left during the game, I got 31 kills and 15 deaths, the best guy on the other team got 16 kills but they still won because they'd killed the other guys on my team so many times. If I had a full team I'd probably have gone 39-7 but for some reason the players who leave aren't replaced so it's me against 4 amateurs who will get kills just because it's 4-1 and I get 0 EXP even though I'm very clearly the best player. That's total BS.
So how do you guys find enjoyment in this game? any game types/tactics I should try out?
