Subject: Level: The Library. What do you think?

I want to know what others think about The Library level. Personally, I am not a huge fan of it. It seemed long, dark, and dull. Consequently, I have only played it a few times. Which level difficulty do you recommend? Is there anything really cool about this level that I've completely missed?

Is there anything special about those big blue things?

I am in the middle of the library on Heroic. It seems pretty challenging (and thus fun) but also repetitive. I think it would make most people's list of levels to avoid. Most people who complain say that it is too long and boring; but it is not any longer than AotCR, which is many players' favorite level. It is the repetiveness of the halls and tactical situations.

I have seen demos of Doom3, and think that "the Library" would be one of the lighter levels, if attached to that game. Maybe the best thing about this level is that, by its existence, it keeps another level from being labeled as "most loathed."

I've beaten the Library in single player on Heroic and coop on Legendary. All I can say is that it's really freaky and repetitive. I ususally just run through most of it - the flood are too stupid to come after you in most cases.

I fyou want a Challenge. Play the Library on Legendary, eithere alone or co-op, and only use plasma weapons. It is difficult.

the library is a long, annoying level that is one of my least fav. levels to play. it is challenging on leendary though. but personally i dont really like the flood that much. even though there are a bucnh of them, they get annoying after a while. i am hoping that they arent in Halo 2, cause that may bring the game down. not that the game isnt going to be awesome in every possible way, but the flood would just be annoying. they are too stupid to find earth and there isnt much history on them. but that is just my opinion.

Yes, I guess I would have to agree that the flood seems too stupid to find earth. I've often thought, while playing the game, that even the Covenant appears too stupid to find earth, let alone get as far as they have. I kind of wish they had made the Covenant appear more intelligent.

But I have another question about the Library level. Do the big glowing blue things serve a purpose other than being something to look at? Do they do anything?

I beat the library on legendary on both coop and SP. It was kind of hard but I did it. It's a long level but I still play it alot for a chalange. oh, why is it called the library if there aren't any books?

The game doesn't make it too clear; but a pivotal point in the books is that the Flood are very capable of finding Earth, by virtue of literally picking the brains of their victims. So, shortly after a human who knows where Earth is becomes a Flood victim, the Flood knows where Earth is. The design and purpose of Halo is testiment to the fact that the designers believed that the Flood was quite capable of infecting the entire galaxy. Yes, the Flood appear brain-dead when it comes to squad-level combat tactics; but remember the part in "Keyes" or "The Maw" (forget which level) where Cortana says that the Flood are stacking bodies? That takes teamwork and organization. Freaky.

Now, for the Covenant. The books make plain that they just plain suck against the Spartans in ground warfare, and their space-based tactics are not the best; but their technology was far superior to that possessed by humans, and they do have some ability to plot, as evidenced by the technique they used to find the planet Reach.

I'm sure you are right. I have never read the books or anything. So my only impressions of the flood or Covenant derive from what I've seen of them in the game.

  • 08.11.2004 5:50 PM PDT

  • 08.11.2004 6:40 PM PDT

I like my Covenant like i like my woman, screamin and with a sticky on there face.

the flood arent smart enough to find earth that is why you will go to another ring and fight them. duh am i the only one hearing stuff like this or am i just stupid. there is also a low gravity level if you havent heard yet

Library on legendary is awesome. But only on co-op. On Sp theres just too many enemies and not enough time too reload. on co-op its the only level thats not TOO easy.

I honestly do not think that the Library is tough, even on Legendary. All you need is patience and a quick trigger. As for reloading, use the switch weapon trick to reload your empty weapon while you are firing your other. (When you need to reload hit reload, reload, switch weapon and wait til your hear the reload sequence end, then you can switch back).

LEGENDARY IS challenging for some ... but ... I AM NOT LEGENDARY ... I AM A MYTH!!!

I have beaten the library in single-player mode, and beat it at least 20 times on legendary. sorry, but i am not a huge fan on co-op. i recommend playng it on Legendary, and for you guyz bring a friend for the night, it be quite funny seeing your friend get all paranoid aftr it. anyways... i am done here... for now...

Are you being facetious? The flood ARE smart enough to find Earth. Where do you think all those marine reinforcements and air support that MC gets come from? There is a major subplot in the book "The Flood," involving the PoA's large contingent of surviving marines, that is only very faintly hinted at in the game. I don't want to spoil the book for anyone who wants to read the Bungie-sanctioned storyline; so will just say that it is only by heroic and sacrificial actions on the part of someone (and it ain't who you think it is) that Earth has, so far in the story, been saved from a visit by these guys. (My guess is that we will see them on Earth or one of the Covenant's home planets in Halo 3.)

Hadn't heard about low grav: sounds like fun!

EDIT: Just finished the Library on my first run in Heroic: It wasn't nearly as hard nor as long as I remember Normal being.

Okay, now I know I've already asked this question a couple times, but I didn't get any real answers, just a half-guess. So at the risk of being annoying, here it is again:

What are the big glowing blue things (I don't even know what to call them) in The Library? Do they serve any purpose? If not, is there anything cool about them, or anything fun that you can do with them just to fool around?

Everything this guy has said is absolutely true in my opinion; the exact opinion I have about 'The Library'
