yes some of this is extracted form the halo 2 render tutorials at halomods.com but since i am not a credit thief i give rossmengund, platt, and zman credit for teaching me this.

halo 2 .map file -google it (mainmenu and shared .map) they are two different .map files
if you have a modded xbox that works too.
Procedure:
first install winrar
then extract ADI and CH2R.
try to build an organized folder structure for this.
extract the modelib.dll and put it inot your libraries folder in your ADI
then go to your list.ini and add modelib.dll into the list file. dont forget to save it.
open up ADI. open up your mainmenu/shared.map file. go to mode-model in the tags list. then to objects>characters>masterchief (though i cant seem to get his visor working it shows up as black) or to objects>characters>elite. using modelib.dll extract the model as a wavefront.obj.
now open up CH2R. go to objects>characters>masterchief or elite depending on the model you extracted>bitmaps. extract ALL of the bitmaps. open up photoshop. open up your base .dds files and your bump.dds files. group the base files on one side and your bumps on the other. resize all images to be 1024. then go to your base images and save them. use DTX3 (explicit alpha) for your bases. then one by one in your bumps press ctrl+4 to switch to your alpha channel. then press ctrl+a then press ctrl+c to copy selection then pressto select all. then ctrl+` to select all shannels butl alpha. then select ctrl+v to paset the selection. flatten the image. then save the bumps as dtx 1 (no alpha)
