With the new info I'm worried about the team speak. It sounds like you have to hold the white button down to talk to just your team. This sucks IMO. If I'm holding the white button down I can't fight at the same time. I can't count the number of times I will be saying something very important to my team while fighting. If I have to hold down the button to talk I can't fight back because my thumb will be off the right analog stick. If the white button simply worked as a toggle between proximity voice and team speak, it would be a lot better. What do you guys think?

Toggle would be nice. Hold just takes away from the action, and we wouldn't want that.

If the white button toggeled the talk then how would you turn on your flashlight. And bungie has said that lighting will be much better now meaning you might need the lighs alot more.

Yeah. Toggle would be best. The flashlight didnt make it into Halo 2 this time I think.

think about it.... all great games have team chat as a a toggle control and not some hold down the button. Perfect example is Counter-Stike(XBOX), team chat is a toggle, not to mention if it wasnt then there would be no strategy.

I'm a bit confused here. Will the Xbox be using Teamspeak 2 (http://www.teamspeak.org) or is this a stand alone Voice System like the current Xbox Live uses? I would assume the latter, as I see no reason why Xbox would be using TS2...

The only concern I have with haveing a Toggle instead of having to hold it down is that people will simply leave the Toggle on all the time. If this is the case, it will be like Unreal Championship. Tons of sound was always traveling through a bunch of headsets, using up a lot of bandwidth and causing a lot of lag. I'd prefer a Hold Down over Lag any day.

I agree, it should be a toggle. Whenever I played Mech Assault that required holding down the button to speak with team, most people ended up forgetting to do it and would say valuable info to the enemy. And, not to mention that it takes away from you ability to kill/defend effectively.

  • 08.11.2004 12:48 PM PDT

It should be toggle, like in Socom for the PS2 where they give you 10 seconds to speak.

Ghost Recon is a good game for hold down, because most of it is stealth, there is no heated battle, because 1 shot and your dead. Also, as a sniper, I was usually lying in wait awhile, and would talk to myself or some1 in my room, and wouldnt spam the whole team.

Halo on the other hand, where you can be in a heated combat zone taking hits...you arent going to be reaching for a white button and living much longer. Toggle is a neccessity.

  • 08.11.2004 12:51 PM PDT

It should be Team Speak permanently, and then hold down to talk to everyone else, to trash talk or something. Why the heck would have have to say something to the other team anyway? Besides trash talking I mean?

yah i mean then that would defeat the whole purpose of it.. if you found out that someone was in your base with the flag and u been speaking for 9 seconds already.... i mean cmon that would blow.

Here is the new info on the Halo 2 Headset by the way.

hold down would be -blam!-. thats why bungie is doing a beta test to get rid of as many flaws as possible (lag, framerate slowdowns, voice problems, glitches, etc.), so i wouldnt worry about lag if it is a toggle button.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who wants it as a toggle. Hopefully bungie will make it like this.

if it comes out as a hold button, we should start complaining so they can make a patch for it.

WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT!!! lol, you say you think the flashlight didnt make it to halo 2 HAHAHAAHA~!~~ Have you read anything on halo 2 lately! With the new lighting engine, shadows will be awesome hiding spots for you and the COVIES!!! Its all about the flashlight in H2~!! You'll be walking through dark corridors and you'll have to use your flashlight to see where your going eh? Then if a covie approaches, turn it off and you can sneak around in the dark! How can you say you THINK its not in H2.
