Yea they did in a book which is officially supported by bungie as being accurate, they said the magnum was a high caliber weapon that was more powerful than the M6D. So yes they did, and for all we know it does have HE rounds, it would make sense: humans would want the most powerfull weapons they could get their hands on; maintaining realism to the storyline is more important than balancing.

off topic but is the assualt rifle being replaced by the battle rifle...if so wouldnt it also make since that they would replace the pistol with another weapon.

It aint replacing it it just is, nothings replacing anything they are all new, it is just that some of the orrigional weapons wont be in.

I am sorry I missed the part where bungie said that the m6d was replaced by the magnum and that the m6d isn't in halo 2. Can you give me a link to where bungie staff members have posted that?

Actually, I think balance and gameplay comes before reality. The concept of humans still using projectiles five-hundred years into the future doesnt seem realitic to me at all, but it makes the game more fun to use guns you can relate to, it helps to visualize yourself in that poistion. So, yes, in Bungie's case, balance does come before realism.

actually it does seeing as the covenant had to get their technology from the forerunners to have their sheilds and stuff. just as the humans adapted the jackals sheild into what master cheifs sheild is now.

No not that kind of realism, i mean that it is true to the story: like the humans are incapable of fighting the covenant on ground very effectivly so they would want very powerfull weapons with good accuracy over non powerfull weapons. They should focus on that kind of realism over balance. And i never said the M6D was replaced or taken out, i said in the book it says there is a new pistol not that it replaced it gets your facts right Posted by: Agamemnon

Allthough it will be awesome to go around with two handcannons and not have everyone else do the same thing like it was in Halo, i am glad they dont have to lower the power, it just wouldn't be the same:) i hope it looks something like that one Magnum we see the Srgt holding in the pre xbox shots, that thing is HUGE :O :O

I'm not too sure about this "Magnum". Tactically the SMG replaces the AR (high RoF, inaccurate) and the BR replaces the pistol (low-powered scope, relatively accurate, single shot when scoped) To be balanced this weapon must have no scope, small clip and be quite inaccurate. I hated the way the pistol dominated Halo 1)

i doubt it will have a scope it will have maybe 8 shot clip but i dont know, however for accuracy it needs to be accurate because all pistols are accurate but not asmuch as the pistol from Halo1, maybee like the plasma pistol or rifle accuracy, and non of the weapons are replaced they are entirely new, non of them replace anything else.

I thought that the battle rifle was basically the pistol, taking 3 burst to kill (headshots, like the pistol). This would make sense as Bungie would like to keep it similar for everyone who loved the pistol, but it couldn't be used at long range, as in scope it takes 8 shots to kill. The only way you could use it is if you can pull the trigger 8 times very fast. This is to make people use a variety of weapons.

The AR, instead of being replaced by the BR, is replaced by the SMG. It makes sense right? Short range and innacurate, but fires enough bullets to get the job done. To make up for the incompetence of the AR, this version can be dual weilded.

Some people would say that the BR replaces the AR, and yes it does, in the sense that it is the generic weapon used by Chief and the Marines, and it is a rifle replacing a rifle, but in terms of range, accuracy and power, Pistol -> BR and SMG -> AR

The source for this is at http://www.mlgpro.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=News&am p;file=articl e&sid=99&mode=thread&order=0&thold=0

edit: the guy two posts above this is basically saying the same as me (with less words)

I am going to have to agree with you there. the pistol is replaced with the battle rifle, besides if you had a battle rife that has a auto- zoom scope on it why would you want to fill up your other weapon space with a pistol that has no scope, is less accurate and is less powerfull

Magnum IS more powerful than the original Pistol.

But the Pistol DID have armor-piercing rounds and a SCOPE.

So, Magnum (more powerful) WITHOUT a scope is PERFECT for HALO 2.

Thank you Bungie.

No more Pistol-fests...

Someone said something about using projectile weapons 500 years in the future...

Well, the setting is 2552 (or whatever) but it's MILITARY time. It doesn't state anywhere in the story (or in the books) of it being AD or BC or anything...something like stellar-MILITARY time.

But yeah...just trust me. Everyone knows the Pistol was unbalanced and it has been addressed. If you were in an indoor map in HALO and somebody picked up the pistol - EVERYBODY had to use the pistol and it was LAME.

Using the Pistol isn't skill. And it limits the gameplay elements - so with the removal of a Pistol that has armor-piercing rounds and a scope...

And replacing it with a badass, powerful, scope-less Magnum sounds like Bungie perfectly tuning the experience yet again.

I'm telling you, these catz are flawless.

Battle rifle is just as good as the pistol. The fact that you control the speed of the rifles fireing is amazingly better than the pistol. There is not going to be a magnum either.

I think thepistol should come back for story reasons, but it has to lose the HE rounds. (maybe make it 6 shots to kill)

Whether you believe it or not i dont care but for those who dont know the source of the "confirmation" of the magnum is at:

http://www.theagp.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=3006

Supposedly a german preview i think.?

Anyway, I think that if there is a new AND more powerful pistol (or magnum or whatever) it could still be balanced by making it really inaccurate.-I'm sure you've all noticed the 'stickiness' your reticule gets with different weapons. Well some weapons don't get that. Like the sniper rifle unzoomed. Ever tried to shoot someone like that? If there close yuo can forget it. (This is where PC ppl get hyped on their mouse cause its more accurate...)

Anyway, I think there is actually room for all sorts of permutations of accuracy, power, rate of fire, clip size, reload time, etc. Bungie could work out 12 totally new weapons that would fit perfectly and be balanced.

So if there is a pistol it won't dominate. It will have its proper place in the rock-paper-scissors-battlerifle-smg-rocket web of balance

Why is this so hard to get?

Yes more powerful, normal accuracy, no scope = PERFECT.

The BR is, and is not as good has the H1 pistol. It takes 8 shots to kill, but unzoomed, it takes 3 3shot bursts. so unzoomed (which requires much more skill), it still takes 3 pulls of the trigger to down someone, and zoomed (which requires less skill), it takes 8 pulls of the trigger.

Also, can you point me to where they said it wasn't going to be in the game? They didn't confirm it, either, but to flat out state that there will be no magnum in H2, when they neither confirm nor deny the magnum's appearance in H2, is retarded. No offense, if I sounded like an asshat, right there.

I dont care I either hope its the M6D with no scope and its less accurate on its replaced by the magnum which would be the same pretty much as what I want the M6D like.
