The New ATi Radeon X1000 Series Just looks amazing. They have 3 models: the X1300 (as low as US $79) for budget, the X1600 for heavy multimedia work, and the X1800 for the extreme gamer.

Features include support for the 3.0 pixel shader, and image quality enhancement dubbed "Avivo".

One thing puzzles me: If you check out the gamer's products page, and look at any of the x1000 series, it says:

From the X1300 Specs page
Features
105 million transistors on 90nm fabrication process
Four pixel shader processors
Two vertex shader processors
128-bit 4-channel DDR/DDR2/GDDR3 memory interface
32-bit/1-channel, 64-bit/2-channel, and 128-bit/4-channel configurations
Native PCI Express x16 bus interface
AGP 8x configurations also supported with external bridge chip
Dynamic Voltage Control

pixel shader processors. would anyone smarter please tell me if these are better than pixel pipelines?

For those who want all of the features and capabilities of the Radeon X1800 and Radeon X1600 but who are on a budget, the Radeon® X1300 will meet their needs for as low as US $79.

What...the...hell?

If that's true, then PC Gaming can be revitalized, as now everyone can have super-graphics!

Click this link Mr MA5B. that's a basic definition of what a graphics pipeline is. What follows is a simplification.

The processor is one part of a graphics pipeline, the last stage needed before converting everything into a 2D image on screen. I assume these new processors are a continued attempt by ATI to reduce packet size and increase data rate transmission. more packets going in, smaller, equals more system stability if a packet is lost or corrupted, and more pixel shades being used by the card to create better textures and colors.

For gamers, that means things will look more "real", and run smoother. Don't rush our and buy this card though. not yet. You'll need at least an LCD monitor to realise its full potential. Also, i never recommend impulse buying the latest greatest (well, not anymore). Watch the forums for a while to see how people respond to the card. Give ATI a little time to update drivers as this card meets its first real world gaming problems, and in general, be wary. Hyperthreading was all the rage...until it was discovered to give a gaping hole to PC security. letting others test it out first is your best "try before you buy" other than playing on someone elses' PC.

Hope this helps.

EDIT: OMG! ATI is actually using GPU to define their processors now. Thats nVidia lol . try this link if you're still not sure whats what.
