Mods on power trips crack me up.

Why cant bungie admit they got Halo PC very badly wrong and left it to rot?

What are you going to do about halo pc?
I'm not going to do anything about it. I personally CAN'T do anything about it.

I play Halo PC. I agree that it has issues. I'd love to see it improved, and to be patched to perfection. Like many others, I waited months for CE to be released, and was severely disappointed to find that it was going to be multiplayer-only.

But the fact remains that Bungie didn't port this game. The reason that they asked Gearbox to do it was because they were busy developing Halo 2. They're now busy developing their next game, which I for one am looking forward to immensely. I'd love it if they could just start working on improvements to Halo PC/CE, but the fact is that Bungie really is only a small team, and are no longer really able to work on more than one project at a time.

And even though constructive criticism is welcome here, you can't expect an answer. This is not an official support path for Halo PC, and the time spent here by Bungie employees is limited by their busy schedules. It's not that they're ignoring you - it's that they're busy with other things and may rarely even see The Maw. The employees you see here are also rarely development staff - they are mostly members of the community team.

Do you post like this on the Gearbox forum as well, telling them what a crappy job you think they did?

amen, goweb. Honestly I'm sick of all this whining. I will stand up and say to honestly stop playing Halo PC if you can't take the lag, if you can't take the issues, and you plain just don't like the game. I admit I have some guff with certain things, cough *bad lag* cough, but I don't go making numerous threads about it and begging Bungie and Gearbox to fix it. If anything pigs will fly and Bungie will make Gnop 2 before they make a serious patch for Halo PC, obviously they will focus on a hypothetical Halo 2 PC before they even think about patching Halo PC. Fortunately, the nature of the writing lends me to rather see threads asking to fix Halo PC then threads wining about there being no Halo 2 PC. Nonetheless, even though these threads are usually well-written, they still don't belong here in the Maw.

If you stopped thinking about all the faults and start focusing on all the amazing things you'll have a LOT of fun, believe me. Have you ever even stopped for 10 sec. in the single-player campaign to admire how well the single-player was ported to the Halo PC? Everything down to the very last enemy was ported to Halo PC (well no coloured jackal shields :(

besides, i'm trying to do a lot of glitching & tricking in Halo PC now, over at HIH I'm amazed at the amount of Halo PC trickers, and their vids have made the front page countless times since I've been there, they just admire the game for what it DOES have, not what it's missing or what it does wrong. No one's getting anywhere with these kind of threads and they should be kept out of the Maw, it already has enough flood in it as it is, don't make it any harder.

Actualy i preffer Halo over any other FPS out there..the only other FPS i realy love is Half Life 2...actualy Half Life 2 is way better when it comes to graphics, gameplay story(sound isn`t that good though) and yet Halo remains my favorite and like u Mr B i`m equaly annoyed and dissapointed and heck...even insulted by Bungie at the lack of respect and care for the PC fans of the Halo universe.

@ the guy who posted above Mr B:
Are you high ? how can u agree with the no attention that Bungie is giving us? How can u agree with them doing nothing about the hackers,aim-bot users and such? ABOUT THE LAG?! It`s a 3 year old game and it lags worse then any other online game i play ffs!

I havn`t posted here in about 1 month and yet i find it the same...always the same...PC fans are put on the shelf until -blam!- and Microsoft need some extra $ and they decide to toss us a cheap halfa*s port thats glitchy to high-heaven and then they just leave us to rot while the xbox fanboys get all they need...well at least they get exploited more then we do(online fees, extra maps and stuff costs $ lol)

oh Bungie what have u become...

Yes. I have. I've also emailed Microsoft. So have others. We've called--taken the time to pick up the phone and push the buttons and pace around the house while on hold (just to be disconnected)--M$, Bungie and Gearbox (not 100% on the last two , but I can attest to M$ personally).
We've offered to fix it ourselves. We've offered to take up administrative duties on Bungie servers. There is an auto-lead program (some mistake it for an aimbot; when set up properly...its as effective as server ping) circulating around halo PC right NOW that solves the lag issue. the problem is that it is not a public download. It's a hack, not a user created patch. And if it was, then we'd see some reaction from the trinity: law suits more than like.

The fast and easy solution: fix the problems in Halo 1 with H2s release to PC. Instead of myriad patches (to a game that is STILL dropping green in their pocket people--check out all the new Maw members if you disagree) just release the next game in the series. Our major complaints stem from multiplayer, not FPS.

And I've made this point before. how many admins are watching the Bungie forum? how many Ninja's do we have ready to swat our heads with that big shiny banhammer if we go too far, swear too much or act like some rascist jerk?

Now. How many times have you been called a "n"word on the Bungie servers. If the mods don't like that word, don't like the suggestive theme it implies, they delete it from the post. Its offensive to me and other people and i wish it wasn't part of the venacular. Thats why moderators exist: to protect everyone else from a few small testicled individuals who get their rocks off on creating misery.

BUT IT'S STANDARD TEXT CHAT ON THEIR SERVER! It's not allowed, not condoned. It gets shot down when authority sees it. I play bungie servers for more than thirty minutes, I know I'll see it at least once. I've seen and heard less offensive things in Grand Theft Auto than things I've seen spammed on your text chat windows in game. There are no law men left in the Bungie servers. So, the lawless rule unopposed.

But this is constructive critiscism. Accepted. Heres some.

CLEAN UP YOUR ACT BUNGIE! IF YOU WON'T OR CAN'T THEN GIVE FREE THINKING RIGHT MINDED UNBIASED HUMANS A WAY TO GET THESE PEOPLE OFF OURSELVES! These people disgust me for using a game to promote their disease. You, as a company, sicken me for holding your hands in the air saying "not my fault". Microsoft, Gearbox AND Bungie. Guess what: it's your fault. You took away the power to defend players when you moved all the moderators to H2. It's your fault because you took the power to stop these people away from us, loyal (once loyal) fans.

You stripped us bare. We told you they were at the door. We begged you to leave the gun, or at least lock the door. You didn't, and you left. They came in, tied us down and have been gang raping us ever since.

But sleep well tonight Bungie. It's not your fault.

EDIT: That last bit may not have been very constructive. Or maybe it was. Email it to your PR staff goweb. Tell me what they think. If they still do...

Well, I have a small theory about the lag that seems to have increased not only halo, but also everywhere. Back in the early days of the internet, most everyone had dial-up from between 14.4k and about 48k. The few games like Diablo and Starcraft were built with dial-up in mind. Lately though close to a quarter of a BILLION *I'm estimating* people with some type of broadband.

Now let’s analyze this. A common good 56k connection is about 48kiloBITS per second... i.e. 6kilobytes per second. This can be compared a good DSL speed of about 1megabit per second, which translates to around 125kilobytes per second. Quite the jump is it not? You can fit just over 20 connections in the same space as that one DSL line.

How does this relate to lag? It’s interesting. Let’s take blizzard's battle.net. When I first played on it, there was a good portion of 56kers and thus there was minimal lag. As the years went by more and more people started to get broadband and the lag increased. I believe this is because of two reasons.
1. Increased rate of packet transfers and the 56kers are getting flooded by packets, thus we cannot keep up and are lagged. From this lag, we get warping, increased fire inaccuracy, and frequent drops.
2. Decreased bandwidth "room". as more and more people use up the bandwidth the increased time it takes a packet to go from computer A to server 13 because it has to go through servers 1-12 which has varying amounts of people sending and receiving data through them.

These are my thoughts and my theory, I am unable to 100% conclude this is why but I believe that this is a possible factor.

The lag is all microsoft's fault, just so you know. Gearbox had very good, broadband only netcode, and microsoft forced them to add 56k support.

I agree with you Mr. B. I've played halo pc for about a year and have noticed alot of extra lag in the past few weeks. I don't understand why nobody has done anything about it. I have sent e-mails (with no response) and have heard many complaints from fellow halo players.
Damn, can't something be done!
I guess all we can do is complain in the forums and keep playin.
We make up the majority of commited online halo players and we should be heard!!!!!

Halo movie discussion belongs in The Underground.

Pointless rambling about Halo PC that achieves absolutely nothing belongs nowhere, and is spam.

Constructive criticism about Halo PC is fine here though

You want some? Ok.

What are you going to do about halo pc?

Its a total mess, you have to admit that.

Tking and AFK's taking server spaces are totally rampant, and unstoppable on unadmined servers.

The lag is awful compared to all other online games.

We havent had a patch to help with the main issues since its release.

CE is good, but its dead due to lack of support from bungie (yes GB made it, but Halo IS a bungie game).

There is issues with game stability. Exception errors are common.

And what is bungie going to do about it?

Fix it?

Tell gearbox to finish the job?

Get microsoft to fix it, or give funding to fix it?

So you see, everytime we ask for something to be done, or give constructive critisim, its never answered by you lot. Or its fobbed off ('Its geeearbox that messed it up!').

So dont give me your BS.

Yes there has been horrible lag in the past few weeks, and Bungie has not done anything or mentioned anything in the weekly-update or any other small announcement that they know/are trying to fix the lag problem. Have we heard a little post that Bungie knows about this problem and is trying to fix it, NO. (Coming from the mouth of Frankie or other Bungie staff) They have more people now because of their next project, so they can get a few staff members to go and "check" out this problem and try to fix it.

Goweb, I know that you are just trying to help Bungie out in this talk about problems for Halo PC, and you agree with the problems, so why dont you talk with Frank and the rest of them since you have "special rights"that some of us will NEVER have. (And Bungie, stop using the moderators to talk with us members and do the job YOUR SUPPOSED TO DO). This I can honestly say, must be the worst ever support for a game that has sold over 5 million games.

well, the employees are working all day long and don't exactly want to come home, check the forums, and get a larger headache from reading posts upon posts of bad comments, jibberish, swearing, and whatnot that gives the mods headachs after they get home.

Bungie, your servers are horrible now. I've been lost in the EA world of Battlefield 2 for the last 3 weeks. When i went back to halo the last 2 days, your bungie-ctf servers are Laggy with a capital L. My gun would start to reload 3 seconds after i pressed the reload key. Chat would also take 3 seconds to show up. Everyone would complain of red X's at the same time several times a game. I think the servers need a reboot, or at least a check-up.

It's not just the lag that plagues halo pc, various cheats have been released and are ruining public games as well as the little competition left in halo. Bungie, there is a working aimbot, YES AN AIMBOT, that is currently out, in addition to wireframes and glasswalls. How can you just let random hackers do this to your game? I'm slowly getting aggravated with the number of cheaters that play and I'm slowly losing respect for Bungie. Do something before it's too late.

Mr B, maybe they'll treat you with respect and not like some child when you learn to spell properly and actually warrant attention instead of flaming all the time. 90% of the posts from you now have been grief for months...yes, MONTHS. Is it any wonder you get ignored most of the time? I mean who in authority wants to respond to posts with irrelevant content and with insults along with swearing?

I know what you want to achieve; you've made that obvious for months now, but your stubborn mind can't seem to grasp that you're going the wrong way about it. You always seem to think you're right, and when someone challenges that (i.e the mod's posts) you swear and insult the person because you don't want to accept that for once, maybe you could be wrong. I think you need to step outside yourself for a moment and realise that you can't always have things your way. It's getting to the point now where you're just making a fool of yourself with these constant whines. If you think you're going to be some kind of "saviour" of Halo PC, then think again, and quit while you're not ahead. You're in the middle of your twenties, and should know by now (among the difference between your and you're) that there's some things you just can't accomplish. But then...maybe you haven't had the experience at all. And I'm not concerned what other members might think here, because they're most likely too young to realise what type of position these people can be in, hence the constant moans.

You overestimate yourself. You're just an easy target.

"Its a discussion board, you dont like it report it or stop whining."

So you choose to report it and still whine time and time again?

Halo is a decent game. But you're a constant critic that is always looking for something to complain about. You don't seem to be happy with anything, which really, is the way a critic works. But if you think you can do better, feel free to start some kind of revolution that will transform the gaming industry. However, I'm sure you're the type of person much more suited to an anonymous figure that criticises the way things happen, all from behind a screen, never to accomplish anything truly amazing.

Nuff said.
