Well I've always had my own scaling system: (I use this to 1:Make it simple and 2: Show off the sheer size of the Covenant technological capabilities)

Covenant Planetoid (High Charity): 800 km [Roughly 1/4 the size of our moon]
348km
Covenant Capital Ship (Super Carrier, Regrets Ship): 15 kmRegret's Carrier was an Assault Carrier - and the OP of the thread states that a Supercarrier is in fact 27km
Covenant Assault Carrier(Truth and Reconciliation): 5 kmAt least we've got the number right, but Truth and Reconciliation was a CCS-class Battlecruiser. Which are just under two kilometres long (1800m).
Halcyon Class Cruiser (Pillar of Autumn): 3 km1170m
Colony Battleship (Spirit of Fire): 1/2-2 kmA Phoenix-class Colony Ship like the Spirit of Fire is about 2500m long.
Covenant Corvette (Cruiser, escort [Like a tugboat]): 1 km Covenant Corvettes are the counterpart to the UNSC Frigate, but a bit bigger - 5-600m tops
UNSC Frigate (Forward Unto Dawn): 800 m478m
I understand most of these numbers are grossly inaccurate, but that's how I roll.Picking and choosing what you personally agree to be canon is one thing, but you've just invented your own as you go along.

"Find where the liar hides, so that I may place my boot between his gums!" - Rtas 'Vadum

Concentrated MAC rounds over the power core would destroy it - that is assuming you know the layout. Once those shields fail, I would imagine a SMAC would have sufficient momentum to pierce through Hull and deck. If it hits the power core (which would be huge, therefore difficult to miss), it would destroy it.

I do not think the shields would be stronger. If the Power core is the same size relative to the ship, then you could assume that the power output relative to ship size is the same for an Assault Carrier. Therefore the Shields would be no stronger. Also, this things inertia would be enormous. A lot of energy would be put into impulse engines. It would be slow and basically a sitting duck.

I am beginning to doubt its combat efficiency. If its core is the same ratio for power output to ship size, then one SMAC through engineering would do the trick.

It may have a longer range. Same size plasma torpedoes but a larger guidance system, unless the Covenant are dumb enough to increase the size and power of the torpedoes too.

Given how tactically and technologically inept the Covenant (particularly the Elites) are in general, they probably would scale up the plasma torpedoes.

Surely the inertia created by even a low-G manoeuvre would be enough to shear the ship in half? Those pirouettes done by the CCS Battlecruisers over New Alexandria were pretty insane.

here is a a link to a page comparing the super carrier to the assault carrier mentioned by buck by saying look at the size of that thing, but tbh the super carrier is a quadrillion times bigger. http://halo.wikia.com/wiki/Long_Night_of_Solace
someone fix link if it doesn't work ty.

Was anyone else disappointed that the Super Carrier was just an enlarged Assault Carrier? When I heard the mention of "Super Carrier" I was hoping for something more. Seems a shame to cut corners on something like that.

Going by the 'official' size of the Supercarrier, it's very close to that of the Assault Carrier.

It's likely that they are actually the same ship - a Supercarrier was intended for fleet engagements, and an Assault Carrier for planetary invasions. Hence the term 'Assault'.

Given the 27km size of the 'Supercarrier' in Reach, I feel the moniker 'Hypercarrier' would be more fitting - then the Supercarrier and Assault Carriers could remain side-by-side in their specialisations of similar tasks, and this would require no retcons.

I am sceptical of the length of this Super Carrier. At 27km it's pretty much the same size as the Unyielding Hierophant.

It's probably not quite as long as that - the Corvette in the video they use to scale it isn't fully docked with the Carrier, so is out of scale to start with. Then, to find the length of the Corvette, they put it next to the UNSC Frigate Savannah using Theatre (I think). It's out of scale there as well. It's likely to be much smaller, probably between 20 and 24km long.

Well, I say 'much'...

  • 09.29.2010 3:16 PM PDT

well that's hella HUGE...

I do believe that put all the Federation/Klingon[star trek], [Firefly], and almost all the Stargate ships to shame...except the ZPM hive which was like 32-35 km long...

Actualy if you see the stats of halo pedia correctly the supercarrier is over three times the size of an assult carrier like the "shadow of intent" infact well over that it says Approx. 27 kilometers (88,582 ft.)long

I think you will find regrets carrier along with "the shadow of intent" was only an assult carrier which looks identical to a supercarrier but is much smaller (5km) there have only been two sightings of supercarriers(27km) one on reach. also the ship in halo: CE "the truth and reconciliation" Which was a CCS class battlecruiser was only 1.7km long other sightings include Tsavo highway in halo 3 and "Deliver Hope" halo reach trailer.

A person CAN be a Halo fan AND a CoD fan aswell. Being a fan of one doesn't negate being a fan of the other.

Using my Halo Encyclopedia, the Covenant Supercarrier was 5,354m (17,570 ft) across. oh and opog, the Encyclopedia is Bungie canon, the cutscene must have made it seem inflated.

~B2

it may be Bungie canon but the games override other forms of canon (the games are priority 1 canon), so if the game said (for example) that Noble Six was 12ft tall and his fae was that of an Elites, then THAT would be canon, ad threfore override any books saying, for example that he was 2 feet tall and had no head

Game canon beats story canon. So the Supercarrier is indeed 34 Corvettes long, which is awesome.

"Game canon > Story canon" isn't necessary here, we've never had a measurement for a Supercarrier before. This is the first ever.

Books should be greater than games, because a book will never be toned down for gameplay. Weapon damage, moves, speed, jump height, health and shields strength - all of them are altered and engineered to make the game as satisfying as possible. The book will not. Ergo, Books > Games.

I have done measurements from both halo reach and ODST and have found that the supercarrier in ODST is 33.13409 miles long so the one in reach i calculated to be aprox. 37.89 miles long. i don't know how wide because I did not get enough info on the width. Oh and to find this out all you need is some basic geometry, and no im not a nerd im a freshmen!!!!

Stop arguing over this, its all over Halopedia and its very simple, Halopedia is the primary source for connon-related information on the Halo Universe, the Covenant Supercarrier, is 27 kilometers long, really I'm Right, just trust me, I am, Bungie isn't that adasious to cannon

Aaah, the heady days where people who stand to the hilt, and claim that a shipboard MAC fired a round at 40% light speed.

Or where someone claimed that plasma pistols had an identical fuel as a ship's point defence laser, by sourcing it to a Contact Harvest page that never mentioned a plasma pistol.

I've done some research.. the empire state building is 300M tall. going off that, an executor class star destroyer is 63.3.. and it looks like a a super carrier is about 25k meters in length.. 83 times the empire state building. High Charity appears to be about 1000 times the empire state building.. if my math is correct. aaand the ark is 424,333 times as large as the empire state building. So going off that.. there all -blam!- huge. Hope that helps

The person who said participating is important, not winning, obviously never won anything.

I like it better the Super Carrier being 25km long. It would expand even futher on how deadly the Covenant is in naval combat.

On a related note, ******'s mom has really nice boobs, and it doesn't take much booze or encouragement to get her to let the puppies out of the pen...if you know what I mean...

It can't be bigger than an elephant. I mean don't you see how many elephants can fit in there. *Goes to zoo, puts elephants in supercarrier, runs out of elephants*

  • 11.18.2010 1:36 PM PDT

according to Halopedia (impressively accurate site btw) it is 27 km from back to front. Biggest conventional ship I've ever heard of in any universe.

  • 11.18.2010 2:02 PM PDT

"Were it so easy"

27 kilometer (88,582ft)long and can hold up to several thousand crew members, and if u wanted to know the super carrier name was Long Night of Solace, weird same as the campaign mission, ironic right? and the carriers held up to 7 energy projecters, or well known as the glassing beam. so there your answer, your welcome.
