What I find, is the thrill of huge open areas. Just huge firefights like in the AotCR.
Halo 2, just didn't make me smile and say: This is awesome. Come on, dude, catch up!
I mean, like with Halo 1, you don't start with weapons... So you basically get a feel of desperate... Whatever. Then you get a weapon, and then you do some serious ass kicking.
With Halo 2, it's just straight into the shooting.
Delta Halo wasn't as fun as I expected it to be. Like, it was really cool, the stuff, but it just fell behind Halo 1.
I'm still thinking that it's Assault Rifle. The whole solid gun you use in a fire-fight. So it's not two little SMG's that feel like they're going to have a weapon jam any time.
Maybe Alpha Halo is cooler than Delta Halo, and a Covenant ship assualt is just more fun that raiding High Charity or something.
Or maybe just the sheer simplicity of it. You have a gun, you see the enemy you charge in and frag them real good. It's just so simple. There's always weapons around. Unlike in the level High Charity, I only had a Plasma pistol to fight the Flood for most of the level. You don't have to worry about anything. You haven't anything to lose.
And like Bungie said, those 30 second thrill points are much needed. Going down into the dark to find the Silent Cartographer. All those hunters and invisible elites.
Also, in Halo 2, you're really always the one on offense. You're the one who's always moving. In Halo 1, you can just sit back in one comfortable area, and mow down Covies by the hundreds.
Lastly, there's the vehicle usage. I'm not saying that the hi-jacking option is too bad, but there are just so many vehicles. There are like 4 Warthogs in one level, and when they are destroyed, you don't feel like getting another one. You don't feel the appreciation like you did when Foehammer dropped off a 600 Ton Steel Death machine.
