Pez, I asked you once, and now I'm done being nice, quit with the flame, and let his theory thread continue on as planned... Also, the whole thing about the pistol, that was a simple mistake, don't act like it was the dumbest thing in the world. We've all made mistakes, even you Pez.

Heh heh, ya think? The guy wouldn't stop saying "luv harrassment" after my posts for a whole day!
I forgot about that! he he luv harrassment...sweet.

That doesn't prove Halo was there before the flood out break. Halo could've been built after to study them and contain them.

Nothing is conclusive proof, until Halo 2 comes out -- these are after all merely opinions. But I think it tends to fit the evidence.

Nice thread Jim! Everything was backed up and seemed very plausible. Must have taken alot of studying eh? Ecpecially when you related Halo to our own history, it gave me the creeps just thinking how complex bungie's storylines are. 0_o.
Oh, and seven halos to wipe clean the gaxaxy? Spooky.

I like the fact that someone actually made a graphical representation. Thank you poena.dare.

And thanks for the kind words everyone - I may put in my thoughts of the Foreunner Glyphs when I next make a topic. But that may be a while -- they're hard to figure out.

"This installation's research facilities are most impressive! Perhaps we'll have time to see them later." -343 Guilty Spark

If the monitor planned on destroying all of life why would he offer to give the Master Chief a tour of the installation knowing that he would also be wiped out after activating Halo.

This didn't seem to occur to the Monitor - and I think it's because the Halo's weapon doesn't affect beings that inhabit the Halo. You don't build a rocket launcher that detonates the rockets in 2 feet right? The inhabitants of the ring have to be immune - So 343 assumed that MC would be around after the firing, and would be bored with no galaxy to go back to for a while. That's why it's an ARK theory.

This is great. Your theories are sound and you backed them up perfectly. Most of all, they are possible nad believable. Excellent job.

Well I wanted it to be accessible to everyone - so all the quote I've used are from the Game alone -- but I did check in The Flood to make sure nothing conflicted.

That seems very true since the last time they activated it was 100,000 years ago.

EDIT: im talking about the activation of halo wouldnt destroy the stuff on the ring

Nice article Jim. I agree with your conclusion about the Halos being ark-like worlds for humans or forerunner or whoever was around to be saved by them if they fired.

However, I wanted to throw some information your way and see how it sits with the big scheme of things. (Mainly the time period of -blam!- sapiens and local years)

In case anyone doesn't know, there is a significant reason why the gas giant in which Halo orbits is called Threshold. Gas giants can only form at a certain distance from the stars they orbit due to the certain values of gravity acting upon interstellar dust when planets begin to form in solar systems. If you look up the actual event of the formation of a gas giant, you'll find out that the critical values of gravity are collectively refferred to as the Threshold (this is not a generic term, it is very specific in this field). One may deduce from this that Gas giants are mostly all at least a uniform distance from the stars they orbit. Taking Jupiter for an example, (the closest of our gas giants) it takes about 11 earth years for the planet to make one full pass around the sun. Assuming this all remains true for whatever system Halo and Threshold are located in, the 100,000 local years of Threshold would be more like 1,000,000 years on earth.

In closing, I will endeavor to explore more about the origins of humanity on earth in order to investigate a better correlation between the two timelines.

Great points - I however surmise that the environments on Halo are relatively synthetic, if random at times - I believe that to keep the inhabitants acclimated, the seasonal attributes of the Halo would be "programmed" to act on a level similar to Earths -- The only question left is - Is 343GS referring to Halo's seasonal Change cycle, or the revolution of Threshold??

Also - if you go by our solar system's standards - one year for a gas giant can be anywhere from 12 to 165 years... Which side to we err on? If it's close enough that we didn't freeze -- It could probably be less - depending on the density and type of the star.

yes i would like to hear this, DIE HRD SPARTAN. nice name, btw. the only way you could make it anymore cliched and unoriginal would be to put "Master Chief" or "117" in there.

I also want to see Nero's thoughts on the time measurement,

  • 08.11.2004 9:16 PM PDT

So this is what you've been working on;)

I have a question, or two, for you. You seem to show, as the books do, that 343 GS isn't quite what we've made him out to be. I think many of us simply thought of 343 GS as the "CEO of Halo", when really, if I catch your drift, he's the "Janitor of Halo". That is, it's his purpose to keep things running smoothly... I may have misunderstood you on this point??? Anyways, back to the question. Where do you suppose 343 GS is headed off to at the end of Halo (1), and why?

By the way, great stuff:)

-Eagle 117

P.S.
I'm sure you have more "ideas" worth adding to the Halo/Ark discussion. Why don't you let us have a peak inside your mind:)

I think "Janitor" of Halo is more than an apt conclusion Eagle - And this is only a small, small, part of what I've been working on. But it's a big pain. I want to explore the idea that 343 is simply trying to jump onto something to do - and now that the only world he's known (for at least 101,217 local years) is gone - so I surmise he's tracking Cortana - in a slightly malevolent - stalking kind of way.

  • 08.11.2004 9:21 PM PDT

I'll be on my own side.

well Eagle,i think that GS is going off to another Halo installation, for unknown reasons. think about it,if you were GS,and your Halo ring was destroyed, would you hang around for very long?? maybe he's the one who gave the coordiantes for Earth to the Covenant.

i know they got the coordinates somewhere else in the books, but i think Bungie would make the game so that people who didnt read the books can play the game and understand the story without having to go buy the books.
