You don't kick a man when they're down, so don't teabag me when I'm dead!
I can't put my finger on wahy I don't like Reach, but I'm gettina an idea why: It seems to be the start of a downward spiral towards other generic multiplayer FPSs.
Halo has always been unique to me, and I loved Halo 3, and still play it now occasionally. Unofrtunately, if you imagined all the Hlo games in a line graph showing how they separate from other FPS games in terms of vehicular combat, shield systems, weapons etc., Halo consistently sticks above the majority. Although Reach is still quite unique, it's the first one to let a side down, and I fear it is the first game in an undeniable trend towards the realms of generic FPS gameplay.
It started with the loadouts at the starts of games, then I noticed the attention-to-detail wasn't quite what it was in Halo 3 (something that should not be confused for good graphics, which I could care less about). The vehicles now blow up quicker (taking away the vehicular combat focus, if only slightly), the storyline doesn't fit in with the series at all IMO (I don't even consider it part of the Halo canon), and it just feels like a big slip. I'd hate to think that Bungie would ever rest on their laurels, but maybe they did a bit with this one?
It's not a BAD game at all. It's just it's not as unique as the other Halo games, and some would argue, not really unique at all.
Now, Halo 3... I still consider Halo 3 to be the best game I have ever played in my life. It fits in perfectly with the story (apart from the very beginning, which was quickly cleared up for me when I asked on the forums), the ending is amazing (and reminiscient of the original), the voicework isn't bad ever (apart from maybe Miranda Keyes's "to war" line)...
It still amazes me to this day., I look at it, and think "holy -blam!-, that game is nearly four years old now"
I do the same with halo CE though. Seriously, ten years old?? wtf Bungie, it would be less awesome if you'd have somehow physically invented a time machine and used it to release Halo CE in the past... it's so ahead of its time IMO.
But anyway, Reach is not bad, it'sjust the first games that doesn't really give me the Halo experience, if you know what I mean.
