Reach takes less skill than all the other halos.
Skill-wise- ( and also the best halos in order imo except switch halo 1 and 2 because halo 2 was just epic)
Halo 1 > Halo 2 > Halo 3 > Halo Reach
bungie made the games easier as time went on. try playing halo 1 or 2 then switch to reach. auto-aim is ridiculous in reach.
Don't forget about fairness.
Halo 1 was definitely fair, since all the weapons were practical in use and effective.
Halo 2 was hard, truly difficult (not this -blam!- they try to pass off as Reach Legendary), but was still fair since you could kill all the enemies without suffering repercussions (i.e. flying scenery splatters you). In this game, you almost always will die by the Covies hand. Also, the Jackals snipers aren't 100% accurate. Maybe 90%.
Halo 3 was often unfair, but it still had legitimate difficulty. Jackals suffered from plasma pistol battery drain, Jackal snipers weren't near omniscient, Brutes were easy to assassinate (realistic, but made it easy), and Flood could easily be destroyed (realistic, but made it easy). As for Chieftains, I particularly enjoyed trying to get sticks on them. I didn't have a problem with their shields reflecting grenades since I could easily assassinate them.
Same thing with Halo 3 ODST. The Jackal sniper's beam rifle did less damage on ODSTs and you could practically skip through most of the levels. Not to mention the true return of the Halo 1 pistol (a little recoil, but that's reasonable, since you're playing as an ODST).
But Reach was just an abomination. Unfairness at it's highest.
Enemies have cheap advantages, now very noticeable (i.e. Ultra Grunt helmets, Jackals have one less cutout, Jackals charge their plasma pistol way too fast, Jackals can shoot immediately after a plasma pistol overcharge, Grunt Minors and Jackal Minors have way too much health even on Heroic, unshielded Elite Majors don't recoil after being meleed, etc.).
AI is hardly improved. They only look improved and often have near omniscience in certain instances.
Reach is absolute garbage. I don't say this because of armor abilities. I say this because of the aforementioned things.
The only redeeming factors it had was LNoS's mission start, Tip of the Spear's starting cutscene, and Ultra Elites.
