Rank does not determine skill.

Hi I'm playing Halo 1 sometimes on my new computer with windows 7, since I've never tried it on my new computer I thought it would be cool.

However, when I'm in the game, the game lags, the weapon animations, the players, lags, it's like the FPS is really bad. I did not have this problem on my old XP, and it's not due to bad specs, because my XP had worse specs. I really wanna fix this so I can enjoy Halo 1 without lag, anyone got a solution?

My specs should be way above fine to handle Halo 1 on highest specs.

Thanks.

Yeah. That's right. I don't have a 50 in H3. I never got Onyx in Reach. If a game sucks too much, I won't even bother trying for such trivial "accolades". Besides, I've done way more things that take far more skill and talent than anything that can be done in a video game.

Using an nVidia card? Sometimes nVidia cards don't handle the way HPC draws decals or particles very well. Disable one, or the other, or both and see if there's an improvement.

What do you mean by disabling one, or the other?

Yes I'm using an nVidia GeForce G210 512 MB. But this also happens my friend who uses ATI 1024 MB, don't know the brand though.

Could you be more specific? I really appreciate this, thanks!

Grenades are like RAM, you can never have too much

under graphic options set particles and decals to none

Okay, turning off Decals and Particles didn't work, however there is less lag when I'm running 1024 x 7(Something)

Instead of 1280 x 1024.

And it mostly only lags in Multiplayer. Not that It's so bothering anymore, I guess it doesn't really matter. However it would be fun to play it as smooth as XP does any way.

Decals and particles didn't work. At least not for me.

Thanks anyway, help appreciated. Oh and Halo 1 ruined my friends computer, however he's having an x64 Windows 7, while I have x32. While he was playing other games like WoW and CSS it started lagging like Halo did and didnt work properly.

It would be cool if Bungie could release a Win7 patch for users who experience this kind of lag or trouble. They shouldnt let their classic collect dust just because it's old. :P

Have you guys tried updating your drivers for your graphics cards? I run a 210m on my laptop with Windows 7 x64 and it runs fine in multiplayer. A list of your pc specs should help too (run dxdiag.exe from the start menu to get that list fast).

if it caused your friends computers to lag, it was probably running to high and overheated them, try turning the screen res down to 800x600

Yeah the graphics drivers are up to date.

Here is a list of my PC Specs :

Windows 7 Home Premium 32 Bit
Pentium(R) Dual-Core CPU E5200 @ 2.50 GHz
3072 MB RAM (3 GB)
NVIDIA GeForce G210 512 MB
Or just go Here
To see the full specs

Those are the manafacturer specs and I haven't changed or upgraded any specs.

Well the thing is, his computer is alot better than mine is, overheating shouldnt be a problem for his computer. After all, he uses one of ATI's modern graphics cards and his computer costed around 1090$, that would be around 11000 Swedish Chrones. A expensive computer yes, and he uses a Quad Core rated really high.

I think it is a x64 problem, because my other friend who tried running Fallout 3 had to experience alot of crashes, while I at my x32 system experienced none. We found out it was a CPU problem, a value that was wrong. But I had none.

Anyways, I'm still glad your helping me out, but on my computer, there's no difference with lag when I switch between 800x600 and 1024x7(Something)

Looking at your specs, I really don't see anything of concern. Although you may have ruled out the possibility of potential overheating, nVidia GeForce cards do have the tendency to get fairly hot without proper ventilation or efficient fans. Different games on the PC can and will have different results in the case of video card overheating, but for the most part it always traces back to frame issue.

Go here to download HWMonitor, a virus-free program that will appropriately monitor the internal temperatures of your computer. If you've got the time, open up the program, boot up Halo and come back to this thread reporting your results. If the nVidia GeForce G210 core is running hot from a range of anywhere from 70-100 degrees Celsius, I would definitely consider that being the main reason for the frame rate drops you're having.

Good luck.

well i run on a x32, but fallout crashes like hell because its just a (fun) bad game, i suggest EVGA precision, its got to be one of the best monitoring devices, but it costs a bit if you dont have an EVGA manufactured card

Not to undermine you or anything but have you checked your task manager to make sure something running isn't destroying your cpu usage? Also, if it is mostly in multiplayer, maybe your firewall is too strong? Try disabling it when you play halo.

Nope, CPU usage is at normal. I did have a virus or a process on my old computer that made my CPU go in 100%. It was lagging like IW's bad servers. But nope, nothing really there, and my Windows Firewall is off, I rely on Comodo Antivirus + Firewall, but they arent blocking Halo. It's not really ''Lag'' in that kind of way.

Let me explain if you got it wrong or something.

Everything, well let's say the Halo Map and everything and all, movies in HD smoothly. However, animations like the gun shooting, reloading, meeleing, seeing a warthog get hit by a rocket doing a barrel roll, somehow lags. But everything else, still HD. It's kind of hard to explain.

And my friend gets the same problem. I'm gonna try on my dad's XP and see if it runs without such visual lag.

Hmmm have you tried a fresh re-install? Sometimes that is the best solution for random issues. Like I said I run the game on a 210m on my laptop with no issues and my cpu is way weaker. My desktop uses a Ati 5770 and has no issues with the game. Try a re-install and on a side not make sure you clean your computer of dust because that'll mess -blam!- up fast lol

Nah I'm gonna try it. But I mean I have plenty of space left on my harddrive and I shoudlnt have any viruses. I'm gonna try that, thanks :)

This is the average H2 Fanboy.
Xfire: JacobGRocks.
50 in H2/H3? Great, but you still fail at this.

Try going into your GPU settings and changing the setting next to the spinning logo from quality to performance.

Also, it's a nvidia issue. Halo PC/CE lags some on my GTX 260, but not my laptop's ATI 5650.

Well, it didn't really do a extreme difference, but it might work. Didn't see any visual difference. Turning down from 1280 x 1024 to 1024 x 768 helps alot. I could call my problem solved, but that doesn't really explain why my friends computer who has a modern version of an ATI gfx card, still get this kind of lag. Then he has a Quadcore AMD, and x64 Windows 7. While I have Dual Core Intel (I think) and a x32 Windows 7. I'm gonna expirement with these help things and see if the problems solved even on 1280 x 1024. Thanks :)
