I think this issue needs to be addressed. It should go without saying, but it seems like it isnt going at all. People need to stop being so nasty to the new guys. A prime example was 10 minutes ago, this new guy posted two threads in New Mombasa, one about ILB and another about The Flood in Halo 2. Of course he would be unaware that these topics have been discussed to death, and people immediately began flaming this poor guy just for unintentionally posting 2 well-discussed topics.

Any way, my point is don't give the new guys a hard time. Everyone was new once, made some mistakes etc. Well, instead of punishing them from their mistakes, help them learn from them. If they post something in the wrong forum, politley inform them that discussions about XYZ go in Forum A. If they post something that has been discussed alot, either post something to add to the conversation, inform them that the paticular topic has been discussed a lot, or failing that don't post at all.We are all Halo fans here... Lets share the love!

One offence is OK, but they really should read the rules.

The Classifieds are under fire from new people thinking they're Gods.

Exactly. If we direct them to the right places in a polite manner without flaming them they will be more likely to listen to us. And besides, how many threads about a completely new subject can there honestly be in a day?

With B.B. gone, the passion of Bungie.net has lessened.

I only wish people (old and new) would read what's on the forums before they post a thread.... And read what the forums are about.

But you're right, new folk should not be flamed for their inexperience and sometimes newness-induced ignorance.

I don't mind any new people, I just hate the people who's first post in a forum is a poll about everyone's "favorite weapon", or " favorite Map" it bugs me.

Unfortunately it's going to be a "problem" that we face around here for a while as more and more fans are drawn into our community. But hey, that's a good thing, you all were drawn in at one point or another.

Granted not everyone is as "with it" as some of the others, but I do agree we should cut them all a little slack and resist the urge to immediately resort to a mean or nasty response.

I wouldn't blame a new person for coming here and asking the same questions over and over... topics blow by really fast and we don't have any search mechanism right now so it's a little overwhelming for newcomers (and even some vets).

It will get better, but we'll always have some people that will require special handling. I encourage you all to help extend that welcoming hand and help us grow our army. =)

Indeed. Get the 'slower' members to enlist. Because, remember - armies need cannon fodder. :P

Less war, more love. Until World Domination.

bah

How about this:
New guys can't make threads for a few days. They can post and stuff, but no threads. This will give them a few days to see a big range of topics. Or maybe for the first week, they can make ONE thread a day, but make a large number of posts in current threads. This way, they participate, but they aren't making all the annoying new guy topics we've all grown to fear.

I like this idea, but I think that if Bungie goes for it, it would also be a good idea to have a little “disclaimer” pop up when a new user joins that he/she/it would be required to read before going on to the main forums. This could explain the way things are going to go down, explain the rules, why the person is unable to make new topics, etc. so that person wont simply join, find that he cannot make a new topic, and leave. Then again, the kinds of folks we’re talking about aren’t liable to read the rules anyway, so…

Regardless, I still think we aught to somehow make the Forum FAQ and Rules required reading for all new members. Or, perhaps, something along the lines of the PCG forum guidelines. Just stick something like that at the top of the (for a lack of a better word) forum navigation page.

My new offence was asking about the Yellow Banshee. Oh, fun days. The problem is new people THINKING they're important enough to spam/flame others.
