In the latest OXM, it says that the weapon that the Elites in this screen are using are called Covenant "Carbines". Any word from Bungie if this is really the official name for it? Or is it just a name that OXM gave it?

It's sweet either way. =D

"The world is a dangerous place, not because of those who do evil, but because of those who look on and do nothing." Albert Einstein
"You must not lose faith in humanity. Humanity is an ocean; if a few drops of the ocean are dirty, the ocean does not become dirty." Gandhi

I believe that is all official Bungie info. How else could OXM have so many pages of cool new stuff.

I'm also glad they mentioned it was not a sniper rifle, just a Covenant weapon to counter the battle rifle, and the fact that it could be reloaded might suggest that we can reload plasma weapons now maybe? (that is, if it is a plasma weapon)...

Only bungie will reveal if the gun is called that or not....

They did reveal that. That's the whole point of the OXM article, to release lots of cool info from Bungie. Just like that GameInformer Article that we aren't allowed to post scans of.

Yeah, I can't wait to try out that baby. I think they did mention that it does use solid projectile ammo, so that would explain the reloading.

Yea...I can actually confirm that. Gholsbane and I saw Robt modeling that gun when we visited bungie studios last year. Mehve slipped the name.

Gholsbane thought it was the mercury bow. Heh.

Robt was like the only guy working there on the weekend, so that gun was pretty much the only halo 2 related thing we saw. So don't go asking me if master chief gets a girlfriend in halo 2. I just don't know.

It could also use removable battery "cartridges" to fire. For example, each battery could be shot 30 times or so before it needs to be reloaded. Much like an (for lack of better words) energy-clip.

The word you were looking for might be power-cell.
Or mayby humans have learned how to replace them.

Ah, that would be interesting. Now you don't have to pick up a new gun every time a plasma weapon is on empty.

  • 05.04.2004 11:14 AM PDT

Also, I don't think the new gun willl be called the "Covenant Carbine", but "Carbine". I just wanted to point that out.

Anyhow, nice to see you around again Scimitarex.

Yeah but that would raise the question: how do we get them?

Heh, that's why I called it the Covenant "Carbine". Not "Covenant Carbine". =P

And yeah, good to see ya too. =D

What "them" are you talking about? The the energy clips? The energy clips would be just like magizines, I guess.

Hey, I had an idea...

What if the Carbine's projectiles are these weird-green-ball-thingies? That would explain a little bit.

Those "thingies" are actually a Plasma Pistol hitting the wall behind him. I don't think the Humans would have found a way to make energy cells or whatever you want to call them to reload any of the Plasma Weapons. The reason I think this is because they don't know anything about it or how it works. Only Cortana knows that and she still hasn't found a place to drop all the data she took in from the Covenant ships and all that.

You're wrong. Those are not plasma pistol bolts. In the E3 and X03 vids, they show grunts and Jackals firing plasma pistols, and they are the same bright neon green color, and don't have the "ball-thingies" on the end.

Actually I'm pretty sure they're from Plasmapistols. Look in the GI magazine, in the picture of the level with all the concrete pillars there is a Spartan shooting out those things and he at least seems to be holding a plasma pistol.

I think they just changed the look of plasma fire rather than those green balls being something new entirely.
