Yeah you all know it. ODST really was a test bed for many reach features. I wonder what would have been different in reach if everyone hadn't complained about ODST, or like if everyone hated the health system.

so how do you think reach would have been different if the community reacted differently? Would we have had ODST2 if people were creaming their pants over it?

Think before you post

I dont think we woulda ever gotten an odst 2, no matter what the reaction, reach is essentially an odst 2 anyway

I honestly don't believe the reaction to ODST made any impact on Reach's development.

I don't remember anyone praising the return of health pack. Not a whole lot of complaining either but no praise, thats for sure.

Same goes for the omission of dual wields. I don't recall anyone being particularly happy that they were gone but it carried over to Reach anyway.

Sure, ODST started fire fight and it was a hit, but Bungie claimed to have wanted to incorporate the mode in Halo 3. Before ODST Gears 2's horde and Call of Duty World at War's -blam!- Zombies were already big hits, so Fire Fight was already guaranteed to succeed. They didn't need ODST to find out weather or not to put a co-op survival mode in Reach.

Nothing else particular to ODST seemed to get carried over to Reach.

The most common criticism leveled against ODST was for it's lack of new content. It was just a five hour campaign with a co-op survival mode. Bungie sure as hell wasn't going to release Reach like that weather or not ODST was released or not.

Well, there was that and the annoying ass beeping when your health was low. So yeah, I guess it took ODST for Bungie to learn that never ending loud beeping annoying. Although, I seriously doubt that would have made it into Reach either way. It seemed like something they did just to differentiate the ODST from the Spartan, but who knows.

Major C.B.

Reach should have been ODST 2. The story fits in to the universe in "that way" where it seems like an ODST side story rather than something that necessitates a Spartan squad. I would have been fine if Carter = Buck, and this detailed Buck's mission and thus, escape from Reach.

odst also brought back the scoped pistol. I remember people were pretty happy about that. Do you guys feel that they did a better job in reach with the character development? The characters in ODST all seemed like stereotypes blurting out random lines that wouldn't normally be said.

Recon armor was not gifted or bestowed upon me. I earned it through blood, sweat, and tears. Road to Recon complete, on to the next challenge. Halo 3: 1750/1750, ODST: 1000/1000, Reach: 1400/1400.

I'm fairly certain that the reason there are so many similarities between the two is because Bungie was trying to shy away from the overpowered main protagonist. They've stated that Master Cheif gets rediculously stronger over the course of the first three games and that they wanted players to feel vulnerable in combat once more. Things like fall damage and health packs allow for that.
