I've just done this.
He lay on his back. The sun was hot on his lips, he gently took off his helmet being carful not to touch the 6cm gash on his face. He grunted as the helmet scrapped it and blood seemed out, he was getting clumsy. He new he was dead lower down his armour was a Energy sword cut, he had taken the blow to save an innocent civilian. He hoped the woman had escaped.
He relaxed, If he was going to die he would like to die comfortably. His thoughts swirled around in his head bringing up memories that he which should of best been kept buried. He reminisced about his training to be a Spartan II. He had regretted joining up for the program. Dr.Halesey had approached him but his family had saved him from this, his inevitable fate.
Why? Why had he decided to follow her and join the program, the only Spartan II who had volunteered, Oh! How he begged he could of changed that. He still remembered the same words Dr.Halesey had said to him, the cold heartless words "You're the soldier we needed you to be". Is that all he was? A Soldier ? He wished his parents were by his side so for once as a Spartan he could Be Human.
Two figures emerge from the now dampened light. They were blurred but he could still make out the purple of the needlers, for once he actually blessed his Spartan eyesight. He smiled, his time had come.
Chapter two.
Spartan 115-Sven awaited death as the two armed figures approached him. Unfortunately it was not his time, he heard the muffled voices of a male and a female. He wiped the blood from his face and he could immediately see better. He smiled as John and Amanda shouted "There he is!"
John stood guard as Amanda held out her hand, which he gracefully accepted and she pulled him up. Amanda aplied some medic foam to block any blood loss. John reported the situation to him. He learned that all human resistance on this side of the planet had been pushed back to a military airbase. It was being used to ship Civilians off the planet to relative safety in space, closely guarded by "The Centre Of The Galaxy"- A battle cruiser which was here for maintenance to its guns. The only reason the covenant hadn't been blasted to pieces already.
"It's a three hour march to that airbase" Amanda said. "That's one hell of a march" Sven said as he looked on at the horizon.
"Lets get marching" John replied. Sven sighed but accepted it quickly enough and they set off north.
He thought to himself that is where he had ordered the civilian, She should of made it, Hopefully.
Chapter three
The team had marched straight for an hour now. They were being slowed down by a dense jungle. They approached the edge of a cliff and took cover behind a rock. Sven took out his enhanced vision binoculars and quickly peered round the corner. He was horrified; he turned back to John and Amanda. "twenty civilians dead one elite"
John stated 2Must of fought back"
"Yeah" Amanda seemed the worst affected, pointless bloodshed; the worst part to Sven was that she was right.
Sven was about to move up when John shouted "Wait!" At that moment four elite honour guards de-cloaked. He saw a civilian twitch. Immediately one of them pulled out an energy sword and silenced him, forever. This honour guard appeared to be the lead one with a gold highlight around his armour. He reached down and pulled out a man from the mound of bodies. He was alive but barely.
The elite was shouting words to him that none of them could understand. The team wasn't about to let the man die. John gestured with his had to "Circle round" The team replied with a gentle nod and they were off.
Short chapter this time (4)
The Elite formally named Ragum Tihge stared deep into the human's eyes. The petty human was shaking violently but he couldn't escape his grasp, he chuckled and so did his hunting party.
Suddenly bullets started spraying everywhere spelling one word to him, ambush. He droped the human. In his head he knew his party was doomed, being a recognised general he knew this was inevitability so he cloaked and disappeared into the hedge's, giving him time to escape.
The last thing he heard as he ran ever faster was the screams of his fellows shortly followed by silence. Ragum stood there emotionless for a second then carried on walking. No room for emotions their sacrifice was necessary.
Chapter five
John checked the elite bodies then the human ones. They were all dead except the one man they had saved. Amanda slowly knelt beside him "Are you alright?"
The only words that came out was the odd, shaken "tha...thank you" Amanda tried questioning him put it was useless, he was in shock. She simply said "Come with us" He obviously understood that because he stood up straight away.
Sven was staring into the forest something disturbed him. Turning round he shouted "Let's move!"
Overhead a pelican flied past. The four reacted quickly and chased after it. The forest wasn't very big and soon they were out of it.
Ahead of them lied a large rocky plain which looked similar to the swamplands back on Sven's home planet.
John lighted a flare and the bright green attracted the Pelican's attention. It turned around and landed nearby the pelican. They rushed to the back to hitch a ride. A marine was waiting for them. John questioned him "I've got one civilian is there room for him on the pelican" The marine replied "Yes if he stands, but only one sorry!"
"No problem, we can make the journey! Just take him and get to the airbase". The man dived onto the pelican as it started to take off". "Good luck" the marine's last words before the pelican dulled any noise. The team would need it, the evacuation ships would take off soon.
Chapter six (About 2-3 more left now)
Sven was running faster than ever now, they had to get to the ships. He stopped in front of him was a large cliff face. The fighting must be on the other side because the crackle of gunshots and burning plasma bolts became ever more apparent. Amanda stared at the wall and abruptly said "Lets start climbing" she was more determined than ever now and John and Sven liked that so they rushed after her.
They climbed the cliff in no time and stared out to get a grasp of their surroundings. The huge plain was occupied by advancing covenant forces and a small pocket of marines were keeping them at bay. Sven commented on what he saw "Best stick to the cliff on the right and then regroup with the marines" John and Amanda nodded and they jumped down to ground level. They all deactivated any lights as to not draw attention to themselves. It was getting dark but the flash of weapons fire marked out where they were.
John grabbed Sven and Amanda by their shoulders. They were confused for a moment but understood, a spirit drop ship flew right above them and dropped off its troops just round the corner.
"Damn" Sven shouted "Their blocking our way!"
"There is only one way to those marines and that airbase" Amanda pulled out the shotgun she was carrying on her back. The three readied their weapons and raced round the corner.
Three elites were stood on a taller rock, speaking down to the grunts. The team sprung, pulling out their knives they dug them deep down into the back of the elites necks, they fell silently. The grunts panicked, some ran others pulled out their pistols but either way they could not escape the hail of shrapnel being unleashed onto them.
As soon as it had started it was over. The Spartans could just make out the marines and behind them the airbase. "Lets give those marines a hand" John whispered as the three charged to their aid.
Chapter seven
"Take cover" Sgt. Mendeleev shouted to his marines as a wraith fire a direct shot at them. They obeyed him. It hit the tall rock they were using as cover as well as the destroyed warthog, the only things keeping them alive.
The Sgt heard a sound and swivelled round to face the new threat. Spartans! The three Spartans approached him. One asked him to access the situation. Mendeleev replied to him, "We are all that's left stopping the covenant but we have limited ammo"
The Spartan questioned him again "What about the ships!"
"Ten minuets to launch!" It was becoming increasingly difficult to talk over the various noises on the battlefield.
The Spartans turned around to each other and talked non-stop for a minuet. He just made out "One of us has to" and "I will"
The Spartan announced to him his name, John. "Marines fall back to the ships, Amanda will hold this spot for as long as she can"
"Long enough for you to escape" she replied as she set up a sniper that was lying on the ground. "Good" the sergeant said and then now group of six set off towards the airbase.
Chapter eight (one left)
8 Minuets
John and Sven made it to the door of Airbase closely followed by the marine squad who, by then were gasping for breath. Three stories to get to the hanger. "Let's move" Marines sounded annoyed but knew it was necessary.
Two marines dropped their guard and raced to the stairs. Sven shouted but it was too late. An Elite de-cloaked and plunged his fist into one of them and his sword into the other then cloaked back disappearing. A spray of bullets hit the wall where the elite had stood, to no use. The marines lay on the ground dead.
"Come on, we have five minuets" All of the marines except the sergeant stood there sobbing at the loss. The Spartans and the sergeant carried on, they were dead weight.
Ragum Tihge climbed the ventilation shaft, with luck he could make it to the hanger before they took off and slaughter them.
He emerged at the hanger. Climbing out he saw the two of the soldiers who had killed his hunting party, "Time to end this!"
