You can read about the contest and view some of the awesome entries here: 117 Words Winners and Worthy Contenders

The entries range from sad, to funny, to frightening to just plain bizarre, and with very few exceptions, they are wonderful pieces and make for excellent reading. Entries come from all over the Halo community. There’s even one from Halo fictioneer Eric Trautmann (who edited our Artbook, the Halo novels and a multitude of other stuff). Halo-related prizes are being sent to the winners shortly.

But there’s a twist in this tale. You see, Stuntmutt, one of the organizers, asked yours truly to add a submission to help drum up popularity for the contest. Had I known then what I know now, I’d have done it with the caveat that mine was “for example only.” Because, heh, cough, I actually won…. The quorum (allegedly) stripped the authors’ names before submitting the entries to a panel of judges and according to Stuntmutt, the judging was blind.

So I officially declare my entry moot, and award whatever I get to the worthiest next-contender, to be decided by the beautiful Stuntmutt and the talented Jillybean. And I still reckon this is an elaborate early April Fool’s. And to be honest, there were LOADS better entries than mine. Stan’s in particular made me laugh out loud.

here was mine, that i never entered....

They ran.
As fast as they could, through the fog, the bushes, the murky swamp water... never slowing down.
Muffled rifle fire echoed through the trees behind them. Still, they kept going, thrashing blindly amongst the foliage.
A light rain began to fall, drizzling a cool mist across their armor.
What they had seen...
Never had the run like this. No amount of Human vermin could ever scare them away. Except...
The Demon. But those things... That was not the Demon. They were much, much worse...
A lone Pelican saw them flee as it descended to the swamp floor.
They ignored this new threat, running blindly past it.
It's single occupant muttered to himself,
"Well enough alone."

lol, i suppose there's always next year. and Frankie, your's was good... but yeah, if they didn't count Trautmann's, then how did yours slip in there..?

hey, when's our video tour of the new Bungie pad?

I'll be on my own side.

The best ones were Shishka's White Light, Eric Trautmann's Last Ballad of the UNSC Leonidas, and Tum-Tut Mantis's The Arbiter's Sentence

here's mine. i made 2, one kinda like frankie's (sorry frankie), and one that everyone can relate to.

Puppy Chasing its tail

The planet spun. Everything Shook. The world was a very scary place. Bullets and plasma fired overhead, and yelling in different tongues tried to drown the noise. But the ground began shaking and spinning less, and the noise drifted away, replaced by a fast and rythmic beating. It got louder and louder, until nothing else was audible, except for the whooshing of air. Soon, it was felt just as much as it was heard.
Suddenly everything shook violently and a cloud of dust covered a small area. Then the world disappeared, and only a light blue was visible.
"Get up, Wawaz! We're leaving!" Everything focused and he started moving. "Me can't believe you ran in circles again!"

Story 2

This happened to you

Sneaking as quietly as possible, the Master Chief thanked that he was in forest-like settings. His armor fit right in, making him very difficult to see. A doorway where he needed to get to was protected by two Brutes, but he only had one sniper round left. No other ammo.
But he did have a solution. He always did. But his one shot would come afterwards. He just needed to get closer. And when he took out the Brutes, he could take their weapons and keep going without delay.
Pinging a plasma grenade, the Master Chief threw it at the closer Brute. It hit the Brute's gun and hit the ground, alerting them. Oh crap...
