I live in the boonies so I do not have many people to play Halo with, but everyone I do play with I can own... I began to think I was the best... I went online with X-Connect and I got owned by an Elite, 2 to 15 every single game, I kept making excuses like its only cause your power-ups, ect, so we played with no power ups and he still owned me...

Instead of getting frustrated I started to watch how the Elites (online, not campaign) play, I got in one fight and the Elite and I reloaded our pistols about 7 times before hee shot me in the head and I left a grenade at his feet...BOOM. I realized that the way people move is one of the most important skills in the game.

1. Accuracy
2. Dodging Skills
3. Getting power ups
4. Covert Ops
5. Good Positioning

If I could make a list of five things that make an awesome Halo Player it would be these here is why:

1. Accuracy-
Online its kinda funny when you fight someone for about 3 seconds enough for them to get off the pistol bullets two in the body and one in the head... There is not much you can do when you only live for a few seconds.

(here's a tip I saw an Elite do to me, if you are versing an amazingly accurate pistol shooter after you get hit twice duck)

2. Dodging Skills-
Wow this is amazing, if your not the most accurate person then just don't get hit, buy yourself some more time that you need to get your head shots or turn the enemy into a christmas tree with plasma grenades. I noticed this online that when someone is running straight at you it is so easy to own them. The Elites immediately when fight starts (whether they know where you are or not) start moving back and forth, making you follow them with your wepon then when they switch directions you zoom right past them with your weapon. Some fights online would last for like 8 pistols reloads and 8 grenades, just because the people knew how to dodge... here is an obvious, if you do not die the other team does not get a point... you still got to realize all these people are extremely accurate too.

3.Getting Power Ups-
Holy Moly, its so funny when you are walking along in Wizard and you see an explosion and a camo fly towards someone whom you see for a few seconds before the pulse their assult rifle (makes you go inv. faster)... now how in the world do you do that... obvious answer throw it behind the pillar the power ups sit on... but it is not as easy as you would think...

Over Shields and Camos Rocket Launchers and Snipers are considered power ups... I was on Hang Em High and I see three explosions in about 10 seconds the Elite I was versing grabbed the inv. blew off the overshield that is on top... Ninja grabbed the Rocket Launcher (by jumping on the pillar next to it and jumping below it holding X)... grabbed the Overshield... Made his way up the ramp stood on top of the big base chucked his last grenade at the sniper Rifle and caught it!!!!!!

Here is why these things are important... woudl you rather fight and inv oversheild rocket launcher and sniper rifle or a guy with a pistol and no shields...

4. Covert Ops-
When you can not be seen you can't get shot... Blood gulch One v. One against an Elite...

I am running along and getting head shot every time I spawn or grab a power up.... I did not know where he was... Its an easy way to win... key to sniping One shot, One kill... No one sees you... Find dark places and High seldomly traveled places where you can see everything its great...

5. Good positioning-
This is all I am going to say is stay on high places, next to quick escapes incase you lose your shields, and next to power ups...
Some people call this newbie whe I am at a LAN party and I lose life or shields an run away come back with OVer Shield and Rockets and full life... But when you look at the score board in the end, lol, well when i only have one death on a 15 minute Odd Ball in Wizard versing 4 other poeple... they do not have much to say... though I must confess I put traits with the ball damage resistant and fast lol!!!!!!! Oh Well, one death is awesome...

So what do you think are the best tactics....

Well, as of now, accuracy and team work have been the top that everyone says are the most important. Though I would have to say I agree with the people that say team work is the most important, especially about being online and compensating for the lag, LAN parties usually do not have that problem, except KOH on prisoner when hill is bottom middle its just a sick thing with 16 people all of them throwing grendades and shooting AR, lol.

Accuracy, and Grenades are extremely pivitol (at least for me) in being a good Halo player, but I find that I'll do much better, if I'm on an overall better team, than if I'm on some crap team with TKers. so Teamwork is important, but not in the sense that you help your team ;) but don't just go totally solo commando because then you don't get help from your teammates.

But for me, when I play any game on Halo, I can shoot an enemy with a third of a mag from an AR, and throw a grenade (that they usually walk over), and kill them.

Hey Rob , you are partly right on tactics. Outsmarting ur enemy is a key factor in becomming a Halo "god" like me! (xbox). But, my usu. weapon assortment is the pistol and the sniper's rifle. You cant go wrong with the pistol b cuz "3 n the head, u kno theyre dead!" lol. The pistol is a 'must have' because of the ballistic tipped rnds. The sniper's rifle is good for long range stuff. Remember: most vehicles r death traps!!! ESPECIALLY THE TANK!!! All of the things u mentioned in ur poll were excellent skills u must have, but screen watching is a VIRTUE! Although many times my friends have requested that i not scrn watch, i have still won by a mile! Heck, I have even gone up against 3 ppl on a team against me and i won 15 to 3. To of my best Halo budds went up against me...needless to say, i won 50 to 35. But, the way to really become the BEST is to paly for 3 yrs against a verry hard person. In fact, one of my friends kept on beatin me over and over again for 3 yrs, but now i can whoop his butt! All in all, it just takes time. By the way, in a wide open area such as blood gultch, chucking 'nades is a skill. In narrow areas such as Longest, it sucks. I have also surprised my friends by tank-snipeng them from the hill b hind the red base to the back of the blue base. Telefragging is also fun!

It depends on wether your playin CO-OP or CAMPIAGN mode. For CO-OP, i'd say Team Work and for CAMPIAGN i'd say accuracy.

accurary is the main skill of an awesome halo player. Use pistol far away, if you dont kill him by then use something like a shotgun or assault rifle or maby even a grenade will do but a good halo player should be able to kill the person with just the pistol.

What are the most important skills (tactics) of an awesome halo player?

Every skill is needed to be good its a fact not just 1 or 5 ways of playing are going to save your scalp.Every last aspect, trait, attribute, tactic has to be mastered and if they are not, you will lose if you go into battle unprepared and not ready for a challenge your gonna die its simple any1 can be beaten just beat them be better, know them, master them not yourself thats too hard every halo game I play I run into new challenges and I beat them thats how you get better you cant really master your playing abilities because every game, round is different and any1 who says different is a stuck up assclown.

maybe after playing for so long you can master every aspect of your gaming ability thats not impossible but maybe some shooters cant or wont let themselves be taken by a game to a certain extent maybe their not natural shooters maybe their destined to die by my pistol who knows right, every1 is different every1 has different opinioins different ways of playing different ways of attacking different ways of losing maybe some lose to see how the enemy reacts who knows im goin on about nothin lol

ps I have mastered my halo skills to the extent where it gets boring and I cant kill anymore oh the blood the screams they haunt me...

I have no way to judge my skills via XBC, but in LAN parties out of 12 people I am usually in the top 4. The people I play with never play on XBC either, but they are hardened vets, playing since the game's release. I remember when I started playing Halo, the game had been out for a year and a half (back in the day when I wouldn't play X-Box just because Microsoft launched it) and my friends convinced me to play. Needless to say, I was slaughtered. It was brutality in it's purest form.

Now that I think back on it, here is what I KNOW I was doing wrong.
I walked straight Wow. That will do it everytime. If you run in one direction constantly, you are a dead man walking.
Standing still to aim This is a no brainer. I often found myself standing still when my pistol was scoped in, and it ended in my death every time.
Never utilized ducking and jumping This is one of those things I didn't do for a while. I underestimated how hard it was for someone to aim at you if you moved in a duck/jump manor. Don't always take jumps to the peak and keep the heights varied, followed by a crouch as soon as you land.
The Double Melee The double melee with stickies is just plain evil. 2 rapid melee strikes, and if that doesn't kill them (or the overshield is on) the sticky will do the job.
Learn your opponent Everyone I play is different. Whether they w hore all the powerups or vehicles, always go for certain weapons, places they hide, and just the general aptitude of your opponent.

Those are the things I didn't do then that I always do now. Experience is key.

Anyone can easily kill someone with a pistol, if you're good with it then that doesn't necessarily mean that you're a good Halo player. Whereas if you can easily out do people with lesser uneven weapons like the AR, then you're a good player, because that shows you can better utilize your surroundings and strategy to win, against a heavier equipped opponent. Note that this is my own personal opinion, I don't mean any offense to anyone.

I think accuracy would be first on my list, then dodging skills. Right now I'm really trying to get my accuracy up on Halo along with my dodging skills. I feel those two are really important(along with power ups) because if you at least have those 3 to worry about then you'll almost never get beaten. That's what I believe a good Halo player is at least.

The only problem about accuracy is if you play on a Comp, because then you have to compensate for the lag and pretend there's someone next to them at shoot there in order to hit the actual person. You get used to it, but there lies the problem, once you then play on Xbox you're skills are... well inaccurate.

It's not like you can have only a few good skills in Halo, like what everyone has been saying. But one thing that can create excellent teamwork is if, say one or two people are the best snipers do that, the best drivers do that the best close combatants do that, and so on and so on, so it all becomes a simply intertwined network of teamwork.

I'm certifiable.

You missed the most important skill for the player of any game or sport: sportsmanship. Simple courtesy, polite behaviour, gentlemanly conduct, or just the good sense that being an arrogant blow-hard or whiny sniveller makes the game less fun for everyone; call it what you will, but a LAN or Live game is MUCH BETTER with it than without it.

Oh, and you'll find that team work and positioning will both improve with sportsman-like conduct as folks will actually want to play with you. They'll want to share info, point out tips for improvement, or just share a laugh that loosens up play and improves reaction time. Sportsmanship calms you down that little bit necessary to make aim improve and helps with that little bit of extra patience you need to execute a successful stealth attack.

Be a sport. Have fun. Tru7h, Carnage, and the Bungie Way.

It works. Try it, and you'll see.

omg when we have lan parties (12 ppl most of the time), all of the player are like snipers and one of them and run and jump while snipe through a scope and he use the sniper for close range!! It's like super cheesy cuz you get killed by him all the time and you don't know what happened i you never get to know wehre he is, and when i get close to him, he just bam me with his sniper like 3 meters away!!

I would say accuracy and power-ups, there's nothin' better than smacking the crap out of the other players while your invisible.

Lesser uneven weapons like the AR? The AR is probably the most versitile weapon in the game. At medium distances, granted, it's not good to just open up. Controlled bursts! Anybody else notice that the longer you hold the trigger the more scattered your shots get? Hmm! Then, when you close in on your enemy, you have the advantage of having 60 shots into the gut at your disposal. I just got finished playing a multiplayer game with friends and my two weapons I used the most were AR and Pistol. Pistol for distance, then close in and use the AR. So, I guess knowing what is at your disposal is the best next to teamwork then accuracy.
