I agree, even H2's Desolation would be a welcome addition.
I'm still confused as to why Bungie limited the initial multiplayer maps to stages from the campaign.
The best Halo maps, in my opinion, were mostly the ones that didn't have a backstory forced upon them, or seemed out of place with the campaign:
Hang 'Em High, for example; how is an enclosed environment, with two very distinct bases, a trench, and cover in the form of TOMBSTONES supposed to fit into canon? It can't, it doesn't, and it's one of my favourite maps in any game.
Compare Sidewinder and H3's Avalanche; by making the bases large, Forerunner influenced fortresses and throwing stylised 'mancannons' into the map, the essence of Sidewinder was, I feel, ruined.
H2's masterful Lockout and H3's Blackout; Lockout was a floating map lodged into a mountain with no other purpose than to provide unparalleled gameplay. By trying to turn it into a facility that made sense, i.e an Oil Rig in Blackout, not only was the geometry of the map changed (for the worse, again, in my opinion)its nonsensical charm was lost.
I'm not saying every map Bungie has made that fits in with canon is awful (in fact, I loved Turf, Terminal, Headlong etc) but I do think that an increased focus on making maps that 'fit in' will result in a constriction of vision, and possibly a decline in FUN.

Kinda went offtopic there, but whatever...
