you're naut cookin'

If there actually is one.

There have been many threads about finding the Legendary Ending for Halo: Reach, most if not all of them have been in the Reach forums which seems to be entirely comprised of people trolling, so I thought I would throw this one out there to the intellects of the Bungie forums (blam modesty, amirite?).

Insofar it doesn't seem that anything has actually been found. There has been a quote by Brian Jarrard confirming a Legendary ending and mention of an Eagle landing on N6's helmet meaning we've found it. There have been multiple attempts by countless people to figure out what particular mystery switches do on certain levels (with quite a bit of success, check Halo Reach Planet.)

People (Sarsion for example) have finished the campaign on Mythic difficulty (Legendary with all skulls on) and people have found golden armoured Ranger-Elites called BoBs, but perhaps not all of them.

I'm sure that I'm not the only person to be intensely interested to know if there is a Legendary ending, and if so, what kind of delicious tidbits it holds for us down here in the Bungie Universe forum, so I suggest that this thread be used as a library of information relating to the Legendary Ending.

Here are some of the Easter Eggs that have been found, but that don't seem to have connection to the Legendary Ending.

Switches on 'The Package' unlocking 4 Banshees
The memorabilia room
The Siege of Madrigal easter egg
and of course the locations and transcripts* of the datapads
UPDATE: Reach Racer

If you hear of any rumours, please let us know through this thread.

*don't read into the capitalised letters in these transcripts, they spell out Halo Reach Planet.

UPDATE 1: Speculations

Vidmaster's Oath first brought up by Placid Platypus. (click the link to read the pledge). It's an old Marathon thing.
The implication is that in a playthrough:
- Press all the switches
- Kill all the Bobs
Others that can be speculated at:
- "Never use the Caps Lock as my run" = don't use armor abilities
- "Admit the existence of no level except total carnage" = only use grenades. Or perhaps no use of Small arms, or only allowed to use heavy weapons/grenades. Or only melee through the game.

Unreleased Legendary Ending
- A few things in the game are being released slowly. Gametypes, ranks and armor. Perhaps in time, determined by Bungie, we will find it. Perhaps we need to be the highest rank possible before we unlock the ending.

There is no Legendary ending
- It could be that there actually is no Legendary ending. Personally this doesn't at all seem like something Bungie would do, but others have their own mindsets.

Nice thread, theres also the easter egg Reach Racer, you can find it on youtube, and the master cheif ending on the last level, after you use the mac cannon and the cutscene appears, hold right and on the pillar of autumn the screen will move to show master chief on a cyro tube

Some can come away from reading "War and Peace" thinking it a simple adventure story, while others can read the ingredients on a gum wrapper and unlock the secrets of the universe.

I am confident there is one, as well as other Easter eggs we haven't fully discovered as of yet. Bungie clearly put a ton of effort into the game to insure all it's secrets couldn't be unlocked within a week of it's release.

Hey, now!

This is officially either the greatest or worst thing to ever happen to Star Wars. I'm going with the former.

Yep. I still think it has to do with those BOB's though...And there HAS been alot of Marathon references. Especially the BOB's, and the "See you Starside" after the thank-you in the credits. Classic Marathon line.

I noticed this too.

Possible hint?

- Where is the confirmation of completing the game on Mythic?
- BoBs seem to appear randomly, in different locations, and not all of them in a single level. I assume with such random placement they are not involved.
- Switches are unlocking easter eggs, I don't think they're involved
- Banshees are meant to discover something in the killzones on SWORD Base, I don't think they're involved
- Siege of Madrigal has only ever been an easter egg, safe to say it still is
- Datapads could be involved somehow, but I'm unsure.
- Memorabilia room is a tribute easter egg, that's all

All I can say is: I dunno.

This seems to me like the Secret of Sandtrap or the Glyphs in ODST. Bungie are just leading us on in order to generate interest in the game.

I highly doubt there is a legendary ending. Wouldn't it be called a "punch all switches and never leave a single BoB alive" ending? Either way, I assumed that modders peering through the game's files would have found this special ending by now (and ruined our fun). Apparently not.

I reckon IGN may have found it in i think there re opinion of halo reach they show a scene thats not in the game but near the end of it on bone yard it's a cutscene not machnima but it looks suspicious http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c0AyAxJNMfo 3:20

Reminds me of the hunt for the IWHBYD skull in Halo 3. We might just have to do something similarly convoluted and weird to attain the Legendary ending.

On Waypoint I'm rocketFox;

Old GTs; RebelRobot, Flamedude

What happens if you finish the game with a Gungnir helmet?? I'm just curious what the crack would look like on a helmet that doesn't have a visor.

One day... I am gonna grow wings... A chemical reaction... Hysterical and useless... hystecial and let down and hanging around... crushed like a bug in the ground.

Bungie has confirmed that there is a Legendary ending, so there has to be one.

Why the hell hasn't a hacker gone through and ruined our fun yet I do not know.

  • 10.04.2010 5:35 PM PDT

Core issued me a rifle not wings...

I wondered if beating it alone on legendary might do the trick but nope, nothing not even a "Good Job!"

  • 10.04.2010 6:00 PM PDT

its prolly something crazy like going through the entire game in legendary mode co op only with certain settings or something.

Maybe we need to get to the max rank first? Then beat it on Legendary while connected to live?

I lol'd at the absurd miscommunication that occurs whenever dibbs post something. Perhaps his brain is so highly evolved that he can no longer clearly communicate with lesser life forms, even among his own species.

It's elusive for a reason. Jumping through the rings in sequence to get the IWHBYD skull took people about a week to figure out (Bungie probably thought that would have taken months if not years; I mean who thinks of that!?!?!) In order to view this ending we are probably going to do something that requires a lot of thought - it certainly is not going to be easy or apparent.

One thing I did notice on Halo Reach Planet's pics of the hidden Elite Rangers on the post game score/stats screen that was interesting. A Star Wars quote is next to them in a little box, "Wipe them out...". The rest of the quote in the movie is "...all of them." Seems like killing all of them is important for something.

I'll have to ask the person I know who did it whether they're comfortable with me giving out their gamertag, as for the BoBs they are not random and you'll find them in certain locations.

Like he cares. He's already posted about it anyway.

Also, this "Confirmation"... Isn't that from before the game went gold? Back when things could be cut?

Could be right. I really don't think they've been all found yet, anyway.

I can understand somethings being cut, but cutting a video at the end? Seems entirely unneccessary.
Maybe they honestly forgot it.

Also; Sarsion completed the game on Mythic difficulty (impressive), so if you can be bothered, go through his game history.
Or just take my word.

If this was the case then I'm out. I'm definitely not getting 20 million cR.

Max rank will take a very, very long time.
