Subject: Halo 3 ODST was an underrated game.

I'm a 15 year old stuck in the middle of nowhere. Machinima director, screenplay writer, novelist, jazz musician, and Photoshop junkie.

I really enjoyed this game. It had a very different mood to it than it did the other previous Halo games, and it delivered a very neat experience. It showed me that the Spartans weren't the only ones making a difference.

But I really particularly enjoyed the atmosphere and the mood it set. Very well made game. This should have gotten more recognition. In fact, an ODST 2 would be a pretty neat thing for 343 to make.

Welcome to Thunderdome!!!!!!!

The exact same thing I thought.

youtube

disregard video games

The campaign was fun, but i personally dont think it was worth a full $60.

I haven't felt the urge to replay it like i have other Halo games.

Recon armor was not gifted or bestowed upon me. I earned it through blood, sweat, and tears. Road to Recon complete, on to the next challenge. Halo 3: 1750/1750, ODST: 1000/1000, Reach: 1400/1400.

I agree. I hope 343 does continue with a Halo Reach: ODST or something. The only problem I have is with the save system for champagin and the lack of matchmaking for Firefight. Other than that I think it's a stellar Halo game.

Yesssirrrr!

yeah I agree it was a great add on. Only problem was that there was no matchmaking but the campaign itself was awesome!

I know right?

In H1 through 3 the plasma sword meant something, now any Brute or Elite can 1 punch death you reguardless of shields, which makes the sword a prop in the hands of thick AI
Can no one beat the AI in FEAR & Bioshock 1..? you combine them you get the best AI ever

the lack of matchmaking was definatly a step back for me.. even in Reach 'classic' Firefight is friends only, new firefight should be called survivor, because you get blasted with each wave by drop ships (I hate that)

I thought ODST was a bit overrated myself. It was fun enough, but i think instead of actually being a legitimate game, it acted more as a primer to get away from Master Chief as a protagonist. making room for other games like Reach, and the others im sure that will follow. My problem is that although it acts like its so much different than halo 2, 3, and so on, its really just the same game, remarketed. you still have shields, you still have all the same weapons, you might as well be a spartan. the game just is shaded darker, but that doesnt really matter since you use the visr for 90 percent of the game. I played it. I enjoyed it. But it certainly wasnt worth 60 dollars. maybe for 30 i wouldnt be peeved. the whole thing seemed a little underwhelming. Look at the intro, or lack of one. to tell you the truth, it could have just been a firefight DLC with newly skinned characters.

Indeed thats true too many people hate on it not enough love

AFK: Away from Kontroller. Don't do it or you'll get the living crap smacked out of you by the Banhammer. If you disagree with any of this, you are just bad at Mortal Kombat.

Dudes, this game gets so much hate. Yes its debatable when it comes to content and price tag. However, look past that and you got a different kind of Halo on your hands (sans halo wars).

The story was actually pretty well done and i liked the multiple points of view from your squad mates, not to mention the noir based environment and a new direction with the music. Though I did read one review saying the jazz pieces are similar to those you hear on late night soft core -blam!-.

I could just imagine what ODST would look like with a new engine or with the one Reach is using. The rain effects would be uber and throw in some fog/lighting would increase the players immersion in the game's over world. Though they reused Halo 3's graphical assets, there are aesthetic/game play changes if you look hard enough.

Though the story was good, i think that was the problem with it. Placing it in between Halo 2 and Halo 3 limited the creativity they could do with the game. The live action trailer "We are ODST" they with screamed potential (for a movie too) and at i was expecting something like that. Perhaps its because of the limited budget and this was just an expansion wouldn't justify such a thing. However, i was satisfied with the game itself (plus all the multiplayer maps that i did not purchase was nice addition)

Overall, it is an underrated game, albeit addicting at times.

It was a good game but it's true that it's not worth 60 dollars
and Spartans are cooler cause they are BA

  • 10.06.2010 4:21 PM PDT

Best *expansion* ever

It was never meant to be a full game.

  • 10.06.2010 10:10 PM PDT

I paid 30 euro for ODST as I didn't feel it was worth 60 euro. I love the game however. It's definitely underrated.

Plekpedia - The most epic site in the history of ever.

I agree.

  • 10.07.2010 4:23 AM PDT

i thought it was overrated

  • 10.07.2010 10:13 PM PDT

agreed, more like an extra campaign, but the free matchmaking maps for halo 3 that it came with were awsome too

  • 10.08.2010 12:15 AM PDT

I am a monument to all your sins.

I completely agree.

  • 10.08.2010 6:53 AM PDT

I liked the game. I bought it when it was like 30 dollars like it is now and I think that was a fair price for the campaign and firefight.

  • 10.09.2010 2:07 PM PDT

Agreed. The fact that this game focused on another perspective other than Master Chief made it so much more interesting. I don't know about everyone else but I thought the audio files were a nice touch towards setting the story, as was the graffiti on the walls in New Mombasa's streets on the Rookie levels. And of course firefight and the second disk was a pretty nice addition. In all honesty I hated this game at first but grew to love it. Definitely underrated, probably because people compare it too much to Halo 3.

I love Halo 3 ODST!Is it perfect? No. But to me they didn't make the perfect game yet. I knew this wasn't supposed to be a Halo 4, it was supposed to be an Halo 3 expansion. Plus i love wondering around in New Mombasa at night. They could make a more detailed city but since they only had 1 year to make the game...

ODST only took one year? Damn, a sequal shouldn't be too hard then.
