Normal, because that is...normal. It is the average difficulty, so you still get the story, with some challenge. Ledgendary is going to be MUCH harder as all of the AI is revamped.

for people who say "I'll play legendary to make the game last longer" you're stupid, if you play legendary, you will beat it (eventually) then have no more single player fun because you've done it already (x10). If you start on easy like me (I'm not a noob, I'm probably better than half of you) then you can play it again on normal and have new challenges that you dint notice before, then the same with heroic, and eventually you work your way up to legendary, and have all new challenges and fun. thus making the sp last longer

You have to start on Normal or Heroic first. You don't get the full effect of the story if you play on Legendary, because you're spending too many neurons on not getting killed. And besides,if you beat the whole game on Legendary in the first go, then what're you going to do when you're all alone and given the choice between doing a research paper and procrastinating in the middle of the night?

I think Heroic's actually the most satisfying gameplay. Everything lower is too easy and Legendary is just too much work.

Heroic. I just don't have the patience to spend several hours a level on Legendary. Hey, stop laughing!

I want to absorb the story as quickly as possible, without ruining the gaming experiance.

Legendary all the way.

Heres why:
A. The campaign lasts longer (how many times do you get to play Halo 2s campaign mode, and not know the story at all? ONCE!) For those of you who claim that it is hard to absorb the story when you are trying to not get killed... have you ever heard of cutscenes? Its not like Cortana is reading you "Halo 2, the novel" as you are playing.

B. Harder = more challenge = more fun = better at multiplayer when its done

C. Characters say more/funnier things on legendary

D. Bragging rights

  • 08.12.2004 8:44 PM PDT

I just don't see how anyone can honestly say they'll play the game on legendary first round through.

One, the game is gonna be much harder this time due to the enhanced AI the enemies will have.

Two, unknown elements in the game will complicate strategies and totally ruin them most of the time.

Three, the levels can take so much time to beat and are in certain areas so frustrating that storyline elements in the game will be forgotten or ignored.

Overall I think the best gaming experience for the veteran Halo player will be Heroic...that challange we love without ruining the storyline elements in the game...which we all know are going to be amazing.

To those who are considering easy...eh, dont. Easy is just tooooooooo easy. I edited this for spelling.

The best time I have ever had on halo (besides multiplayer) was in the difficulty of Legendary, and I don't think it will matter a whole hell of a lot if you have not gone through the level on a easier difficulty you would just know where the enemies are and the layout of the land, which you will find out just as well in Legendary. It just takes patients but as I said, it was the best time I have had in Halo SP.

I'll be lucky if I'm half as good as I was when I first did that though lol.

All you people who say legendary- You are overestimating your abilities. I highly doubt you will be able to play the whole game through, first time, on legendary. The AI has had a revamp, you won't know the levels, and you will lose out because you will spend so much time dying that you will not experience all of the new things that Bungie have put in the game.
I will play on heroric, or its equivalent, first. I will not try and just rush throught the levels however, just to come on here and say 'Oh that 1st level was well easy, i did it in ten minutes, I will pwn you!' I will take some time to enjoy the experience, fight alongside my marines, look at the new graphics and lighting effects, be awed by the game, enjoy the story. Only when I have seen everything that the game has to offer on the lower difficulties, only then will I try to crack the game on the hardest one.

I would have to say that legendary is something you first experience with a buddy, when you have both completed it on heroic or somesuch.

Seriously. You think we are overestimating? I have done some of the levels one SP Legendary without having to revert. And I have completed legendary waaaaay too many times.

You should give yourself some humility, you can do that because you know those levels better then the back of your hand : ). Patients is what it will take, if your not a pro you would be soon lol. The A.I will be different too, you won't be able to follow an Elites movement with your eyes closed anymore (I hope).

Opinions are like arseholes - everybody has one.

Knowledge is knowing Tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad.

There is no such thing as a bad decision, only good decisions based on flawed information.

I'll start off on easy to learn all the new features and enjoy the story without worrying about getting my arse spanked cherry red. After that i'll work my way up the difficulties before heading over to live multiplayer. Actually, i read somewhere that a super easy mode was being added but i think i'll steer clear of that. It'll probably take one needler round to kill a grunt or something!
