I logged on to Bungie.net today to find a new image on the right side of the screen advertising jobs for Bungie. I looked at it and thought that it was great, and I wondered what else the frontpage could look like. I noticed that the center column (news) was kept up to date and looked nice, but the other two “columns” looked like they could be improved. Here’s my idea of what it could look like.

Right Column:
* Most Popular Thread box: I like the box, and I’d like to see it be fixed. I think that it would be very helpful to have because it’ll give members a chance to hop in on the most active topic without having to spend much time in the forums.
* Bungie Store: Obviously there for advertising reasons, it would be nice (and maybe beneficial to Bungie, if inside that box, there was a link to the “Most Popular Item” which would be similar to the link in the Forum box.
* Jobs icon: I really like this icon, because it’s creative, fits well with the site, and serves a purpose. If there are to be many more icons on the right column, this icon might need to be shorter or smaller. It’s bigger than the others.
* Seventh Column Page: If this site ever becomes active and updated frequently with breaking news about the community, then an icon leading to the column’s main page would be helpful.

Left Column:
Current Projects
Halo 2
* Screenshots
* Gallery
* Audio/Video
* Wallpapers * FAQ/info
Halo PC:
* Screenshots
* Gallery
* Audio/Video
* Wallpapers
* Guides
* FAQ/info
Halo Xbox:
* Screenshots
* Gallery
* Audio/Video
* Wallpapers
* Guides
* FAQ/info
Older Projects:
Oni
Myth
Marathon
Classics

Now, if you would, please imagine what I just listed on the front page of the site. Well you don’t have to, I made an image showing you what it would look like. Check it out:

Of course, I’m not crazy enough to change text of the left column titles, so it can only serve as a visual guide to how far down the page it’ll go. Also, the I used the site’s avatar for a visual representation on the right side, and since it’s a lot smaller, it looks sort of pixilated.

Anyway, what do you guys think?

That would definitely change the way this site is run. The left column is mostly made up of what you said in the toolbar's games > more section. The right column is perfect just the way it is, and could be changed when needed.

In my opinion, I don't think the site needs to be changed that much.

It would change the how the site would look, yes. That's part of what we're looking at: if it looks good or not.

Yeah, I understand that a lot of those links can be found elsewhere on the site, but then again, a lot of links can be found on multiple places on the site. For example, I can get to the septagon using the "Forums" box on the right, or using the "Community" section of the bottom nav bar, and I'm sure that there are lots of different ways.

I'm interested in what you think would be something that could be changed or modified (not trying to sound deffensive or agressive - I'm just interested in other thoughts)

What do you think about the subtle change I made to the Bungie Store box?

Alright, I can see that. I'm just exploring ideas. Thanks for the input!

Only the paranoid will survive!

I have often wished there was a link to Marathon or Myth stuff on the left. I totally agree. However, while they're at it, why not accept some fan pages to give more information on the games? That would be optional though. I love your idea however.

I just realized this, but it would be more likely that Current Projects would only include the new project and Halo 2 (thus having only 2 extended current projects instead of three) This would make the left column shorter.

It looks like the "Most Popular Thread" will be here sooner than Soon™, it'll be here tomorrow.

I imagine most of you haven't read this yet. Yeah, reading the news is important.

You remember as to how they made the jobs picture? If they needed something else (no idea as to what) they could add that to the right side. Maybe something else they need for the studios.

Too subtle, I can't see that anything's changed.

Oh right. I forgot to actually change it. You have to just think about what it would be like if there was a link there.

Phrog pilots, reckless and free. We would strap into our birds, set the engines on fire, and leave these earthly bonds with a chorus of WHOP WHOP WHOP. Akin to beating your chest and howling in defiance at the rest of the world.

I like it, I just would hate for the front page to become too cluttered.

I think having links so easily accessible contributes good and bad aspects. For instance, let's say someone wants a screenshot; they come to Bungie.net, click on Bungie game screenshots, get their quick fix and leave.
On the other hand, without front page links they have to dig around a little for their screenshot, immersing them in the website and subjecting them to more of bungie.net. It initiates the unfamiliar with information they would never have known about, sucking them in.

Each time someone new comes to Bungie.net and realizes that there is more to the studio than just Halo, Bungie takes one step closer to world domination and the community becomes stronger.
