Why does everybody hate campers? Could it be because you rush through the game, and for all your talk of being strategic or quick with the weapons, they still get you? I understand that it is a game, but campers would have many less kills in the past three years if you would slow down and think. Blood Gulch bases? I still get my ass handed to me on a regular basis by that n**b with a shotgun! You know why? BECAUSE I'M RUSHING! If I'd slow down and think, I'd probably never die from a camper, I'd get them every time. Halo is great because you can't slow down most of the time, you can't tell your XBC teammates to not kill anyone until you get the flag, so there's usually somebody spawning right on top of you. That's why it's fun for everybody.
"Camping" is an essential part of military strategy. You find a good position and you dig in. On top of a hill, at the end of a dark alley or hallway, on top of a building and snipe, etc.... Any game where you can die from someone else is a game that is based on killing them first! That's it!!!! A fortified position is key to winning a battle. This doesn't come across well on video games because people are in a hurry.
Probably one thing I like/dislike the most about Halo are camping snipers. On one side; if you're sniping, you're easy to find if you miss. On the other; they have to move because of the bullet trail that's left behind....that big long white "shoot here" sign.
So, flame me if you will, I never camp, but I'll never understand why people complain about strategy in a game that strategy wins. I just respawn and go kill him.

well, at me and friend's lan parties, campers rarely do well. usually, they get about 3-4 kills and then get killed themselves, and noone can camp in that spot again as everyone's watching it to see if they go back there.

Actually, I found spots where no one can find me. I can imagine camping with a sniper, but with a pistol or something else, it sucks. If you have a short range weapon use it. If you have a long range weapon, use it in the dark so no one can find you.

bah

I like to find new spots from which to snipe. I'll stay there for a minute then move on. I'll go back to the spot again and again, but I don't stay for long. If you stay for too long, then your enemy knows you're not moving, and they'll find you. That's when I'm in the mood to not die though.

haha i absolutely love it when people camp...they are so much easier to kill...like today, i was playin, and there was one person that camped and fired off about for rounds with the SR, leaving a nice pretty trail of smoke...i just took my SR and shot him...oh yes, i never had to zoom in...it was sweet..needless to say campers are funny cause they get 2 kills and then they die and then everyone hates them and kills them...i dont think that they have quite as much skill...besides, doesnt it take skill to be able to shoot someone and move on to another place and still be able to kill them just as well...it takes no skill to just sit around and wait for someone to walk in your cross hairs...

yeah man i hear ya....i HATE it when ppl r like u stupid camper! or u banshee n00b! or u spawn killer! hey its a game based on killing (lol that sounds really bad) and if ur gonna get killed 1st if u DONT do that stuff, then i say do it! also, the hiding places, vehicles, and powerful weapons r there for a REASON! so while it might seem like u have less skill when u take advantage of that, it obviously proves ur a lot smarter. also, i actually find sniping just as "cheap" as the other ones...also if u keep getting killed w/ vehicles, practice on them...go to an all vehicles game and never get in a vehicle, i kill them all the time. once i took down 3 shees and a tank w/out dying w/ an AR and pistol, and i only used one frag nade, and that was on the tank...lol that was so cool...but the point is...dont COMPLAIN about tactics! if ur gettin killed change your OWN tactics...ok im done

whoops forgot this was the halo xbox forum, sry guess u cant join an all vehicles game, but the point is still the same (i play on pc, but most of the pc forums are just a bunch of whining)

In my opinion, there is three types of Sniper Camping.

There is:
Search Camping
This is where a player stands in a place for a long period of time, searching for enemies to take out. When he/she finds one, he/she carries on standing still and fires a full clip in that direction. This type is probably the least ineffective as the search camper is quite easily taken out by numerous methods (melee from nearby enemy, counter-sniping and general combat). This tactic is a very bad idea as you are left vunerable as you search.

Split-second Camping
This is where the player is quite frantic in his/her actions and will constantly run and go in and out of zoom. Doing this means the player can search off in the distance whilst still covering his/her ass from up close and personal characters. When he/she finds a distant target, he/she will stop for a second to assure the shot will hit; then after the kill will continue moving. This tactic is very effective because the player continues to move, except for that split-second pause to assure the kill

'On the Prowl' Camping
This is where a player stands in a comfortable shady spot where it is difficult to be spotted from out in the battlefield. The player is always wary when to fire his round and usually waits for lonesome enemies looking in a different direction. Doing this can assure the player won't be spotted for his sniper trail and taken out later on by the returning enemy or his team mates. This tactic usually deploys a "Where the f**k did that come from?" response. This tactic is good as long as it is pulled off well; poor decisions will lead to getting spotted. Careful when using.

I think that Search Camping is worst whilst Split-second and 'On the Prowl' are considered OK.

The last time I played, there was a really really bad Search Camper.

When playing a 4 vs 4 Team Slayer (teams in different rooms) in Sidewinder I saw the player camping out on one of the Rocket Launcher hills. I was on the other Rocket Launcher Hill and sent a carefully aimed (hit him, not a wall behind him) rocket his way. I then ran to the next room to snuck inside (the players there mesmorised by playing Halo). As soon as I got in the room I managed to catch the unmistakable sight of a Rocket coming towards 'me' on my oppenants screen. BOOM! He shouted "Who the hell was that!?!" followed after looking at the screen "Damn you Jason". I then said "It's not my fault that you're such an easy target" and went back to my room.

I returned to my player, who hadden't been killed mind you. I think it had something to do with cramming my MC in a corner after launching the rocket. :)

lol. i did something like that too. i was in blood gulch and i wlaked up behind a search camper and just stood there, not on his motion tracker (because i wasnt moving) for about 2 mins, then i saw him aiming so i hit him in the back.

any sniper is easy to kill as long as you think,we all know the main sniper places in the maps. in BG its right around the teleporters. it still doesnt take as much skill to run around a kill with a SR either. i use the sniper alot, but i always feel cheap as im useing it. but because im walways playing with N00Bs it doesnt matter. im gonna win anyway, might as well win quickly.

P.S. if you are good with a pistol, snipers are no threat.
